If possible I would rate it 0 stars. My daughter was there for almost 6 months. She enjoyed going there till she transitioned into the toddler class. She gradually showed signs of withdrawing, getting anxious, angry and difficult, and finally terror when I'd drop her off. Within 2 weeks of starting I pulled her out because NO ONE could give me a good explanation of her behavior change and my gut instinct told me SOMEONE was treating her wrong when she was there. No one came forward.I didn't want to pursue it any further as there are good employees there, but not good enough if they weren't willing to stick up for the children when something wrong was going on. Maybe that person is no longer there, but I just wanted parents who are thinking of sending their children here to be EXTREMELY WARY. I CANNOT EXPRESS THIS ENOUGH.My daughter transitioned well into another albeit more costly program, BUT at least its SAFE, she LOVES going there, she LOOKS FORWARD to going, AND the program is known for its QUALITY education.

Being a military family is not easy, however having to transition your child to a daycare facility because of your work schedule and school schedule is nerve recking. I do not trust many people to care for my children, however, I am forever grateful that all of the Aunties (staff) have helped us make Hawaii home and they definitely have a lot of love for the children, as well as many educational activities, family events, and most important the curriculum is very good. My child loves the aunties, and so do I. Being that the military bases are always overflowing and the waitlist is extreme, I thank Kama'aina Kids, if it was not for them my career and training would not be progressing as it is today. Mahalo for all of your support.

So my son has been going here for about a year...at first he liked going to school but now we r sending him elsewhere because he constantly came home with bruises and bites and started cussing. He would get hurt there and i had to call them up to ask what had happened. Plus the kid that was hurting my son was the person in charge's kid...im guessing thats y they never called me to let me know what happened...wish i couldve pulled him out earlier but because of our scholarship situation i wasnt able to.

In light of the education referendum that was defeated, I feel that it is helpful to write a review for a good organization that tries it's best to help our keiki. Here's the good. Our keiki has different breaks compared to the mainland that has all of June/ July/ August. They have a great opportunity to keep keiki involved in learning and expanding their horizons that otherwise would not be broadened but kept complacent by sitting just watching tv. Keiki get enough screen time as they are calling it now. But Kamaaina Kids really helps get keiki engaged and active through play and learning when not in school proper. All of our communities need different organization to help our littlest ones be able to learn and grow - outside the home to be able to get ready for in building schools. There are tons of children- especially boys that get mommy sick and worried when it is time to go to kindergarten for example and have to go away for a while. This is so traumatic usually because the parents have not taken their children to opportunities like Kamaaina for short term trips away from the Ohana so that it is not so stressful going for longer time periods like school. Socialization is soooooo important to the social health and well being of our keiki at such a critical age. New info-Early Childhood Education is organized curriculum from Federal DOE that includes English and Math to prepare for K that is regulated like Head Start and Early Head Start.Preschool is well- school setting by people other than the parents that is before real schooling. Some parents consider it day care. Not that learning can't happen- children learn all the time at that age, but it is not considered mandated curriculum. Why is it important? The difference comes down to how much responsibility is involved. The department of education is responsible for the "commons" things that communities agree it can not organize by itself. Other commons include highways, prisons, the FAA, and other things that in general communities need government to establish for the common good so that we can find life, liberty, and pursue happiness. So again- you can ask, why is this important. As far as I read it, the ballot initiative asked can state money go towards private preschools. Until our HI constitution allows for a savings account from taxes, nothing in our 'commons' is safe let alone spending more money on things that are not covered in the current commons that are not yet funded. Please do not get me wrong, Kamaaina Kids has a valuable and important part in afterschool programs and week long fun educational activities but it doesn't teach first grade yet and hold to current accountability standards that federal DOE holds for real school. And they shouldn't- after school programs are supposed to be fun, parents and communities and grants can pay for these activities. Or time can be donated for afterschool sports. This is a quite big issue with many players, and I am only an independent makua that has a small opinion. Kamaaina does a great job of caring for our keiki in outdoor sporting events and science field trips. It is wonderful to be able to have options for what to do in the time im-between school semesters. It seems that sometimes there is 1 adult to 9 keiki- that is a wonderful ratio and I wish our HI DOE had ratios like that and then we would have better reading and math scores. Again- visit the program for yourself and see that there are great activities for our Keiki. http://www.kamaainakids.com/LocationKama'aina Kids Corporate Office156 Hamakua Dr. Suite CKailua, HI 96734Ph: (808) 262-4538Toll Free: (888) 345-4374Fx: (808) 261-2051About UsKama'aina Kids is a private, non-profit, multi-service organization dedicated to serving children and their families through quality childcare programs. This is my daughters second daycare in 3 months. She was previously at a military base CDC and she hated it there, after a week and a half I pulled her out. She Cried every single day I dropped her off. After her third day here she didn't cry, fuss, nag while being dropped off. She loves it here! She loves all of her teachers. I couldn't have asked for a better daycare for her. I appreciate the daily updates on the Procare app.

I'd like to say that the staff at Kama'aina Kids are, for the most part, nice and sweet. However, I feel they should work on their communication a little better. I dropped off my kid everyday thinking that when I pick her up I am able to be briefed about how my child's day went (ie, what she ate, what she did, if she was in trouble, etc). Instead, I get to the center, with my child running to me and one of the teachers telling me to just "sign out". With a child going to any day care center, parents should be entitled to know how their child was doing. There was a point in time where, for a week, my kid was crying every morning because she didn't want to attend the center. Turns out she was being bullied by one of the kids there. Do the day care providers keep an eye out for these bullies or do they just ignore it because they feel it's normal kid behavior? Also, it kills me sometimes when I ask my kid what she ate for breakfast and replies to me with "Rice Krispy Treats". Rice Krispy Treats are NOT breakfast foods. Anyway, to sum it up.. This place really isn't a good nurturing day care. They literally just watch your kids for you and I feel they don't care for their well being. Maybe it's really different, but from my point of view.. from the times I've seen them in action, I never felt that my $800 is worth the care that is being given to my child. I'm glad she no longer attends that place.
