Rainbow Drive-In

Credit card only! 2.5% service charge. Restaurant was so tasty, traditional Hawaiian, and honestly very good gravy that wasn't too salty. Lunch plates were super reasonably priced, under $13, and came with two scoops of rice and Mac salad (or Cole slaw). Loco moco was a bit of a thin patty but tasted pretty decent. Pork cutlet lunch platter came with 4 thin cutlets, much more than I was expecting.Only one complaint is they didn't have cups for water, but we bought a cup for soda and had water from the soda machine. Not the best restaurant to sit and eat at as the atmosphere isn't the most pleasant and the seating is run down, but nice for getting food to go! Small free parking lot out back.

Two star review. Hella upset! Wait time was mento! Called a few times to try and do a phone order and nobody answers the phone.I arrived to the location and there's one person in front of me waiting to order food. After I placed my order of three plate lunches that's when they told me that it was a 20 minute wait. OK whatever. Scope out the employees and found that there was only one cook in the back and one cashier. What trip me out was after everybody ordered their food. The cashier/mananger just stood there waiting for food to bag or customers to come in. As the manager, run in the back and drop fries and chicken and help set up plates. Make sure your cook gets help because bruh "pua ting" the cook was doing EVERYTHING!!!There were three other groups waiting for their food before us, and then one after us. The group after us ordered just about the same as us but ended up getting their plates before me.Upon waiting, I decided to try and call their phone again to see if the phone lines worked made it ring. Called while waiting on our order. It works perfectly fine. Nobody answers.Got my order 27 min. Get to the front to get it. I asked for a bag and mngr looked at me like "8itchhhh!" Then I tell her my taters don't have gravy like I ordered. She looks and me with a stink face. Ughhh not my fault u guys forgot. Then she leaves me to bag the food my self. Ok. Ask for utensils and she's saying "but it's togo!" What does that mean?Anyways. Got to our car. Went to the beach. Tater tots was not worth it. It was so little for the price. However this locations boneless chicken w/gravy plate is one of the best places to get it from. Just gotta deal with some extras.

We live 'Ewa side and unfortunately our Rainbow Drive-In location closed down so when we ventured outside our bubble and went into town we figured we stop in to Rainbow Drive-In to grab a bite. This location off School Street offers parking behind the building on Houghtailing Street - there's about 5-6 stalls available. This visit we ordered only a loco loco and chili cheese fries as we had just missed breakfast by 3 mins! Inside is old, run down looking but offers ample seating. Important information: this location DOES NOT accept CASH! Cards only and there is a service fee.Overall, if you're hungry and there is no other place open, give 'em a try but I'd rather eat else where.

The inside of this place needs some serious love. We ordered the mix plate and not only was it a good value but was incredibly delicious, however, I was totally turned off to how dirty and run down the seating area was that it distracted from the quality of the food. Service was friendly and generally fast.

Not a good location or branch of the original. As soon as you step in the ceiling is leaking, there was only one server and one cook so the wait was long and it wasn't full or busy. The server was very nice and did her best, but went we ate our food. It was not anything as tasted various at the other locations. The Mac salad just tasted like Mayo and the beef was over cooked. My daughter's hamburger was dry and over done. The best thing in the restaurant we all enjoyed was the fries.

We usually always try to get lunch at Rainbow Drive In while we are on the island, and tried out this location on School St. For the first time. It was a little busy during the lunch hour but we just got in from the airport and we're down to grab a bite. It was... sad to see Rainbow Drive In In such a bad state, the walls and floor were dirty, some of the tables too, and there was two leaks from the roof near the front entrance. Despite this, our hunger decided we would ignore those obvious issues and pray the food was still as good as we've had at other locations... it wasn't. The Mac salad was purely overdressed mayo and pepper but no other flavor, meat was really dry, and service was just okay. Overall I'd skip this location and look up the reviews for the other spots before coming, we made that mistake.

The food was ok I ordered the hamburger steak not the best just a few patties cooked on the grill the gravy a little dull. The best thing I liked was the frozen strawberry slush with ice cream. The service was great the ambience is chill I'll try something else next time maybe I'll love it .

Proceeding from my meeting with my former coworkers at Liliha Square, I proposed to eat at a drive-in restaurant because I craved for the local lunch plates and saimin. It took them awhile to figure out what I was talking about. Hahaha. Not movie drive-in, y'all. Since this Rainbow Deive-in was the closest one to visit, we made our way here. My friend knew the fastest way to get there and parked at the parking lot with the back entrance. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a nice young lady at the cash register. It completely blew my mind. What was everyone talking about on Yelp? I ordered teri chicken plate and saimin. Yeah. I've been craving for those soupy noodles since I arrived in Honolulu. My friends were laughing at me because they don't eat that darn thing. Ok whateva. I found something interesting on the payment pad. I kept seeing 5% tips etc. I asked the cashier why do people tip them so low. She smiled and shrugged her shoulders. I believe she deserved more tips anyway. The service was better than I expected. Even better than Houston Chinatown, where I came from. Food was fresh and ono. They came out pretty quick as we kept chatting and not knowing when food came out. Restaurant was clean and right temperature. We left right before they closed for the day.

It was our first time at the Kalihi store. It was empty, the staff was nice. The menu is small but adequate. Lots of favorites on there, not expensive compared to other places. It's located on the corner of School St. and Houghtailing St. near the bus stops.

Rainbows is maybe 6 blocks from my house. I've been there about 5-6 times usually for the slush. The food is cheap and consistent. We stopped there for breakfast this morning and my husband got a fried rice plate that was huge! Next time I would buy that for 2 of us and get a side order of eggs.
