I've looked around town for a good hula shop that has variety for an affordable price, and I think I've found the place. What I mostly look for is lots of pa'u skirts in various colors and sizes and this place has that. What most impressed me is that they have keiki pa'u skirts starting at size 4! Such cute patterns, too. They also have lots of hair clips, leis, and other adornments. I didn't look very hard to see what types of dresses they carried, but I did see that they had dresses in general. Parking is easy when you come on a sunday (free street parking). The store closes pretty early, so weekends are probably your best bet if you hold a 8-5 job. Staff is friendly as well. Definitely will come back.

Good selection of pa'u skirts and other hula costumes/adornments up front, aloha wear (including the white-on-white dresses for weddings) in the rear. Friendly staff let us try on dresses in a small curtained-off area of the shop. Good variety of cotton dresses, including some fun strapless numbers and a few cuts I don't see in most places. Standard prices ($65-80 for a dress). Wished they had more patterns and cuts in more sizes, but not every style was available in every size.Street parking or municipal lots.

Washed a Muu muu once from this shop. The white pattern on the yellow background disappeared leaving the yellow background. The man at the counter said you can call the "other company" and it's "not my problem". He stated initially that he "wasn't the owner" and would repeatedly say call the company to "sue them". Then he changed his story when pressed to ask for someone who has the authority to speak on this matter. He said "she's not here." Said repeatedly that she was the "owner". When asked for her contact information he would deflect the question and said "no, no problem". Then he changed his story AGAIN to that he is the "partner" and said he DOES in fact have the authority. However he still refuses to answer the question. He states that this is the "first time in 20 years that anyone has had a problem with this". He still thinks it was "bleached" or "chloroxed". That would remove all color and not leave behind a yellow background that is continuous with the rest of the original color. Would not recommend because the worker man named, "Kwong Hoi ChangF", would continue to change his story and not act with integrity of a business "owner". He refused to listen multiple times, would comment on "you're young like my son", would not even consider that this could happen to their product. I would expect store owners to take ownership of the products they sell regardless. This man, and by extension the store he represents, does not seem to value the experiences and concerns of their customer.

On 2/7/19 I purchased a beautiful long yellow muumuu (Hawaiian dress) from Rainbow Hawaii store on Maunakea Street. Plumerias and leaves were printed on it with white ink. It was highly starched. I washed it once to get the starch out. After drying, I noticed that the white ink on the front of the muu had disappeared in longitudinal panel patterns and the printing on the back of the muu was fine (see photos). I went back to the store on 2/9/19 requesting the woman clerk several times to see the store owner. She finally gave me his card with his phone number. I called him, telling him of the problem and requested a refund. He claimed and kept insisting that I had used Clorox, and I repeatedly told him that I did not. He said to come back on Monday when he would be at the store. I returned on 2/11/19 with my son. He argued with us, again saying that I should not use Clorox. Again, I told him that I do not use Clorox on my laundry. He refused a refund, pointing to the cash register sign saying "No Refunds, Exchange ONLY", and offered me the $45.00 purple muu that he remembered I had liked but did not purchase. That purple muu had a similar type of white ink imprint and I refused his offer. I had bought this yellow muumuu for $62.00. He told us to call the manufacturer, Trans-Pacific Textiles, Ltd, and to sue them, not him. Surprised at his suggestion, and trying to calm him down, we explained that we were not wanting to sue anyone, just wanting to have them stop selling these inferior quality muu to customers. He said that in his 20 years of business, I am the first and only complaint like this. At that point, he called Trans-Pacific Textiles, and explained my complaint to her, not letting her speak either. He will not refund. We left his store. The label indicates "machine-wash cold-warm". Poly-cotton muumuu are everyday clothing that most locals throw in to their washer and dryer. I am now pursuing refund via my credit card company.Desired Resolution Description (sent to BBB):Communicate to the business owner to uphold quality control of the products he sells to his customers. Intimidation that Im the only complainer in 20 years, and assumptions that I use Clorox in my laundry is not true nor acceptable, and offering a cheaper product exchange of what seems to be the same inferior quality ink in question is inequitable. His prices are inexpensive and enticing, but Mr. Kwong Hoi Chengs business dealings are not pono (right).
