Cheap Hawaiian eats. Classic old school style that is tasty and filling. This is not gourmet fare, but hits the spot for a beach lunch!

Update to 10/26/24 review:The food's flavor changes when reheated a day or two later. Suggestion: get a plate for lunch that day and wait until next open day to get more. Fresh okazu is best.

Takeout and cash only. Got the nishime, long rice, fish and vegetable katsu. Lady at the counter was very friendly and nice. Tables outside were a little weathered, but you can always take your food to a nearby park or beach!

The food was so tasteless, I traveled from the windward side to try them out, I was so disappointed, spent over $80.00 on okazuya and there was nothing worth my trip.

It's been a while since I last came here since we no longer live in the area.We wanted to try something different this morning, so I suggested to my wife that I pick up some local-style inari sushi and other goodies.I tried to get there early as I read how they run out of some of the food if you arrive too late. I got there around 7:30 am, and fortunately there was no line at the time.I ordered 3 inari sushi, a whole roll of maki sushi, a medium container of namasu, some long rice and a sweet potato tempura. I forgot to ask for their nishime.Different from what I see of the Japan-style, their local-style inari ("cone") sushi are bigger, with bits of carrots scattered throughout. This reminds me of the cone sushi which my mother used to make as we were growing up.It was my first time trying the sweet potato tempura, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I cut it open to see how it looked inside. If someone just wanted a big piece of sweet potato with a thin layer of fried batter, they would have been disappointed with this. There was a thin sliver of sweet potato surrounded by what looked like a lot of fried bread. When eating something for the first time, I try not to let preconceived notions get in the way and accept things for what they are. As I first bit into the "tempura" I was pleasantly surprised at how crunchy it was on the outside and how tasty it was overall. It reminded me of undagi, except for its larger size and with the piece of sweet potato inside as a treat. I really enjoyed it and would definitely order it again.https://www.facebook.com/groups/hawaiiworld/permalink/284978387531324/?mibextid=oMANbw

Now owned by St. Louis drive inn. Old owners stuck around to make sure the recipes are being followed. However, last time I went the chowfun tasted oily and different than I remember. I hope they can get the kinks out and maintain the flavor I remember.

The owner retired and St. Louis drive inn has now taken over this business. I believe the food is still the same. I love most everything here, the long rice and shoyu chicken is delish! They only allow 1 person in at a time so most times there is a line out the door.

I just realized St. Louis Drive in has a okazuya side. It's on the left of the drive in. Food and service is excellent. Gotta go early because they sell out of some stuff fast. They are open Wednesday - Saturday 7am-1pm or until the food runs out. That day we got there around 11:00 and a lot of stuff was gone. We were able to get fried chicken, chow fun, shrimp & vegetable tempura, mac salad and namasu. We also grabbed some stuff from next door , that will be a different post.

It takes a while to get your food. Need to allow for at least half an hour. 4 people in front of me, 30+ min wait. When I left, line has over 10 people. Previously, the wait would be 15 mins max. Portions have gotten smaller and everything is slightly more expensive.
