I recently got to try the Shau Essen line of arabiki sausages and I was impressed!THIS is the arabiki sausages that I tasted at breakfast buffets in Japan! This is my new favorite arabiki.Inside sources tell me that a special team came from Japan just to teach the Hawaii crew the proper procedures to make the product. From what I'm told, the procedure has to be followed to the T for it to be called a "Shau Essen".Japanese standards for Japanese food.Makes sense to me!

I'm not really that much of a fan of Redondos (well, that much is obvious with a two star rating). Their Portuguese sausage is alright. I prefer Uncle Louies (http://www.yelp.com/biz/uncle-louies-sausage-co-kahului) over all other brands. It's just a larger and more flavorful especially the ones with maui onions in them.My major grip is their red hot dogs. The red hot dogs have an really odd flavor about them. I think that if it's something you grew up with, you'd like them. If not, well you're not going to like them. It's definitely not a beefy flavor plus it's not a natural casing hot dog (so that's two major all encompassing strikes against them right there). They are an inexpensive brand alternative though.

I was raised in the Midwest on Oscar Meyer Weiners, and have tried Ball Park, Bar-S, and most generics. The weird red-colored Redondos hot dogs are much better. Hebrew National are almost as good, but cost twice as much.Redondos hot dogs are bursting with flavor from all the fat. (Well, if you don't like fat in your hot dog, go for a tofu hot dog, one of the few foods that I have immediately regretted putting in my mouth.) There might be a slight bit of sweet in them. They nuke well. I wish they were a little bigger around, but hey, so I have to eat several instead of two big ones. The Mono Ono Portuguese Sausage is excellent -- slightly sweet. The other Portagee sausages (Hot or Mild) are about the same as other manufacturers. I usually put the bigger 10 ouncers under the broiler. Turn after about 4-5 minutes, broil until they pop (explode, really), and another minute to warm the inside. Good stuff.

The HAWAIIAN WINNERS is the only hot dog I will eat with hot rice and sometimes pork and beans with mayonnaise. By itself is great too. My dogs love the Franks so we are a REDONDO's family...
