The original Ezogiku on Kalakaua Ave. was our favorite ramen & fried rice spot on the rock. In their heyday, they had about five locations on Oahu. In 2024, they're down to two if you go by the biz name, or one (in Aiea) if going by the menu selections and taste. When the Kalakaua location closed, they relocated to the Royal Hawaiian Center's food court before closing again after a few years. Enter 2021; this is their third and current relocation but with a different menu. ATMOSPHERE:Their newest iteration finds them in a covered side street alley food court shared with four other eateries and communal seating. MENU:Ramen in four broths (shoyu, miso, tonkotsu & vegan), cold versions, a brothless mazeman, rice & gyoza. FOOD:Simple Ramen Combo - $15.95Shoyu ramen topped with tender chashu, half a hard boiled egg, fishcake & green onions. The $5 upcharge added fried rice and 4-pieces of gyoza. The best part of this was the chewy, eggy noodles. The semi-hot broth, while dark and savory, was flat with no depth. Almost as good as the original, the fried rice had noticeably less bits of chashu, fishcake and flavor. Though with a nice char, the gyozas easily fell apart when picking them up due to their thin and soggy wrappers. SERVICE:Counter service was friendly. Food came out in under 10 minutes. TIP:10% kama'aina discount available. Type in your phone number on their tablet which automatically enrolls you into their loyalty program. OVERALL:Want old school Ezogiku? Head to their last stronghold in the town of Aiea.

flavorless, just salty. compared to back home in LA, that's how 99% of restaurants have been in hawaii. so this is a pretty average score compared to everything else here. tbh, go to the small local spots. the food everywhere is so mid

My first experience with "real"ramen was at Ezogiku in the 90's when they had a restaurant on Kalakaua. It's always been my favorite ramen shop in Hawaii. After a break of at least a decade I ate here and wow, delicious and familiar. Curly, chewy noodles, amazing shoyu broth, fried rice with the special sesame seed oil yum! Highly recommend!

We ordered two bowls of char siu soy sauce ramen and one order of gyoza. The broth was completely tasteless other than soy sauce flavor and water. The meat on gyoza has an aged or expired taste. The noodles were overcooked. I don't think this is an authentic Japanese restaurant.

My husband and I are clearly ramen snobs... either that, or we dined in on an off day because we were underwhelmed by Ezogiku. We both had bowls of the miso ramen along with the fried rice and gyoza. The miso broth was medicore and the noodles were cooked al dente with a good ratio of chewiness. The fried rice was also bland and the gyoza was nothing to rave about. However, the cashier was very friendly and the food came out quickly. It was challenging to get here since it was in a small food court area on a side road and can be easy to miss since the shop itself is tucked in the corner. There are a few tables for dine in which are shared with the other restaurants in the food court.

Really ono, quality and affordable ramen with friendly service can be found at Ezogiku Waikiki (located in small food court at 2239 Waikolu Way in Waikiki between Royal Hawaiian Ave and Seaside Ave). Seek it, find it and also check out their Monday through Friday lunch specials from 11am-2pm. Depending on the daily special, they can include a side of their tasty gyoza or mini fried rice or mini curry rice. Their noodles are chewy just right, their broth is spot on and I've enjoyed their mulberry ramen (made from mulberry leaves, super food healthy) and their wonton ramen - they were comforting, ono and just what I needed. They have seating too, so pull up a chair and enjoy some ramen today!

Loved the TanTan mein! The closest to 'dry' ramen in Japan. The garlic shrimp tonkatsu ramen was great. Rich broth!! Loving ramen, it was delicious eating both bowls.
