We regularly market at the Kaka'ako Farmers Market and are happy to say that although we have established favorite vendors, we continue to FIND new vendors with great artisanal products to try. This past Saturday, while roaming about the farmers market after getting a green smoothie ('Ōma'o Man) and checking out the fresh omusubi (The Rice Factory), we came across Roscoe's Sourdough. What caught our eyes at Roscoe's Sourdough was the fabulous display of their fresh baked sourdough breads. The loaves of bread ranged in flavors, shapes and prices ($5 - $10). The appealing factors of Roscoe's Sourdough were their impressive crisp crust, beautiful "bloom" (color) and crumb. Especially attractive to me, at the time, was their Olive-Garlic focaccia square priced at $5 (mainly because we hadn't eaten breakfast yet). second loaf that attracted me was called "Da Purps" which has the purple Okinawan sweet potato listed as one of its ingredients. However, I didn't want to get ahead of myself so only purchased the focaccia.I didn't get to chat with the woman behind the table as she and another woman were having a conversation so I wasn't able to get any background information about the baker or his business. However, I did only interrupt to ask to purchase a square of focaccia. She was friendly and smiley as she packaged a fresh square of focaccia into a plain brown paper bag.We rushed home to tear into some of this sourdough focaccia. Its mild sourness complemented the roasted sweet garlic and olive oil. The focaccia was delicious at room temperature as its chewy yet airy structure made for a great mouthfeel. I did think about lightly toasting the focaccia and smearing it with some butter or dipping it into an olive oil and balsamic vinegar dip. Instead, I cut the square horizontally to make 2 squares while sautéing mushrooms, onions and garlic as a topping. I then topped each focaccia half with the mushroom mixture, sprinkled feta cheese atop and toasted the focaccia until the cheese melted and focaccia was warmed through. In short, the warmed sourdough focaccia tasted better than its room temperature version.I can't wait until next Saturday to try a loaf of Roscoe's Da Purps or maybe the classic O.G.

Passed this bread stand at the Kakaako Farmers Market and I'm so glad I stopped!Haven't tried anything else but the ciabatta bread, but will have to try other breads as they all look good.Roscoe's ciabatta bread is ONO! We eat it so quickly that we run out before the next weekend, and we're talking loaves between just 2 people...Sliced thick or thin, toasted with slathers of butter, this bread is chewy on the inside and crispy, crunchy on the outside! Woo hoo!

I tried the olive sough-dough I bought at Sunday Kailua Farmers Market. After eating the entire loaf we had exactly ONE olive in the loaf. Flower's Bakery across the street a much better option.

Roscoe has been baking for a couple of years and started his baking forte in Minnesota while he was stuck inside during the cold winters! A local boy missing the warmth, he returned home and continued to perfect his skills! His own starter yeast formula, gives his bread a sweet and tangy taste. Speciality loafs besides the standard sourdough are the Japanese Sweet potato/Ube loaf and sesame sourdough. He tells me he experiments with other ingredients and is always introducing new flavors! The bread is fresh! Baked daily and super crunchy and the smell is wonderful. We got the sesame seed loaf and took it home with a little butter. Was delicious! But would def recommend to toast it.The sesame seeds give it a nice sweet nutty flavor He also said it goes great as sandwich bread and/or jam. Can't wait to see what else he develops!

I found Roscoe's at the Kailua Farmers Market. I dream about his sourdough all the time. It starts off with someone asking me about eat Sourdough bread with Green Eggs and Ham... and I'm all like..."I can eat here, I can eat it there, I can eat it anywhere.I can eat it with the fam, i can eat it with some clam."~ "Would you eat it with Chili?""Why, Don't be silly! I can eat it with Chili. Even if I was in Philly.""But we are in the 808. So don't stop and wait. GoTo Roscoe's now before it's too late!oh and Follow his instagram for his farmers markets updates! =)@roscoe.sourdough

so so so so so sososososososososooooooo good. Found Roscoe's at the Kaka'ako Farmer's Market and cannot say enough good things about this bread. It sent me to heaven, I kissed the sourdough gods, and then came back to earth to eat more. And can I just say, what a steal for artisanal breads wow. $5 for the Focaccia squares [ which ended up being a surprise fave! ] and $8 for the OG Sourdoughs. These are good for a few days after buying them - we kept the focaccia in the fridge and warmed it up in our toaster oven to bring it back to life and it was just so freaking delicious - we got the olive and garlic and it was so flavorful and so good. The sourdough has been great, we just got the plain OG, it's great on its own, with butter, with an egg on top. Seriously this is the best bread I've had on the island. I will be back, my carb addiction cannot wait until I get more of this stuff.

I'm a New Yorker and three weeks ago at the Farmers Market on Ward bought their bagels. Flat out the best bagels in Hawaii, and I'm in the food/hospitality business. A major surprise. His loaf bread was also first rate. But can't find them since. Who are you?? Hawaii needs your bagels and breads-- and so do I!
