Growing up Catholic is a unique experience.I'm not going to preach to you because I believe that religion is a personal choice. I can't quote any Bible Verses because that's not what I was taught. For twelve years of Catholic School, my three sisters and I wore a school uniform every day except for Fridays during Senior Year of High School. During that time, we took Religion classes and attended mass on campus whenever there was a special occasion. In first grade, I made a friend who has kept in touch with me throughout the decades. She actually saved my soul...Yes, for a few years, I didn't live the Catholic life. We're supposed to attend mass every Sunday and receive Holy Communion. At mass, we sit, stand, bow, and kneel at designated times. It's quite ritualistic and comforting at the same time. For me, it's a familiar routine that brings inner peace in times of strife.Anyway - St. Pius X Catholic Church is special for my friend because she was baptized and married here. When she was about to baptize her daughter, she sent me a photo of her baby with a caption, "Will you be my Godmother"?Wow...I had to ponder the answer and research the duties of a Catholic Godparent. Long story short, I agreed to this responsibility and returned to the Catholic Church. The baptism was a beautiful ceremony which has a special meaning in my life. The years passed and I found myself returning to this simple building in Manoa Valley. It's an open-air, traditional environment. We attended 8:30am mass to celebrate the life of my friend's mom on the one-year anniversary of her passing. You see? The church is always there for us... Throughout the Life Cycle, we commemorate the milestones of life. From birth to death... Confirmation, Anointing of the Sick, and Holy Orders... All of the Sacraments are still Gifts that are available for all.Mahalo to St. Pius X Catholic Church... You hold a special place in my heart and soul!

Saint Pius X Church is the sister church to Sacred Heart Church. It is located in beautiful Manoa Valley. Unlike it's sister church, it does not have the stain glass windows. The church has a simple decor, but is classy and elegant. The ceiling is made of wood which offsets the white walls. Although this church does not have any air conditioning, it has many ceiling fans and the layout is a very open structure. When I come to this church, it has a very peaceful and calming affect on me. Father Gordy is also the pastor here and he is amazing! Father Tom is really funny and tells a lot of interesting stories. Love this church!

I absolutely love this parish. I love how easy it is to walk to and from mass if you're in the valley. The priests always deliver a great message that relates to the readings for the week. My only issue is that there is only one mass time on Sunday 8:30 am. Overall, if you're a Catholic in the Manoa area and don't like large parishes with crowds of people and want a simple quiet place where you can worship Christ, this is the parish for you!

I've been here a few times for a variety of reasons. Our faculty comes here for mass at times, our students come here for special activities, and I've also been here for parties! So - the place is versatile - from a somber prayer service to a wild teen social experience - I've been there through it all. I think the best activity I've attended here was first birthday parties for my co-worker's sons. She's a great party planner, so that goes without saying - the activites and the food is always wonderful, but the way she transforms the room is just incredible. The decor, the table arrangements - she makes very good use of all the space, and still ensures room for her guests to mingle. I've asked her for pictures of the set up - so I could post them to share -but I never got them from her yet. St. Pius X is a nice little space for worship, meeting/conferences, and even a PARTY!
