I love, love, love gems like this! It was my first time trying saimin and it won't be my last. We were told that the owner goes in daily to make the noodles fresh and you can tell! It was so, so good!! The Teri beef sticks were really good, too!!We were about to check out and we overheard everyone talking about their hamburger. How did I miss this! We just so happen to be there when they found out they had the #1 hamburger, so we had to try it! They put our order in and it came out fast! Next time I'll order it the same time I get my saimin because we were told it *has to be* dipped in the broth! Not many tables inside, but we didn't wait too long. They were very accommodating! I had our niece with us and they turned a highchair over, so her car seat wasn't on the floor.Everyone was friendly and very humble. I loved our experience -- even though it was a few months ago. I highly recommend Shige's!

They now have a take out window. My husband pointed it out as we were driving away. He said it's easy and the crowd outside was for the window. They make their own noodles which are good. A little softer than the big noodle company in town but still good. The broth tasted a little different to me. I can't put my finger on it.We got wonton min and burgers. I asked for grilled onions. So much better than raw!

Shige's is one of those small local restaurants that I'm always on the lookout for and it turned out to be the gem I expected. I first heard about this spot from a YouTuber and shortly after, I saw that it won #1 best burger in the US, so I knew I couldn't miss it during my recent trip to Oahu. Given their notoriety, I was concerned that we might face long wait times, but the hype has since settled down and we got a table immediately when we came at 4:30P. The restaurant only had about seven tables and their menu consists of saimin, burgers, skewers and sides. Our waiter, Jon, told us that a traditional combo is to order a saimin and a burger, which is what the owner recommends. Inspired to eat like the locals, I did exactly that!+ SMALL SAIMIN ($8.45): This was such a comforting bowl of soup. Their homemade noodles had a firm, slightly chewy texture with a gentle curl. Between the egg, Spam, char siu, fish cake and green onion that topped the bowl, I enjoyed the variation of ingredients. The broth was clear, light and soothing with a level of saltiness that was just right. It was simple yet satisfying! + DELUXE BBQ BURGER ($5.95): Of all their burgers, I was told this is considered their signature one. It was delicious and a good size for being priced so low. A hand-formed patty was cooked more well-done, slightly charred, and topped with a thick slice of onion, mayo, tomato, lettuce and a sweet smoky BBQ sauce. I wouldn't necessarily call it the best burger I've ever had, but it was still really tasty. I enjoyed alternating bites of it between sips of my saimin broth. It's clear that they pour a lot of care into the food here. In addition to the handmade noodles (made daily), they were folding wontons in the back. Also, Jon was the best waiter we could have asked for. He was so friendly, made us feel super welcome and took great care of us. On top of the food, his hospitality really made our visit here so memorable. As we left, he even stepped out the door quickly to say a final goodbye. For me, it's tough to beat a humble restaurant like Shige's where the recipes come from the heart. I'm grateful we had a chance to enjoy a local meal here and the prices can't be matched either!

We were lucky to be eating a late lunch, so there was no wait to be seated, yay!Yum! So sorry, I ate my food so fast and forgot to take a pic! Had the BBQ Cheeseburger (regular) and it was delish! (Deluxe would have included onion and tomato, so I passed on that; and the Double Patty would have been ginormous.)My friends had the fried saimin, mixed plate (teri beef + hamburger steak), and hamburger steak. Devoured it all. I asked how the gravy was, and their response was, they don't skimp on taste or the serving. (As in, some places aren't as generous with the all important gravy!)Also of serious note-the service is so pleasant and downright caring!Got checked on more than once, including water refills. And, when they thought they'd taken too long to take our order, they were so apologetic. And another thing-everyone had a genuine smile. For real. Restroom is through the red door and is small but clean. If you are an ASB customer, you get an extra $10 of your bill! (Not sure how long this promotion lasts.)OMG what a pleasant surprise!!!

This place seems to have a long history and is an iconic spot. We ordered saimin to try and it wasn't bad, but maybe that's not the type of noodle soup I enjoy. The noodles were a little soggy and the broth tasted like shoyu+water to me, not my cup of tea. The dumplings or wonton were also just ok. The wrapper was too thick as well. However, if you've never been, it's worth it to check it out just because of this mom and pop shop's long history and a staple in this part of town.

There's always a feeling of comfort and warmth at Shige's. My friend and I went after not being there in awhile and yup, still just as ono as it has always been! I often get the loco moco but when at Shige's- gotta get the saimin and the cheeseburger deluxe! Prices are awesome, customer service is even better. They are so kind and helpful. You walk out feeling good not just because you're well fed, but because of the people. A Wahiawa staple, a must try if you haven't tried.I'm ready to go back! (Once I don't feel so stuffed!) There is plenty of parking available as well. They can get busy but most people eat and go so you can get a table quickly.

Yelp ranked Shige's burger as #1 in the US in 2024, and while I think burgers are entirely subjective, this is in fact a REALLY solid burger. It was so tender and flavorful, with the perfect sear on the outside. It almost reminded us of meatloaf, due to the texture and the flavor. It is simple, it is inexpensive, it is great. The entire menu is so reasonably priced that our lunch for 4 came in under $40. That feels unheard of, in Hawaii or anywhere else in the US at this point. The "small" Saimin was still a very large bowl of soup, just as flavorful as the burger, and only $8.45. The Loco Moco was piled high in a bowl for a mere $10. Service was SO friendly, and this will certainly be a repeat spot for us. There isn't a ton of parking, but people are always coming and going. We had a short wait a little after noon on a Friday, but things move pretty quickly. All worth it for this wonderful food for what feels like a steal!

Shige's Saimin Stand is a super popular spot for their saimin, but they were recently voted in having the best burger in the U.S. (yes, including the mainland) -We came here for an early dinner, and there was already a long line - this is a first-come, first-serve type of a situation in which you write your name and number in your party on a notepad right by the entrance, and just wait until you are called.Their menu is pretty straightforward, offering saimin and noodle dishes as well as burgers/sandwiches.We ordered:+the Saimin - garnished with Spam, char siu, egg, green onions, and fish cake+the Cheeseburger Deluxe - which came with ketchup, mayo, lettuce, onions, and tomatoesMake sure you request extra hot mustard to add to your saimin broth; noodles were good, but the broth was just chicken stock and tasted thin. Adding the hot mustard did help a bit.The Cheeseburger Deluxe was my favorite - even though it was a simple burger, the beef patty was thick, juicy, and well-seasoned; the toppings were all fresh, and I wished we had ordered a few more of these!Service was pretty friendly and efficient. There is a small shared strip plaza lot to park your car.+first-come, first-serve process+Cheeseburger Deluxe+request the hot mustard+friendly & efficient staff

We of course had to come here after reading about the best burger in the nation. It seems as if other folks had the same idea since the wait for just take out was going to be an hour. We instead decided to eat in, that wait was about 20 minutes. This mom and pop joint has a great homey ambiance. Everyone is super friendly and it makes you feel good eating here. The burger is good, it's tender. It's reminiscent of meatloaf or a meatball beef patty. Now would I say best burger ever? Probably not. The bun was a little mid and the type of patty wouldn't be what I expect for a quality burger but this is expected for the price. I still quite enjoyed it and it's definitely worth trying. It might be up your alley. What I do recommend is the flavorful saimin and the beef skewers. Those two items together. The saimin is a taste of nostalgia and warm & comforting. The beef skewers are tasty. Definitely give them a try if you haven't.
