Papa Ole's

Papa Ole's local hotspot out in Laie. Order and pickup at the same takeout window. Then take your onolicious food to the beach or... find seats st the picnic tables set up in this outdoor strip mall.What we had: an assortment of plates shared between the four of us. The number one choice was the kalbi ribs and the pulehu ribs and the ribs combo plates (notice a theme here?). Minis costing $13 and full plate of ribs $22. Get the full size! The "J" combo consisted of pulehu ribs and mayo shrimp. All of us said we would pass on the shrimp. Nice surprise was the locomoco or "Aina moco". You some of the most delicious and juicy hamburger patties smothered in onions and mushrooms served with either brown or mushroom gravy. Moco topped with three eggs cooked the way you want it. For us it was over easy. Would definitely get again.Located in the same strip mall as Longs Drugs. Order your food first then walk over to Longs to get whatever snacks, drinks, and other shopping you might want done. By the time you are finished, your food should be ready!Super delicious I am already plotting my next visit. Whichever, do get there soon. Future plans beyond the end of the year so far unknown.

Papa Ole's is a bit out of the way but it's well worth it! We got the special J combo to share which includes pulehu ribs and mayo shrimp. They have a couple tables in front of the restaurant. They don't have any indoor seating so it's just the tables in the front and it's cash only. The ribs were huge and very good. Pulehu ribs were tender and had good flavor. The mayo shrimp was very tasty. Normally, shrimp is just cooked with garlic butter but I liked that it had a creamy base because of the mayo. The plate was very filling. My mom, sister and I were all able to share it. The service was good. If I happen to be near by, I'll definitely stop by.

The Babe™ and I stopped here for breakfast.A word of warning: they only take cash which isn't necessarily a bad thing because we probably would have kept eating through lunch.The food was wonderful. Simple, flavourful, without being pretentious.We ordered macadamia nut pancakes and loco moco. The pancakes were delicious, light yet substantial. The coconut syrup was wonderful. Not overly sweet but very flavourful. I found myself wanting a straw to slurp up the last remaining drops.And what can one say about loco moco.... One of the ultimate comfort foods in the world. The eggs were perfect, runny yet completely cooked. The gravy was just the perfect amount and flat out awesome. We quickly ate, only making yummy sounds for conversation.There is outdoor seating which worked well as we finished just before the rain came down.We're already figuring out when we'll return.It's phenomenally great food.Absolutely amazing.

Made to order, local style breakfast and plate lunches to go in Hau'ula Kai Shopping Center. Lots of free parking. Best to call your orders in advance. Otherwise, expect to sit on the benches and listen for your name to be called. We waited patiently for 45 mins. Cash only. Choice of mini or regular, mac salad or tossed salad. Courteous and friendly customer service. Even the worker asked us if we wanted brown or mushroom gravy. We ordered all mini plates. Two thumbs up for the rice. Ordinary mac salad with carrots and mayo. Garlic chicken: Five small pieces tasted dry and light on sauce. Not what I expected. Hamburger steak w/ mushroom gravy: We love how hamburger patties tasted homemade and thicker in height. Mushroom gravy tasted alright. We think we would've enjoyed hamburger steak more with brown gravy. Teriyaki chicken: Generous portions. Marination used for chicken tasted delicious! I'm not a huge fan of teriyaki sauce. However, this one hit the spot. Our son enjoyed his lunch. We'll give it another shot for breakfast, or hamburger steak with brown gravy if past eleven o'clock, and plantation iced tea. Very casual and chillax!

Papa Ole's was the second stop on my husband's North Shore food tour, and we were excited to try their famous kalbi. As a local favorite, this spot is well-known for its generously thick cuts of meat, so we went with their signature kalbi plate.Quick tip: they are cash-only. This was something we didn't know ahead of time, so we're only able to grab a mini kalbi plate. It came with a scoop of rice, a classic mac salad, and, of course, the kalbi itself. The cut was impressively thick, definitely the thickest we've had on the island. The marinade was on the milder side, slightly sweet and salty. While delicious, the kalbi was a bit chewy for my taste. I still prefer a thinner cut with a bolder marinade.Overall, Papa Ole's was still good. The staff was friendly and the service was fast. Though I've also heard it can get busy here so it's better to phone in your orders. We'll be back for sure, probably with a little more cash next time to try other plates they offer.

We made it back again! I was so looking forward to revisiting Papa Ole's. The restaurant is still a takeout only place but it seems that they now have outdoor tables.Lunch plate of the Kalbi Ribs with mac salad & two scoops of white rice. They used to recommend you calling ahead because it took about 40+min to cook your food. It seems they are faster and now, there is no need to call ahead. We tried, but phone kept disconnecting. We ordered and it was only a 6+ minute wait. The Kalbi Ribs came out medium rare and it was so good. Flavorful marinade, cooked perfectly with charring to add smokiness. Delicious! The mac salad was creamy but not as peppery as last time. I asked about the Peanut Butter Rolls. Unfortunately, she didn't have it (and it seemed like they wouldn't have it for awhile).We had to eat in the car...sitting outside, there were too many flies landing on you and your food. Yuck!

Every time I go to this side of the island, I always say I need to eat here and I always end up at the Kahuku Sugar Mill for food instead. Saturday was the day that I ate there after 100 times skipping it. The shop was ran as cash only so do have some when you eat here otherwise you'll be like me and think you're short and order a mini!I ordered the kalbi plate. This was the thickest kalbi I've ever seen from a kalbi plate on island. The flavor was good as well. Just one thing for me is if this fell off the bone easy and was soft, this would be the perfect kalbi hands down.Either way, I enjoyed the mini plate and wished I had more. Price was good for the portion served.

Peanut butter rolls. WHAT IN THE HEAVENS. so so so goodThis was one of our favorite spots in Hawaii. We only found out about it from a local we met in line for a donkatsu spot, and we're so glad he recommended it to us (thank you Stephen!). The short ribs were thicc and juicy. The roasted pork was soft and flavorful. And the mac salad was perfection. Twenty bucks for a big plate and worth every penny. We literally rearranged our entire itinerary to fit this place in, and am so glad we did. This would definitely be one spot we would definitely revisit when we come back!

Me and my husband love to eat here. Pulehu ribs and crispy fries are our favorite. Huge portions. We always call ahead to order. Cash only.

Food was AMAZINGGG!!! Loco moco was a bit salty for my taste but the short ribs and shrimp was fireeeee!!! One of the BEST short ribs i had in Oahu!!
