Sing Cheong Yuan Bakery

There is always a line at this bakery. They have an assortment of dim sum and Chinese pastries and baked goods along with dried fruits and confectionary. I like trying new things so this time around I ordered their peanut sesame candy, rice cake, butter mochi, Jung with green bean and with black bean. I actually froze the Jung to bring home! It was such a success that I will do it on every trip going forward. Casual. Street parking. Please come and create your own adventure.

Came back like I said I would! I think I waited in an even longer line this time around which shows the popularity of this bakery. Chasu bao was still fresh and delicious! Shrimp dumplings were good! Wasn't a huge fan of the mochi shu mai but great food all around!

CHAR SIU FOR THE MANAPUA AND MAI TAI SU IS ... IN MY OPINION MUCH BETTER. The last time I was here the char siu was too sweet for me but this time it was just right. Both the baked bao and the steamed bao were excellent as well as the pork hash and the half moon. If you like something a little sweet go for their rice cake. It was really big and delicious. Service was friendly and efficient.

Food is always hot and fresh. Staff are very efficient, and theres always a line to get. I recommend calling in your order if you can. Otherwise food is good, love that their pork hash is quite big! Only downside is parking is kinda tough in chinatown.

We went here twice on our trip. According to the locals, this is the place to come to for great baked goods. The standouts here were the custard egg tarts and the custard bun. I would skip the bbq pork buns. There was too much fat on the meat inside. Line is shorter on the weekdays. Weekends, the line is long. Anything under $10 is cash only. Credit cards can only be used after you buy over $10+.This is a buy and go situation with nowhere to sit. We grabbed our items and ate it back at the hotel.

. Pork Hash - excellent taste and size. Manapua Curry Cha Siu Bao - good, but low portion of meat to bao. Bao dough just okay. Ha Gow - excellent taste and size. Cha Siu Su - good. Baked Cha Siu Bao - goodReason for 3* instead of 4*:. A Half Moon had kitchen string in it!! Also the texture of the meat is oddly shredded; not my favorite

They say there's always a line...there sure was when we came by. But it's good to check out the menu and see what others order while in line or send your significant other to do some shopping. The buns/manapua, dim sum were all large. Tried a variety and some jung. All good and fresh. Wanted some mini mooncakes but they were sold out. Guess that's the excuse for coming back.

A little bakery/delicacy located on Maunakea Street next to the former Nam Fong. You can almost always find a line of customers waiting to get in to get their goods, sometimes I feel like I'm being pushed in the line! Once in to the establishment, you bill find an assortment of crack seeds, Chinese dried candy, gummi candy, shrimp chips (yummy)! And a glass case of their localicious dim sum, Manapua, pork hash, half noon, Chinese mochi, gin dui, jung, taro cake, rice cake and much more! So many goodness. I prefer the steam Manapua over the baked one, but that's my preference. Good tasting manapuas are hard to find these days after the closure of char hung sit. Support small local business!

TLDR:After doing my research on bakeries, it sounded like I needed to come here to try their baked pork buns. The hype was real and I'm so glad that I also picked up a few other treats to try. Cash only unless you buy more than $10. Highly recommend the baked char siu buns and the char siu pastry. ------FOOD:1. Char Siu Pastry / Sou (5/5): This was my favorite item. I loved the sou pastry of this -- it was perfectly buttery, flakey, but also very robust without being too thick. Paired with the char siu inside, this was just a slightly more fun and satisfying version of their famous char siu bun. 2. Char Siu Bun (5/5): Somehow these buns were given to us very warm like they had just come out of the oven. The airy bun was baked to perfection, and the char shao inside was delicious and packed with flavor. 3. Coconut and Peanut Mochi (4.5/5): A great palm-size piece of mochi. Really soft, delicious mochi on the outside with a unique coconut and peanut filling. Wish there was more peanut flavor in this and slightly less coconut, but overall I'm so glad the lady at the counter recommended it.4. Egg Tart (4/5): The crust was a little thin / soft so the tart felt quite delicate. Not the best egg tart I've ever had but not bad.------SERVICE / ENVIRONMENT:* Take out only spot with limited space inside to stand, so expect to queue a bit outside of the store during busy periods* Not many places to eat while everything is still fresh. There's a park nearby that you could eat in, or you can grab lunch at a nearby sit-down restaurant and enjoy your goods with whatever food you order there

Eight years later, I still love love love the food. The manapua, siumai, half moon....oh heck, EVERYTHING, is STILL exceptional. The charsiu-su is the flakiest, most flavorful, and no shortage of filling, baked good there is. Shrimp chips are so fresh. Still a very wide selection of seeds.There are several ladies taking orders with pay counters at both ends of the display case.My issue is with the amount of customers allowed inside. They used to only allow 2 people in at a time. At one point, there were 10 people INSIDE, making it very difficult for those that paid, to get out. Also, there should be a system for phone order pickups. Customers are so rude by pushing their way in and shouting to anyone who would listen, they need their order. I got shoved to the corner and couldn't even complete my order. Trying to make my way to the counter was extremely challenging. Customers would also reach past my face and point at things while shouting in Chinese. No manners. Luckily, Doordash delivers.
