My cousin who flew in from Minnesota For her destination wedding wanted a a tropical haku and maile lei. ! It's a good thing I shopped around because although many of the lei shops carry similar items, they can vary considerably in their inventory, price, and customer service! Thank you YE friends Paul C and Nadine C for your reviews which guided me! Pauahi is tiny compared to others but reasonable, friendly, and gracious, a stark contrast from another shop down the street on the corner where a female dragon nearly bit my head off for inadvertently opening the refrigerator door. This place will also let you take photos if you are shopping for others like I was. (The other place makes you FaceTime.) They were very patient about letting us select the flowers and colors to order for the haku. Good to order ahead of time to ensure you get what you want for a special occasion. They want 3 days notice. Remember bigger is not always better! I will be giving them my business in the future as much as possible!

Flower Garland (lei) from Chinatown, Honolulu, Hawaii...I needed some flower garlands for special occasions:1. My mom's birthday on Friday (tomorrow)2. My friend's daughter's graduation on the mainland on Sunday Paul C. and other friends had mentioned Pauahi Leis and Flowers for their quality and reasonable prices. I thought that I should give them a try. I luckily found metered street parking nearby...It just so happened that Paul called me while I was at the shop! What a coincidence! I told him my situation and he really helped me out.For my mom, Paul suggested the Christina style orchid lei over the spiral orchid lei. Both are colorful and non-fragrant. He said that the Christina is more elegant and won't roll off the shoulders like a spiral lei would. Good point! For my friend's daughter, I wanted a lei po'o (head lei - also known as a crown lei). We chose the freshest one - the one that was just made. We also selected orchids over bougainvillea because orchids are sturdier.UCSD's colors are blue and yellow. There are no blue flowers, so, that's one less option to consider. The ceremony is on Sunday and this was Thursday... Hmmm... Three days away... Let's pray hard that the orchids will survive the plane ride! I'll keep misting and refrigerating the flowers as much as possible!Service was local style - with Aloha! Even though they are super busy in the cozy shop (other customers were present) AND during this frantic graduation time, they stopped and assisted me in a kind manner!Note: mom looked great with her Christina lei! She stored it in the refrigerator at home for use again on Sunday at church!

When I worked in Chinatown, I often passed by Pauahi Leis and Flowers (PLF) almost daily. I'd see several staff sitting near the small front table stringing fresh leis. Just the other week, I was invited to my niece's white coat ceremony that was postponed until this year due to the pandemic. To control the number of attendees and social distancing, each student had limited tickets, so I was honored with the invite.I was born and raised in Chinatown, so I am very familiar with this area. I am aware of the vendors, which includes lei shops, and I am quite knowledgeable with flowers. I am also born and raised in the stereotypical Chinese family where we would rather shower our loved ones with food over flowers. However, the local boy in me wanted to do something special for my niece to acknowledge her accomplishment. When I worked in the floral industry 5 years ago, that's when I first found out about white coat ceremony. Families and loved ones would order flowers and for females I noticed many would preorder a lei po'o, or as some call them "floral crowns." My niece has previously worn a lei po'o before, but I wanted something special.Step in Yelp Elite extraordinaire Nadine C. (aka Auntie). She recently came to PLF as she hand-carried some flowers to San Diego for a graduation. She posted a photo of this lei po'o purchased at PLF that was stunning. This photo made me stop by PLF one day to inquire. I saw some live samples and was impressed of the quality and craftsmanship. Due to the busy season, they do not take orders but was advised to stop by that day as they'll have a selection to choose from.On the day of the event, I woke up early and made my way to Chinatown and was pleasantly surprised as PLF had over 10 lei po'o to select from. I'm impartial to green, as it's my favorite color. I ended up choosing this exotic lei po'o that had lime green and orange cymbidium orchids and miniature anthuriums, along with foliage.I kept the lei po'o in the refrigerator prior to the event. During transport, I kept it in a non-insulated eco-friendly bag. This lei po'o traveled and held very well. When the ceremony ended and we congregated outside to greet the students, I placed the lei po'o on my niece and it suited her. She wore the lei po'o very well and stood out in the crowd. I saw some of her female classmates also wore lei po'o but they were your typical dendrobium orchids, mini roses and baby's breath combination.Overall, I am very pleased with PLF as I got more than what I was anticipating. Compared to other lei shops in Chinatown, PLF may not have an extensive selection than others, but their customer service and product quality really came through for me. You will need to confirm if they take orders as I do understand they decline orders during the busy season but if not, trek down to Chinatown in the morning and make your way over to PLF - - the early bird gets the worm.

Of the many lei shops in Chinatown, I keep going to Pauahi Leis & Flowers. Why? Well, they lei makers are extremely nice. Second and maybe more important, their pricing is one of the best around. Third and maybe the most important is their flowers are fresh. Go after 8:30 am giving them time to restock their reefers. They have the most creative leis; other than their normal orchid, tuberose or cigar leis. Yup; you can find some pretty stuff there. You could call them ahead of time to make sure what they have and they will quote you what the leis are going for at the time of your call. Parking is slim to none. (It's downtown Chinatown, what did you expect?) I always have someone drive me and wait while I run in to get my leis. They are located at the corner of Pauahi and Mauna Kea Streets.Give them a try!

I went to Pauahi Lei and Flowers to order a maile lei and a haku lei for my wedding. It was recommended by my boss,, to go there. She orders her haku lei from there all the time. The store is run by cute Filipino ladies who were watching k-dramas. LOL. I placed my order for a Maile lei with Pikake strands, and a haku with the color of my choice. I placed my order a week in advance. On the day I was scheduled to pick up, my order was ready. I also purchased 7 lei for my guests. Everything was so beautiful I had so many compliments on my haku lei. It was so beautiful!I believe this lei stand is one of the cheapest I've been to. I spent $25 on my haku. Other places were going to charge me $45-$50. I'm glad I went here. I'll be back for my lei needs!

The service is excellent! When I got to the door, she was fitting a lady with lei po'o. It was so pretty. Well made with orchids but the color just popped!I saw all the lei in the reefer and couldn't decide because I wasn't expecting the variety. The lady was very helpful and took out a few for me to see. They were all in awesome condition. The pricing is so reasonable. I was able to get 3 gorgeous lei! One was a vibrant Ilima! All for less than $90. I will be back to this flower shop!!
