Satoshi Yamauchi Custom Furniture Maker

I needed the legs of my buffet cut 3 inches so that it could fit underneath my newly installed plantation shutters. I needed someone to cut them precisely so it could keep the factory look. I checked around and happy I found Satoshi. He cut the legs, matched the finish where they were cut, and added felt bottoms. I am very happy with the outcome and glad that my furniture doesn't look tacky with a bad modification job.

This a great shop and the team was great to work with. I needed to have some hardwood flattened for a project, and they were responsive, efficient, nice, and charged a very reasonable price for the work.

My husband ordered a custom monkypod desk made for me as a Christmas present. Satoshi and Marcia worked with us on the design and specifications. The desk is beautiful and was above and beyond what we had in mind. The experience was so positive that we will definitely order more pieces in the future.

My husband and I had a great experience working with Satoshi and Marcia and we would recommend them without hesitation to anyone wanting a piece of custom furniture. They built a monkeypod wood bar counter for our condo which turned out beautifully and has received many compliments.From our first phone call to the final delivery, Satoshi and Marcia were nothing but gracious and professional. I had been searching online for countertop options besides the usual granite and quartz, and came across a monkeypod wood counter on their blog (which they did for a cafe in Waikiki). I didn't think I could afford custom furniture, but called anyway and to my surprise, their quote based on my idea and rough dimensions was quite reasonable! So we started the design process which involved them visiting our condo a couple times to take measurements and show us wood samples. We met another time to see the actual monkeypod slab they purchased (which is another thing I like about the piece, that the wood is local from Oahu) to make sure it was in line with what we envisioned (the color, shape/edge, etc.). I appreciated their attention to detail and good communication with us throughout the entire process. That even though we were probably one of their smaller jobs, they valued our preferences and took time to make sure we were on the same page. They worked with my contractor to discuss installation of the piece, and were very careful about putting grooves in the right places so that the supporting brackets would be hidden. For a small fee, Satoshi and Marcia delivered the piece when it was completed, and my contractor did the installation. Everything went smoothly and relatively quickly. Satoshi was able to fit my piece into his schedule within a few weeks of my initial phone call. I feel very fortunate that everything worked out and now I have a gorgeous custom piece in my home. What started as a google search ended up being one of the best parts of our kitchen/living room. Thank you, Satoshi and Marcia!!

I tried to contact them several times. Left messages and they didn't bother to called me back. Now there's a recorded message saying they are too busy. I understand they are busy and it's a small business, but at least try to return calls. They might be busy now, but they'll need more customers in the future, won't they? I'm taking my business elsewhere.I appreciate their response below, to which they replied within minutes after I posted my review. But if you have time to reply to a negative review on Yelp, give customers a quick call, especially after they leave you messages. Small gestures like that show good customer service. I contacted other businesses that are also busy but they were accommodating and even made recommendations. We are a small community, we try to support small, local businesses, and it doesn't cost a thing helping each other. Thanks!

I have a small dining table which height is too high compare to regular ones. I contacted some carpenters & some construction supply companies if they could adjust its table height. Unfortunately none could do it. I was surfing the internet & "Satoshi Yamauchi's Custom Furniture" caught my attention due to good reviews. I drove to his shop with the help of my friend. Satoshi was very kind & helpful. Though my furniture is not a quality furniture like the ones that Satoshi creates, he was very down to earth & kind. Satoshi & his other team members were busy working on other projects, however Satoshi fixed my dining table in less than 10 minutes!!! After I got home, I read about Hida furniture because on their website, they mentioned that Satoshi is a skilled furniture maker from Hida. It was interesting to learn that Hida's wood work was first mentioned in the Japanese history book 1,300 years ago!!! OMGIf anyone who needs a beautiful quality custom furniture, Satoshi Yamauchi Custom Furniture is the one!!! Hawaii, we are lucky that we have a skilled master from Hida, Japan!!!P.S. Thank you so much for fixing my dining table problem. It is now perfect!!!

They would get 10 stars if there were an option for that. Excellent communications to achieve a beyond excellent custom table made of monkeypod at an extremely reasonable price. We do not typically find service providers on the internet, but we did that here and it was a terrific experience.

We are very diapointment of his work & service. We design high end of custom home greater Honolulu area. We expected high quality custom cabinet from his shop. Before the production they prepare a lot of paper work. We thought they made sure the quality of work.But we received the products at job site, their quality of work same level as Chinese cabinets. Some cabinet doors are warped and door & drawer spacing ware not equal spacing. And then the kitchen cabinet ware cricket and sloppy looking.We report to their shop, but they never come to our job site even once. They are not supporting their customers, they protect by themselves. Because we signed their document, they told us they do not have any responsibility. We hire the other cabinet maker to fix their problem and we never experience　this kind of selfish company.

ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS. HIGHEST QUALITY!!!Satoshi is, without a doubt, a TRUE ARTIST and craftsman. He produces the highest quality and most beautifully made custom pieces I have seen and he makes each piece exactly to his clients' specifications. The pieces are of the utmost quality and craftsmanship. I expect our pieces will last a lifetime and beyond.Thus far we have purchased custom bookshelves, a custom dining table and custom cabinets from Yamauchi Woodworks. All EXACTLY what we wanted/envisioned.Our tastes are more contemporary/modern/clean (vs "Hawaiiana") and we were having a VERY hard time finding anyone locally that could/would make our style of furniture. I am sure Satoshi can produce pieces in many styles, but I can attest to the fact that he is expert at the kind of style we prefer. We plan to have Satoshi make more custom pieces for us in the future. I am interested in seeing what he does with reclaimed wood, as I like the contemporary "rustic" look as well.

We looked everywhere for a large shelving unit and couldn't find one we liked. So we inquired about custom made furniture. After emailing a sketch, Satoshi cane to the house and measured out the space to see if it would fit. The difficult part was trying to match our existing table. Satoshi came to the house several times with wood samples and then stain samples to make sure the shelving unit would match perfectly. The shelving unit was exactly what we wanted!! He even came back to our house to install shims as our floor was uneven. His work, and wife, Marcia, are so professional and accommodating. They take pride in their work and the relationships they form with their clients. We are already hiring them for 2 more projects.
