Our second time here, our first was our anniversary and now for our pre Valentine's Day dinner and wow!!!! I love the food here but above all is the service we receive, to be seen and taken care of is what keeps us coming back. The ambiance here is warm and welcoming. I love how the owner comes by our table to greet us which left an impression on us too. We will come again soon!

Roy's is always a great dinner night! Perfect choice for couples date night and also birthday celebrations!Service - love that the restaurant workers all greet you as you enter. Our server was attentive, we were a bit bummed that there was no escargot on the menu for appetizer, but the server gave us an appetizer that was delish- short rib gyoza. Water and ice tea was always topped off immidiately. They also boxed our leftovers and gave us a big bag to carry it home.Atmosphere/Ambiance - they have a cute Christmas tree in the lobby. We dined early which is super nice for a sunset view but it can get bright with the sun even when the shades are down and it was a little hot, once the sun sets they open the shades which allows good lighting for pics!Food- food is always great, we had one dish that wasn't cooked to the right temperature but it was fixed immidiately. The 14 oz smoked rib eye plate is a bit messy, the dish seems to big for the plate, the steak is on top of the risotto so as you're cutting it the risotto is sliding to the edge of the plate, would have preferred it to be set on a bigger plate with the risotto on the side, the plate also has a lot of sauce not sure if it's from the steak or the kale but it got a bit messy with cutting the steak. The kids meals under 12 are amazing here they start them with a cheese quesadillas slices with grapes, celery, carrot, salad , a few choices for entree which include salmon or braised beef, and a cookie ice cream sandwich for dessert $16 the salmon was cooked perfectly!Dessert - chocolate soufflé is always amazing! No more yelp check in offer though but it's still delicious they also had a pumpkin soufflé for the season and pineapple upside down cake. Their complementary cookies and creme panna cotta was delicious too! Parking - there's lots of parking right outside the restaurant, the nearest establishment (used to be scratch kitchen/outback) is empty for now so there's tons of parking available.Thank you for a great birthday celebration dinner!

Went there for the early weekday birthday celebration. The service was wonderful and fast. The ocean view was spectacular. We had nice cocktails, then the Crab Cakes and Pork Ribs for appetizers, and Rib Eye and a Fish Mixed Plate for main dishes.I noticed a lot of the dishes we ordered had slight spicy flavors. Although I can't take too much spicy stuff, I didn't mind since it was not overly spicy. The Crab Cakes were perfect, also the Pork Ribs were good, and the ribs got me wanting to have some white rice with it. The Rib Eyes were pretty decent with the unique corn salsa. The Fish Mixed Plate had a nice presentation and it was a wonderful idea to get to taste different fish in one plate.Since it was my early birthday celebration, they gave us the Panna Cotta. I really appreciated that, but I did tell them that I couldn't have dairy in advance. Oh well. My company enjoyed that for me, so it was all good.I thought the price was pretty reasonable especially happy hour items. I'd like to come back here again in the future.

We love Roy's! We've been to several at different locations but this was our first time going to this one. I recommend sitting upstairs so you have a nice view of the water and/ or the sunset when it's around dinner time. Outside was too hot and downstairs there's no real view. Service was great! Our waiter was super efficient and nice, and he made great recommendations. The manager also came to our table to introduce himself and he gave us some recs for our next visit. Very friendly guy! Food was great as always. We tried the fried zucchini because it sounded interesting. It was on a bao bun topped with XO sauce, and we loved it. Misoyaki butterfish is always a must. Cooked perfectly over forbidden rice. My hubby got the short ribs, the meat was so tender and fell right off. We went overboard with dessert. Got the chocolate soufflé, bread pudding, and they surprised us with a guava panna cotta for our anniversary. Soufflé was perfect, very chocolatey. Bread pudding wasn't as douchey as I would have liked but my husband loved it. Definitely a great dinner to end our Oahu trip!

Our first dinner during our stay in Oahu, we booked this place because Roy's used to be our favorite spot years ago when we visited the Big Island and Maui. The food was very good, in particular I enjoyed the blackened ahi tuna, and the family also enjoyed their picks, chirashi sushi and butterfish. We closed the dinner with the famous melted chocolate soufflé, which did not disappoint. A must have for sure. The key lime pie was not my favorite though, I would not reorder it. Service was very attentive. Highly recommended.

Consistently amazing. The staff is always professional, welcoming, and kind. George B is the best. The Misoyaki Butterfish is tender and mouth watering. The sauce it comes with is like this perfect river of buttery flavor. The Szechuan Baby Back Pork Ribs, Crispy Zucchini on bao buns, and, of course, the Chocolate Soufflé are all amazing.

