Lucious green park in a residential area. I don't think it's quite as famous, but it's a favorite of mine since it's not as crowded and the park itself is shady, safe and calm. There's a small playground for kids, basketball court and ample parking. Great place for a picnic

On a Sunday afternoon, we went here to check it out. The park has playground, lots of trees and plants, and is very spacious. It is great place to hide out and have a picnic.Right next door to the park is Queen Emma Summer Palace which has its own entrance.

This park is not your typical park to take the kids to on a weekend. There is a basketball court and a really, really large grassy area. There is even a bathroom. However, their playground is not a true playground. It is like a mini workout gym for kids. They have areas that you have to rope climb up and rock climb up. There is no slide!!!! The playground is for ages 5 and up I believe. However I can't imagine a child doing anything on this playground unless they were older. It is seriously an accident waiting to happen.Instead of actually using the structure we just bring our scooters and ride around the playground. They have walkways that are paved as well leading to the parking lot. Definitely a good place to picnic if you wanted. Only downside is the grassy area is right by the road. It is hard to play soccer or anything just in case the ball flys into the road.If you are looking for a park for young children to play this is not the park for you.

Great memories with the kids at this park when they still had the playground. Bring chicken and bread as bait for kids to go fish for guppies and crawdads in stream. Catch and release a good way to teach kids patience. Each year We would visit the temple next door for a family blessing. For a $50 donation the Friendly priest would put on temple music, beat on this gigantic drum and pray over each family member. Adults would get a sip of sake while kids would receive lolipops. I swear the devil was driven out of me! Purification and blessings are a great combination. Put a quarter into omikuji box and it will spit out a paper with your yearly forecast. Not good? Offer it to kami. Tie the paper onto the tree at the entrance.

This is a great neighborhood park to visit for picnics! While the parking lot is on the smaller side, there is a grassy area in front of the lot where many of the larger cars made extra "spaces."The park also has a pavilion. I didn't visit this area since there was a large group LARPing during our picnic, but it looked like it was in good condition and very roomy. There is also a park with playground equipment for the kids. There were plenty of little ones running around, riding bikes, and playing in the enclosed areas of the park. There are a couple benches, but the lawn is mostly open space. Everything was clean and safe. It seemed like the park is a common space for family gatherings and events. Again, the parking is really tight here during events, so make sure to plan ahead if you suspect spaces will be sparse.

This park is across from the Boy Scout's Aloha Council and is a pretty low key and nice park. It's very green and had a couple of beautiful trees.I come here early in the morning before I go to Nuuanu Elementary (right down the road), and there is only a handful of people in the area. It's pretty calm and nice to walk around the tennis courts and fields. There is a playground, but I have heard kids complain about the fact that there is no slide. If this attracts people, there are 2 pokestops (the temple and the Boy Scouts Aloha Council) that can be reached from the park and one Pokemon gym located in the field. Overall this is a nice park to just hang out in for a bit.

Nu'uanu Valley Park is a diamond in the rough. It is an expansive green space filled with beautiful old trees that help keep it cool even on the warmest summer days. Its location on the leeward slopes of the Ko'olau Range means that it often enjoys a refreshing breeze. The park is frequently used by parents who bring their keiki to play, those out walking the dog, and folks who want to enjoy time in this restful spot just a stone's throw from the Pali Highway. It's never crowded, which adds to its tranquil character. From its aging playground equipment to the tennis court in desperate need of a makeover, it's obvious that Honolulu C&C does little to maintain the space other than mow the grass, which is a real shame. This could be a spectacular location if given a little TLC. Maybe the Boy Scouts Council right across the street will decide to take it on someday--it would be a great project!

I can't believe I didn't know about this little gem. It's so close to where we live, as well as my son's school. I've passed this place from time to time, not realizing how huge this park is. So many possibilities, Came here for my son's classmate's birthday party. This place was awesome! Perfect for birthday parties. There was enough parking for the birthday party (approx. 30 ppl). The parents turned the entire park into a scavenger park with clues, and treasure chests for the kids to find. Yes, it was a pirate theme party. I'm totally going to steal their idea. There is a playground/jungle gym there as well. So much room for the kids to run around, meant they would be tired out and have a great nap later ;)I'll upload pictures so that you can get a better idea of the party (if you're interested in ideas), as well as the size of the park itself. Definitely going to have my son's birthday party here, or possibly work functions as well.

Nu'uanu Park, is a small little park with just enough things to do. There is a playground and tons of playing area for the kids. It is a great spot for photos, very green with tropical plants. The not so good...the park is too close to a main roadway. They should fence main parks around for added safety. We came here once, the kids enjoyed it and the photoshoot went well.

In Nu'uanu, an area with so much history, is a park right off of Pali. It would be easy to pass by and not even realize it was there. I wish there were still swings because that's usually one of my favorite things to do at a park but if you walk past the basketball court, towards the houses, there's a rope swing on one of the trees. This place brings back so many fond memories for me that I occasionally return just to center myself. There's a lot of space for picnics and family parties as well. On Tuesday nights you may catch Schola Saint George as they practice a European historical martial art style with swords (zugadore). If you need to use the restroom and the sun has set, I'd recommend bringing a flash light and a friend.
