Rainbow Drive-In

I'm a Rainbow Drive-In devotee. I graduated from 'Iolani and went to the Kapahulu Rainbow's almost every day for lunch my junior and senior years. I love Rainbows so much, it's usually my first stop when I fly home to Oahu.That being said, I usually stop by this location when on this side of the island and I need to get boneless chicken or one of the daily specials like shoyu chicken.It's not the same as going to the original, but it satisfies the urge. The service is fast and friendly and usually fairly fast.SInce it's inside of the Pearl Ridge Mall food court, it doesn't have the same charm as the original, but it's brightly lit and clean.

Ugh! I hear so much about Rainbow and I had their food too, but at their Kaimuki location. The Pearlridge location, was NOT the same. I wanted Hamburger steak and since HB steak is such a local favorite and having eaten at the Kaimuki location, I figured Pearlridge would be just as good. Nope! Two scoops of rice and their Mac salad(yummy) and three beef patties that were out of a package not homemade not seasoned and tough.Three 3 inch patties, bland.A local restaurant that cuts flavor for speedy service. I would have waited if I knew the HB steak was good. And recommend by friends and other customers.

Best roast pork ever. So much food for $13. A classic and will always be my go to. Only on Sundays/tuesdays/Thursdays I think.

The food is very tasty, the prices are very reasonable, and the portion size is big too. I usually get the mixed plate, or the loco Moco, or the chop steak. All of these dishes are good. The service can take some time due to high volume of orders. The ambiance is normal...nothing too special. The counter is clean and the soda dispenser was clean.

Haven't been here for a while...wanted to order their Shoyu Chicken that's available on certain days (forgot what days) but knew Monday's was one of them. My husband ordered his favorite Boneless Chicken Plate with gravy.Shoyu Chicken: This includes 3 pieces of chicken, 2 scoops rice and a scoop of mac salad. The chicken was so tender and had a lot of flavor...really enjoyed this!Boneless Chicken Plate with gravy: There were 2 and a half pieces of breaded chicken thighs with only gravy on the top piece of the chicken, 2 scoops rice and a scoop of mac salad. The chicken was dry and over cooked with gravy only on the top chicken and hardly any on the side for the 2nd chicken. This never happened when we ordered this at the Kapahulu location! According to their commercial, they say "GRAVY ALL OVER"! Nope, didn't happen! Is this considered false advertisement?! Their menu indicates "with gravy"...they will charge extra if you want it on the rice but it doesn't make sense to only add it to the top chicken. My husband ate the top piece and threw away the rest. I ended up giving him 2 out of the 3 pieces of shoyu chicken.Shoyu chicken and fast service...thumbs up!Boneless Chicken Plate with gravy...TERRIBLE! I will never order this again at this location AND I'm also guessing I'm not going to patronize this location due to this incident and other orders in the past that wasn't up to par which is sad because they're located so close to where I live BUT there's a choke load of eating places in Aiea to choose from so I'm good!

This Rainbow Drive Inn is located in the Pearlridge Center. We usually go to the one located in Kapahulu. We were in the area and I wanted to pick up some gift cards from this establishment. Parking was easy to find at the center. I was surprised because it's the holiday times and parking is usually difficult to find. You go up the escalator and take another escalator up to the food court level. Pretty easy to find. It's located across from Consolidated theater. I ordered the gift cards and the famous ice cream slush to go. Yummy. The slush was FREE! For every $50 gift card amount that you order, you get a card for a free small ice cream slush! What a nice surprise. Service was fast and efficient here. Soft drinks are refillable (not at the Kapahulu one lol). It's located in a food court that has many tables and chairs available to you. It's well lit but a little on the noisy side.

Visited this particular location a couple of times as there is comfortable seating and air conditioning..haha! The first visit we ordered the boneless chicken w/gravy, chili w/rice & slush float. Second visit was also boneless chicken w/gravy, slush float but also had the French fries w/gravy. Everything always comes out quickly, piping hot and so delicious! The slush float always hits the spot to end the meal. Can't wait to go back!

Same name, same menu, same friendly and quick service but sure doesn't taste the same..... I only tried the shoyu chicken but it was so junk I prolly won't be trying anything else from here. Sauce was way too salty and thick. Must not be the same recipe as the original location.

Stopped to get a couple of sandwiches from Rainbow drive-in & had a hankering for their BBQ pork sandwich. This was on Thursday, 11/16/23, about 1/1:30PM. Located in downtown Pearlridge, 4th floor food court. Can't miss it, right by the monorail entrance & elevator, to the immediate right of the stairs/elevator. Since it was post lunch rush, the entire place was pretty empty & no lines anywhere. I was greeted by a nice employee who promptly took my order. I've been to this location a few times since they opened in 2019. They have a simple menu of local plate lunches, sandwiches, burgers, & different specials daily. Their menu is not as extensive as the Kapahulu location but there is a decent amount of choices to select from.BBQ pork sandwich - it was ok, not the best I've had. The bun they use for the sandwiches is pretty good, not the typical flavor of a hamburger bun. More like a potato bun & soft. Price was $6.95 and besides the bun & pork, it had lettuce & mayo. They do give lots of meat for what you pay, not too fatty but it was so salty, probably from the BBQ/teriyaki sauce they use. The 1 piece of lettuce was soggy from too much mayo & it became such the messy sandwich to eat. I probably won't get that again.Boneless chicken sandwich - This was also $6.95. I don't remember getting this before so somehow I thought it was just going to be unbreaded, skinless. It was fully breaded & I thought I wasn't going to like it but it was a pleasant surprise. It was pretty good! Well-seasoned, very tasty, not too salty like the BBQ pork. They put 2 huge pieces of chicken that overflowed the bun, along with 1 piece of soggy lettuce & too much mayo. It was definitely worth the price I paid. I would order this again but with no lettuce & easy mayo or mayo on the side. So ono!I didn't wait long for my order, only a few minutes. Rainbow Drive-In is also known for its slush float. I've had these before & they are ono! Besides their regular options of soft drinks, they also carry lilikoi, fruit punch, & green river (Hardee's brand) out of the drink dispenser. They do give good customer service & have reasonable prices with quantity they do not skimp on. I do have to agree with other yelpers though, that the quality of their food has certainly come down.

Hamburger steak meat looks like a smash burger and tuff...is dat homemade patties?Mix plate wuz gud 2day