"Tom, you've got to go to the original. Sure, there are a lot of 'Roy's' around, but this one is where it all started," my friend from Hawaii told me.With that in mind, here we are, on a Friday evening, eating at Roy's Hawaii Kai. The one in Waikiki we could have walked to, but we needed to go to the original. We arrived and were seated at a second-floor window seat with a breathtaking view of the bay. On this day there were many canoes out and it was nice to be able to take in the view and the canoes.Do we start with a cocktail? Yes we do...we ordered two, and both tasted great. They've got a dedicated bartender who is interested in doing a good job. I was able to watch him do a little 'in service' lesson for a group of four young men that I assumed were bussers. You are never too young or old to add to your knowledge bank, and he bartender was willing to share.Do we order the dinner tasting? Yes we do, for one, and then we add to it with a number of other items.Do we think that these are the best crab cakes we've had in our life? We do discuss the issue and suffice it to say that they were out of this world tasty and very worthy of being in the conversation around the topic. In short, we were very happy with our meal, the service, and the view, and we would encourage you to check it out. This was our first Roy's and so we can't compare it to the other outlets, but I'd be willing to try them all based on this visit. I agree with my friend. You might as well start with the standard bearer and check out the others down the road.

Wow; first review in years. I can't remember the last time I felt cheated like this from eating a meal. I have been waiting to dine at Roy's for many many years. It was our first time in Hawaii and our hotel was downtown Waikiki next to a Roy's but we took the 20 minute uber to the original location! Had to pay respect to the place that started it all!We came to the restaurant on Valentine's Day which I know is not an ideal day to dine out but I could never imagine the experience I received with the price im paying. We were told the hostess were going to call to alert all the diners it was pre fixe only. I was not called. We don't mind if the pre fixe is tasty and the price matches the quality. I have dined from hole in the walls to 3 Michelin starred restaurants . Eating and food is my life and passion. My g/f was trying to steer free from gluten or dairy but was going to splurge on mashed potatoes for the holiday . Surprisingly they were out after a bunch of confusion from being told they have mashed potatoes that use only olive oil and Then being told it's made with dairy and being told the kitchen wouldn't give us the mashed potatoes because of her allergy. The manager came over and told us they were out . It's Valentine's Day, I understand . But geez she got a piece of dry filet, some soy sauce and rice . The pre fixe for her was 3 piece of sashimi in some ponzu sauce . No garnishes or anything. Very very sad . Second course she got some cut up romaine lettuce with lemon juice . I'm so sad to even type this and really in shock.I didn't know what to do or say and the entire meal I wasn't sure if it was a joke.I obviously had the pre fixe as well and first course was two golf ball sized " lobster" cakes . I really don't want to be the person that says there was barely any lobster in there but I'm not sure if they ran out of cakes and did something on the fly.... It resembled eating fried breadcrumbs wrapped bread. There was no Bread service so I was okay with the breaded bread . Second course was a Caesar salad for me that resembled a salad I would get from a wedding banquet meal serving 260 seared guest. The couple next to me called it very "mid". I overheard them . I tried to remain optimistic and calm to continue to remember its Valentine's Day but also i can't help but be reminded that I'm paying around 120.00 per person for the meal. Which is not extremely expensive BUT WE ARE AT ROYS original restaurant: this can't be happening lol.Next my entree comes and I'm praying it's good.... I'm so let down because I get the trio of fish and it's supposed to come on top of all these amazing things the awesome server described ... forbidden black rice , noodles, Asian veg. Nothing . None of that was there besides a big mount of rice. The rice was supposed to be tossed in something amazing too... it was not . I feel bad for my beautiful girlfriend because I'm livid inside and trying to make the best of this but can't stand the fact that she still hasn't gotten her mashed potatoes and there seems to be so much confusion with everything that at this point she has given up and just putting on a smile because I am just in shock at the meal I'm eating. The server was amazing I must say. The red velvet cake was good too and so were the sorbets . I know that Roy's has to be good. But tonight .... It was one of the worst if not the worst meal I have had in 2 years.I'm laying in bed really sad and not really sure what to do so I had to leave this review. I have taken pics on every single sit down meal I have had in years but tonight I didn't think about it once . It was a joke of an experience especially an iconic place like this . Sad this is my last meal in Hawaii and I cancelled my morimoto reservation to come here. When you play in the big leagues and charge big league prices.... You have to perform. You have to deliver. This was not it .The pictures are from my girlfriend.
