Every time I'm in Haleiwa I stop at the boardrider's club to pick up and aloha shirt for my husband. My husband is from the mainland and so he is a little picky about his aloha shirts. I've sound some really amazing subtle aloha shirts here. The fabric is so soft and he loves wearing them. The selection of girls clothing is also good, but Roxy sizes run small so I usually don't find items for myself.

Nothing really is very desirable here. Just basic stuff not a big deal. I don't even know how they stay in business to be frankly honest. It's been there for a long time. Don't know any local people that shop there. It's not a Surf shop. It's a T-shirt shop with a few boards in there / don't waste your time pass it by. Matter of fact, pass the entire marketplace by - the entire place sucks now. Nothing but overpriced, black pearls, and some knickknacks that you're gonna throw away anyways and just shitty food..

We drove from waipio to Haleiwa. Staff were very friendly and courteous. I was disappointed that there were no clothes with the welcome to Haleiwa town sign. I didn't want to go to the other surf store on the other end of Haleiwa.

Fashionable "surfing" and beach attire with lots of unique Hawaiian prints. Shorts, t-shirts, long sleeve shirts, dresses, bathing suits, men's, women, children - they have you covered, literally! The style can easily take you from the beach to dinner or playing golf. Definitely on the pricy side but this is expected From this chain. Also carry some accessories like tote bags, sunglasses, backpacks, and caps.

I love Quiksilver prints, and even more so because you can find unique Hawaiian prints at this store in Hale'iwa.I bought a pair of boardshorts and t-shirts both w/ unique prints. I wore the shorts while I was in Hawaii and really liked the feel of the new material. The staff are super friendly and helpful. I like how the boardshorts are arranged by size and easy to find. This shop is a must stop if you are in Hale'iwa. BTW, if you stop in Waimea, guess whose logo is on the lifeguard tower?

Getting To The EventNot sure if it would happen this year. Looked grim after it wax cxld a few times but we hoped. My partner, Lady L, text me almost midnight it's on. After discussing a possible plans, weighing out the odds for success, I give in to a green light. Eddie would go, so would we.Last time the Eddie went was in 2009. Here it is the 31st year, would this be only the 9th to go through. It took us 3 hours to prepare, gather our gear and head out. Made a quick stop at Zippy's. Thank goodness drive thru was open. Order the zip packs. The smell of the fresh food made me dig into half my breakfast zip pack. Resistance is futile. Now I know how Captain Picard felt.To our surprise there was no traffic. With hardly any cars on the road, the drive was quick. We were excited and before we knew it I was parking the car in Waimea Valley for $20 bucks. Thought I'd rather be safe than parking in the streets. It's a short walk across the street to the bay. When we got to the other side, I was thinking the beach must crowded because there's o much people camped out her by the road. The security stopped us at the gate letting us know no one was going through until 5:00am when it opens. Not even to pee? Nope, not even to pee. Seeing that we were at the front, a prime location to rush the gate, we decided to camp out by the pavement and go to sleep. I was deep when Lady L woke me up while I was getting trampled on that they are letting people in. We gathered our stuff quickly and headed on.Being here for tournaments before I knew where the surfers would position themselves to catch the waves. As we're going in I kept telling Lady L go to the left side. When we finally hit the beach, we were on the left side of the tower facing the ocean. You could see the big waves crashing on the shore under the full moon. Awesome. We weren't at the front but that could be rectified easily, later. For now, plop our mat down, deal with the cold and try to go to sleep. We were not dressed warm enough for sure. The EventKevin Okimoto opened up the event playing and singing Hawaiian classic music for our early entertainment. The songs, just like the mood around the beach, was spiritual. It felt like a thread going through all of us connecting, sewing our energies together. There was a mutual feeling of happiness, togetherness, of one spirit. The heebeejeebees was going around.A day of chaos and a day of heroics is what this day would be remembered as. It was great to see all these surfers willing to ride these big waves. Scary and not easy. Listening to them, to what they are going to do, you knew there was fear being hidden. I say it's better to be scared to keep you sharp. The main thought of it all is to go out there and have fun, don't do anything crazy, watch for each other and help each other if necessary. This is not about winning the $75K for first place. And there isn't a better way to commemorate Eddie than that. That's how he thought and that's how he lived. There was so much action. At times it was hard believing what we were seeing. It kept the crowd focused with their full attention. Many times you would see a surfer start and just couldn't get in the right position or get enough speed or simply get over taken forcing them to abandon the wave and getting dropped. The one that hurt to watch is when Eddie's brother, Clyde took a wave and went down from the top. It was a long drop. The dude is 66years old taking like a 50foot dive. We all l hoped he was okay. And he was thank goodness. What an amazing tribute to his brother. Another time, there were 5 jet skis caught by a monster wave that popped out of nowhere. They were successful turning their skis around but had to full throttle it to avoid the wave. With nowhere to go, they all ended up safe high on the shore. It was amazing to see. I don't think that's happened before. Another time, 2 surfers maybe about 20 ft apart caught the same wave but some how the surfer on the left ended going to his right in the air almost tearing the other surfer apart who was smart enough to dodge but giving up his position for his safety. Congrats to John John Florence, local boy, for taking the title this year. Congrats to Clyde for well representing his brother and the event. Thanks to Quicksilver for continuing to run this event in honor of a man who can look up to and emulate.Eddie went. So did we.

What better place than Quicksilver to get your diggs in NorthShore. While in Hawaii, let's not look like a big poser... gear up and get out on the water. A quick trip to Hawaii, ill prepared from the winter in Chicago, I went to see the family and lo and behold the surfer's maven of gear. I new sweatshirt and flipflops to go and i'm ready to hit the beach and see what will come of the day.The staff were friendly and I was able to get what I needed without a care in the world. Mahalo!
