Shima Dreams of Noodles is a pop-up, located at Fishcake -This place supposedly has a huge following, and people anticipate for the changing menu of various noodle dishes. When we went, the menu focused on udon:+Hot Yamakake Udon with Quail Egg (a special)+Cold Yamakake Udon (a special)+Hot Udon+Cold UdonThe special udon dishes are servied with tororo (grated mountain yam), housemade tsukudani (seaweed braised in a sweet Japanese sauce), crispy nori, green onions, and an option to add wasabi. We went for both the hot and cold udon specials - I think it was a consensus that we would have liked to have more noodles in the dish. This is definitely a sweeter dish, with the tororo and the tsukudani. The place already had a long line, and the best way to enjoy would be to dine-in.Note that if you do order a carry-out, the quail egg would not be included.+ordering online is available+changing menu of noodle dishes+popup at Fishcake

About 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, there was already a line of people placing their order for fresh pulled noodles. We were told that the first batch would be served about 11 a.m. so we quickly put our order in.The first thing that caught my attention, was the savory aroma of their 5-spice ground pork being cooked. You can add this as a topping to the noodle dish. The second thing that caught my attention, was the labor of love going in to each order of fresh pulled noodles. You can watch him stretch the dough ball and slap it on the counter before he boils each batch with careful preparation. The third thing that caught my attention, was their adorable mother, helping to slice the cucumbers and top each dish with crushed iso peanuts. Do not forget to order the side of pickled bittermelon....so good!!From beginning to end, this was an incredible experience of all my senses! To see and hear them at work and then to taste the delicious sesame sauce on the fresh pulled noodles....WOW! The soft noodles, the crisp bittermelon, and the savory sauce....super delish!Seriously, go early to place your order. The wait is totally worth it :) Will come back next time to try other menu items.

IG: Shimas oodles of noodles.Only found at Fishcake/Kakaako area on Saturdays from 11 A.M. until sell out. They do have quite the following and can bring in a crowd/waves of people, so make sure you go when they open to secure a bowl or two! They seem to rotate the noodles between biang biang and udon every week. If anything, the udon would have different variations of it when its served that week. Menu items are roughly about $12 starting, and you can save a dollar if you dine in or bring your own container. They accept cash or venmo, but please double check your tab before paying since there could be a little confusion with the takeout options w/reusable containers that are brought in. It does take awhile to place your order, and then you have to wait for it to be made, since its made fresh to order, so be prepared to wait a bit for your food and maybe grab some shave ice AFTER you pay. Theres a few tables inside, and chairs outside that can accommodate between 2-5 guests per table. What i really like about this place is the relaxing vibes (minus the noodle chaos) and that it is dog friendly! We come with my dog Simba every now and then when we have a chance. The biang biang can be a little spicy - but you can also ask for less spice. They'll also bring you water if you dine in too. Pro Tip - Show up at least 15 mins prior to opening. LOL.

Followed on IG and placed a Thursday pre-order for 2 dishes of udon for pick up on Saturday. The menu is posted on Thursday, but not sure if pre-ordering is available every week, yet always available if udon is being served. There are a limited amount of pre-orders for each of 3 pick up times. Walk-in ordering is available but limited, and several customers had to be turned away because he had sold out. This is a Saturday only pop up, inside an eclectic furniture and home accessories store called fishcake. Shima's also shares the front side space with a shave ice pop up. Parking is mainly street parking, but there are a few stalls in the driveway. If you're going after the farmer's market is closed, then parking shouldn't be an issue. From the moment I stepped out of my car, I could tell the udon was going to be delicious. The scent of the dashi wafted down the road. Inside is a cute pop up. Maybe about 5 tables, including 1 larger table that seats about 6. Although there is AC, the front is open air, so it can get warm, but it was still comfortable. While I waited which was past my pick up time, I watched my udon being handmade. My chikara udon ($15) was packed with garnishes and mochi, and the dashi separate. Bringing your own containers takes $1 off the price, and I love that it encourages less packaging waste. My takeout held up well on the ride home. I did heat up the broth more as a preference. Poured over the udon...it was so good! Noodles had a perfectly chewy texture...so slurpable. Dashi was savory with just the right amount of saltiness. The mochi held its crunch and chew as it sat in the broth, and I loved the ever so slight bitterness of the greens. My only wish was the fishcake was cut a little thicker because I could barely taste it.Both online and in person, the service is responsive and friendly. All my messages and questions were answered. In store, water was offered while I waited. When I left, I was thanked for my business and apologized to for the wait, which I didn't mind.Definitely looking forward to my next visit!

What a gem of a find. When good hearted people meets good hearted soul food you can really feel (and taste) the difference. One of the best dishes I've ever had!.. right alongside a bunch of other people experiencing the same food feels as me..It was fun watching the crew prepare and serve the food too! You can feel their energy and their kindness shine through in the food, in the faces, and in the fun! 11/10 will keep coming back!
