My only complaint, and it's such a small one, is that the selection of books is limited, and the organization leaves much to be desired. However, in true bibliophile fashion, I still left with a couple books. Now the positives, I thought the decor was really hip, and the design feels very welcoming and comfortable. The workers were extremely friendly and conversational. The books are in great condition, offering really nice editions to classic books . My Frankenstein novel is beautiful, and has gold lining the pages, and came with a notebook with the same gorgeous cover. A great deal, if you ask me.They also have a good collection of vinyls that'd easily help build our library of music at home, and overall I wouldn't mind coming back here to do that; but I also wouldn't mind more.

Absolutely love the vibe in this place. Had to make a little bit of a walk but with the help of the maps app I was able to find it! This is definitely my kind of shop. With bookstores being rare on island these days besides B&N this place is a treasure. They had a good selection of books for everyone and I had fun looking at the mangas and vinyls that they had on display. The shop is actually really big LOL I had a blast walking around and taking in all the visual stimuli of all the books and knick knacks. Definitely one of my places that you must visit if you are in Downtown. Whenever I'm in the area best believe you'll find me here.

Truly excellent book and vinyl shop in Honolulu! I love the vibes as well as the mix of new and used books. The shelves are so well curated that it took a lot of restraint to not buy a huge stack of books! Staff are friendly and helpful, and there's a restroom in the back. 10/10, no notes.

Can you have an oasis inside an oasis? Immaculately clean, organized, and beautifully curated... this place brought me back to the days of browsing my fav local record/bookstore as a teenager with a fistful of hard earned sweaty bills... but this time I had grownup money and the knowledge of how rare a gem like Skull-face really is. The walls plastered with relics of the glory days of punk rock and thrash, it presents as more of a museum than a store. Owned by the same person that is responsible for The Last Bookstore in LA, it all makes sense. Make this a destination stop when you go to the islands. Skull-face is an absolute music obsessed bibliophiles dream!

Fantastic bookstore! There was an amazingly diverse selection that fit in with the murder-mystery, fantasy-adventure theme of the store. There were also, surprisingly, a lot of newly released titles. The prices were fair and (this may be just a me thing) I loved that the staff didn't bother me at all and let everyone kind of do their own thing. I'm not very social and I hate when staff at other bookstores come up and ask me what I'm looking for and what I'm interested in. I know they're just doing their jobs but I get so uncomfortable Anyway, couldn't recommend this store enough and please support local bookstores!!

Best place to buy and sell popular books in town. Trade in is fair to low, but higher than say Book-off for example. Would rather trade in at a local shop anyways. The stock changes often so it's fun to go in and peruse the stacks.

Book stores are magic places. Everything inside transports you to another place and time. Skull-Face Books & Vinyl quietly opened in the Chinatown area of Honolulu in Mark's Garage on the Bethel Street side of the building. It's in close proximity to awesome venues like The Arts, Hawaii Theatre, J. Dolan's, The Lei Stand, etc.; basically this is an easy addition to any evening out in that area. It's the same owner as The Last Bookstore in L.A. and has a vibe not seen before here. "The best in deep, dark, weird, or hard books, music, and film." Beyond that, there is truly something for every age and interest. The store is open with high ceilings and bright lighting, and arranged artfully yet organized. There is even a welcoming couch, I would assume to take a load off and peruse some books. The comical section names are worth discovering for yourself. As an avid Tolkien and Star Wars fan, I was delighted to see such wide selections of both. Make sure to check out sub-sections in other areas too, like your favorite pop culture in the arts or music sections. This is an independent store and they sell both new and used items. They also buy used media, check out the store for more information. They have books, DVDs, CDs, vinyl records. One area also has shelves of complete boxed sets of book series, which make great gifts. The store really feels like a pop culture museum as well, with art everywhere. It's the kind of place you could spend hours in if you have the time. Most things are cover priced, but some are priced differently depending on age and condition. I'm so thankful to have a book store like this in town again and look forward to dropping in often. The clerk was friendly and welcoming to talk about the store; don't feel embarrassed to explore without buying something right away. Explore the world, read.

My friend had told me about Skull-Face, and after she had, I knew I had to see it for myself. This store is like heaven on Earth for anyone interested in horror, music, or art. Since I am interested in all three, it's suffice to say I fell in love with this store. Unfortunately, because of other plans I had that day, I could not explore this treasure trove to the extent that I wanted to, but I still came out with 2 books, one dvd, and an awesome bookmark. The owner of this store is very friendly, helpful, and informative. It seems like he knows about almost every book they have there! Everything is reasonably priced, and there's even some secondhand items if you're looking for even more of a deal! I'll definitely be coming back here again soon!

Skull-Face Books & Vinyl is more than a mere bookstore...rather this is a celebration of oddities, the rare, hard to find, macabre, funny, bizarre, punk rock meets art-house books and vinyl. The shop is an Instagram treasure trove of vignettes...a pantheon of sci-if movie posters, hipster books, horror images, scantily clad mannequins in gold lamé hot pants, skull laden tapestries hanging from the ceiling while an eclectic selection of music plays over the house sound system. Skull-Face could almost be an event venue. This is a browser's bookstore with soft furniture for spending some time. After leaving the store I ran into friends and suggested they check it out. They were blown away. There's precious-little vinyl options in HNL and Skull-Face has a great selection. Please support this tremendous local shop...there's an amazing urban-awakening happening in Chinatown right now and it's something special. We need to make sure it's sustained!

Great bookstore and vibe. Small store but great selection for its size. Also has a record collection to buy from. Owner is great guy, very chill. Nice soundtrack to browse to.
