Private Chef North Shore

Private chef John Wesley Adams cooked a special 70th birthday dinner for my mom and 11 of us (8 adults, 3 kids) when we were staying at a condo rental in Ko Olina on Oahu. (By the way, although his website is called "Private Chef North Shore," he really cooks all over the island!) We had a great experience with John. Not only was he affordable -- all the other private chefs I called in Oahu wouldn't cook for us within the ballpark figure I had in mind -- he was very flexible with the menu, recommending what's in season to modify the sample menus on his website. We were able to put together an island-inspired menu of scallop, asparagus, opah, and lilikoi pie. He arrived a few hours before our scheduled dinner time and set right to work. The food was delicious and he left the kitchen cleaner than when he arrived.One thing to note - because John worked alone and didn't bring a sous chef or servers, this wasn't the kind of full-service catering that other private chefs may offer (at an additional cost, of course). He also used the pots and pans and whatever plates and utensils were available in our rental unit, so make sure that you have enough coverage for your party. I've used a more formal catering service on another island for a similar family trip, and this was definitely more laid-back/family-style than the other one. Either way, we really enjoyed having John cook us a wonderful, delicious meal while we lounged on our lanai overlooking the sunset and the beautiful Ko Olina bay.

BLEW US AWAY!!! Rented a beach house for 10 ion North Shore. Found John on line. Took a chance. Right from there he was great! Helpful tips about the area and such. Came over and served one of the best meals we had ever had! Tuna and sushi aps from market Fresh fish caught that day. Chicken, beef with chi churri I still dream about! We had him back 3 days later for 40 people!! Even better. Made Hawaiian pork that was CRAZY good! Pro, Nice, Regionally spot on, cleaned up, put away left overs..... A Dream! And no more expensive per person than any nice restaurant. Next trip back we will hire John EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! Get this guy!!!15 stars out of 5

Chef John cooks the best food on Oahu! He has cooked dinners for my friends and family when they are visiting from the mainland and every time we need to make the occasion even more special, we hire John! He's not only fun and friendly, but also cooks the most amazing local dishes that will leave you talking about his food for days! If you're in the area, I highly recommend Chef John for any occasion.

We rented a beachfront home on Kailua Beach for our 10th wedding anniversary (we're from California) with 8 other guests. Months beforehand I started corresponding with John about the menu and all of the allergies/special requests/etc. He was the most upbeat and can-do person I have met in a long time. He was almost too good to be true! When we arrived and actually met, I loved him from the get-go. He was totally professional and brought all of his ingredients/cooking tools/etc. so that it was a total luxury for all involved. He worked effortlessly (no drama) and prepared two dinners for us that were far superior to any restaurant we had been to on the island...including Alan Wong's!! (sorry Alan!). Each food item was deliciously prepared and beautifully presented. He is an experienced professional chef...so the sky's the limit in terms of what he's able to prepare!He has a great personality that is not intrusive to the guests but he's very open to chatting with them if they're hanging around the kitchen. He also cleans up everything and leaves the kitchen spotless!! Next time, we're going to have John for every night we're there for sure!!!Really can't say enough about him...as you can probably tell!
