O2 Martial Arts Academy

I was on island for a long weekend, a training partner who previously trained at O2; reached out to see if I could drop-in on an early morning open mat. I was stoked that I got approved. Everyone was extremely welcoming. The level of Jiu-jitsu was very high and although everyone was going after it, there was no one trying to hurt anyone or any big egos. I'm very thankful, I was allowed to experience this wonderful academy and hope to roll with these guys again the next time I'm on Oahu.

The students and instructors at O2 are incredible! They offer a variety of classes and everyone is so friendly and welcoming. I joined about two years ago for kickboxing (PJ, Chris, and Justin are incredible), but really appreciated that the membership allows you to divide up your classes however you like. I ended up taking up jiu jitsu and recently started kali escrima with Ian - my only regret is that I didn't start sooner.Marital arts is such a humbling experience, and walking into a new gym can be so intimidating. O2 is perfect for every experience level from the individual who has only seen action movies to the high level grappler and those who spar regularly. As a whole, they call it the O2 fam and it truly feels like it! The gym is actually owned by Mike and Chris, two brothers, who truly give it a family feel. They, and all the coaches, are amazing at what they do and lead their classes with expertise and a lot of humor. And as another reviewer mentioned, this is definitely somewhere where you have to check your ego at the door because it's a fam and we have to take care of each other.O2 is on the second floor above Goodwill along Kamehameha. There's plenty of parking and the lot entrance is on Hekaha. During the pandemic they kept the gym open and prioritized membership safety with online classes then grappling with dummies and working in pods. They offer times throughout the day and on weekends. The schedule is a little modified because of COVID but definitely check them out!

OMG! This place was amazing! Oops! Ok let me start again. The people here are amazing! Very informative and willing to help you to be sure you understand why you have to do what you have to do to protect yourself! Glad that I had a male partner and telling him to grab me like you mean it was great! Ok hurtful but great! Only because you don't know how much pressure your attacker will be having on you! Although the more pressure he gave me was better to know how much I have to get out of it.We all should learn a thing or two about how to defend ourselves. Especially now and how his world is coming to. Thank you YELP for another great event that made me more knowledgeable!!

If you want the self-confidence that comes with knowing that you can take care of yourself and your family, O2 is for you; there is a priority on instruction on practical and tested self-defense techniques.If you're a high level grappler looking for advanced belts to roll with, O2 is for you; multiple purple/brown/black belts in most classes ensure there is no shortage of quality teammates to learn from and with. If you've never played a competitive sport in your life and you only wrestle with your lunch, O2 is for you; everyone there from the instructors to the other students look out for each other and have created a non-intimidating environment that is the perfect entry for someone who just wants to try it out.O2 is not for people with a chip on their shoulder or who just want to see how many guys they can tap, see par (3) above; seriously, it's a family where everyone takes care of each other and if you're a jerk you won't be happy. Other stuff: classes at lunch, evening, and weekends. Kids programs so you can bully-proof your munchkins, clean environment!

Thanks to O2MAA and Yelp for coordinating a special self-defence class here. It was highly enjoyable and served a lot of practical lessons everyone should have a basic working knowledge of to get away from potentially dangerous situations. The environment was relaxed and clean while the instructors were very welcoming, friendly and respectful. Mike, Chris and their staff took into consideration the comfort level of everyone there. They offer Jiu-Jitsu, Kali Escrima and Kickboxing classes. Really thinking about signing up to enhance what that basic class taught us.

Very easy to find. Located directly across the Waimalu Shopping Center, right above Goodwill. Parking is limited, especially between the hours of 4-6 p.m. weekdays. The tenants are sticklers about parking, so make sure you park in a place that's not directly in front of another business. Safest place to park is at the ends of the parking lot. O2 Martial Arts Academy offer a variety of classes for all ages including Gracie Jiujitsu, boxing, kickboxing, Kali/Escrima, and wrestling. The facility was recently renovated with a bigger space and new mats and equipment. The facility is always clean and lacks that sweaty, workout smell, WHICH IS GOOD!

O2MAA has classes that teach the fundamental and technical skills needed for self defense but by far the best part of O2MAA has to be the instructors and fellow teammates. The environment is open and friendly for you to learn at your own pace while learning new techniques. Everyone wants to not only help you but get to know you. This isn't a place to pop in for a workout and leave. You'll gain confidence and genuine friendships while learning martial arts.

Awesome instructors and a great learning environment for both children and adults. Also, one of the best wrestling clubs for kids in Hawaii!

Best place to learn a variety of Martial arts. Brazilian jiu jitsu, Kickboxing, Escrima. Safe, clean, friendly, family oriented, good values. This academy has the capacity to teach a beginner with no prior experience to seasoned black belt competitors. Instructors are friendly, experienced, have a sense of humor, and love teaching the arts to all. Doesn't matter if you're a white belt, black belt, male, female, MMA fighter or not, there's place on the mat for everyone. First class is free. You can borrow a gi too.
