Steak Shack

Steak Shack is a small beach stand at the back of the Outrigger Waikiki Reef hotel. They offer plates that come with organic greens and rice and a protein option (steak and/or chicken). When I had visited they were out of chicken. There is usually a line about 10 to 15 people deep, and once you order it takes another 15 to 25 minutes for your order to be prepared.Steak plate (14 oz) - $23 - I asked for my steak to be prepared medium rare and when my order was finally ready it had a nice peppery flavor to it. They provide some soy sauce on the side to elevate the flavors. I also told them to skip the rice, so they were happy to substitute the rice with more greens. For my greens I went with an Italian dressing, although they also have thousand island.Overall I was impressed with the quality of food here. Pricing for the other steak plates are as follows: 6oz ($13), 10 oz ($18), 12 oz ($20), 14 oz ($23). 6 oz of a chicken plate is $12 and they also offer a steak and chicken combo for $17.

(Last visited 12/18/2022.) It's our last night in Hawaii and NUMEROUS people were telling us that we had to hit Steak Shack. So we did... here's how it went...Atmosphere/Appearance: Located right in Waikiki on the bay is this gem. It's literally a shack with no available seating inside. You walk up, you order, they call your name, you pick it up.Service: See above. Lol.Food: The menu is VERY SIMPLE. All they sell is steak or chicken. Each protein comes with rice and a salad, but you can get different sizes as well as a protein combo. However, on the night we went, they were sold out of chicken. C'MON MAN. Steak it is, but I wanted to try both. Whatever, so we opted for the 12 oz. portion of steak cooked medium rare. We waited 40 minutes and... FANTASTIC. The steak didn't shine on it's own, but with that glaze... LAWD. Super delicious and with the rice along with the salad, this whole portion was so filling.Value: Less than $20.00 to get full on some quality food. Period.In conclusion, if you're looking for something quick... eh, I wouldn't say come here given the amount of time we waited. However, if you're not in a rush, but want to dine outside, not feel the pressure of tipping people and just wanna chill, maybe sip on some of your own beverages while you chill on the beach. THIS is the place you wanna hit up. It'll be worth it.

I stopped here for dinner based on the great reviews. The line was pretty long, I probably waited 20 minutes to order. I ordered the steak with salad as a side. The "salad" is just raw spinach with the salad dressing of your choice on the side.The entrees are cooked to order and come out fast after you place your order. My steak was mediocre, it was a bit tough and overhyped.Overall this meal was just okay.

Simple. Delicious. Consistent. Best bang for your buck in Waikiki. The wife called and asked "Hey, husky husband who loves food, where should I take the kids to eat while in Waikiki?" Easy answer: Steak Shack. They missed the chicken combo since they were sold out, but still a hit. Plus, I retained my status of being "that guy" when it comes to food.

Ordered the 6oz signature steak plate with the steak prepared medium rare. The steak was cooked medium rare and in a delicious peppery-seasoning. Overall, the plate is simple in that there is salad with the choice of your preferred salad dressing (Italian, ranch, thousand island), rice, and steak. It also comes with a side of a sweet and savory soy sauce based sauce that pairs well with the steak. Around 6pm on a Sunday, there was a line but it moved pretty quick, and then about 10 minutes before the food was ready. There are some tables and bar stands to eat the food, or you can enjoy it on the beach!

Quick, simple, and yummy! This is a great place to get a meal on the beach. Their menu is simple with only 2 options (beef or chicken) and comes with salad and rice. Don't be discouraged by the long line in front, as it moves fast and orders come out quick.

I did not expect to love Steak Shack as much as I did. Ordered the steak plate for my husband and the chicken plate for me. Everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned well. Plates come with salad, rice, and your choice of steak or chicken only. They have different sizes of the steak plate. Plus the staff is really nice, and they don't charge a fortune. Totally yummy lunch on a perfect beach day.

For fast food this place is flavorful, quick and easy. It's hard to believe this place can service the crowd it draws. If you peek into the space the staff effectively gathers the orders and serves out a small window. Plenty of outdoor seating or nearby lawn and beach. I'll be back.

I had the steak and chicken combo. The food quantity is on target for the price and I do think the price is reasonable - especially for the area it is in. The sauce for the steak is makes the flavor for me. If I had to critique anything I would say the rice. They must have changed the type of rice or way they cook it because it used to be sticky and now it is very loose. Since I have experienced this establishment over several years I offer this: when the food was done the old owner/chef used to provide you with a folk and knife wrapped in a couple of napkins ... now it is a few forks in a container for you to grab and go - no napkins, no knives (at least these past two check-ins). So just an observation... the food is still tasty and priced well. Worth the wait

Have heard a lot about this place so I was excited to try. We went about 5ish and there was a line, but luckily the wait wasn't too bad. I got the combo plate which included chicken, steak, salad, and rice. First off, I was blown away by the great prices! Especially since it is in Waikiki where food is so expensive. Here, you can get a good meal for under $20 which is a steal in my book.I was also surprised that the steak and chicken were both really good quality. Although I had one grisly piece of steak I couldn't chew, all the other pieces of steak and chicken were tender. The main down fall the meat (both chicken and steak) is incredibly peppery. So, if you don't like black pepper, i wouldn't come here. Luckily, the teriyaki-type sauce they give you on the side helped add much needed sweetness to the plate.Overall though, if you are in the area and hungry, this is a solid and affordable place to grab lunch to eat on the beach or take back to your hotel.
