What a racist company. The owner called me a racial slur. He went up to me working the National restaurant association I was working for a fried chicken company and we were sampling some chicken. He asked for 2 chicken wings after I gave him one chicken wing and a potato wedge. I told him " I'm so sorry we are only giving one sample per person we are backed up in the kitchen right now. " He went to my other coworkers who gave him 2 pieces and he comes back "ya know that girl gave me two, you gave me one because you're Filipino."

They're ok price wise but the outlets in both Hawaii and Ca mean that when I order the items, they hit their intended destination for both my bro in Sacramento and me in Honolulu in 2 days. That's a real plus. The bulk ogo @ $13.00 an ounce is pricy but it's the best I could do to send bro 3 packages to make his beloved ogo salad which in his haste he screwed up the first bag. $13. down the drain. Dumb @$$ that he is. It's probably best to use as a garnish for poke but beggars (my brother) can't be choosy. He can buy his own from now on. The first package I sent him was a care package gift. But since he now knows the cost and location, the dumb @$$ can get his own. The seasonings are an old staple standby especially for camping, easy to tote and store and very easy to use. I have trouble imagining the real need for them but I also know people who need help making gravy so these products are for them mostly. And for people who just don't have the time. I've tried most of them and they're all good but the best if the best is their dehydrated char siu seasoning which can go on chicken or pork. I'll give you the best tip of your char siu eating life. Don't dilute the powder in water. It makes the taste insipid. Sprinkle the powder evenly on your appropriate poundage of pork and let sit undisturbed and covered (the smell is potent) in the fridge. The moisture from the pork will create a thick syrup of marinade and without the dilution of additional water, the flavors will be twice as permeable. Trust me on that. I've done it for decades and shared that with a foodie group recently. They tried it and LOVED it. Nohs products are uber convenient, pretty good at replacing the real ingredients and in small amounts a real bargain considering you don't have to buy all the wet ingredients and spices. The great part is shipping is free. It comes fast from the warehouse and I don't have to go into any store to buy it. My next project is kimchee with their kimchee powder. I remember my dad using it before and it makes a very mild kimchee. I myself make great kimchee but I have a nephew who loves a weaker form of cucumber kimchee so I bought this just for him. I'm going to have fun experimenting with it and sharing it too since I bought the 3 lb bag and the most you'd need for a 4 pound batch is 1/4 cup! Hehehe. If I'm not mistaken a long while back their slogan was, "Say yes, to Noh's!" I haven't heard them advertise their products though. I don't think they have to any more. They're probably that well known by now. I probably wouldn't substitute Nohs for my delicious home made kalbi sauce for a potluck party but for overnight camping to just add water? It's a no brainer!

At my cousins request (from the mainland) I needed to buy NOH Hawaiian hot sauce and bring it back for them. So the nice person I am, I look up the location and head there to purchase a few bottles to take. Mind you it's like two blocks from my house. At about $2.85 a bottle you can't beat that but to purchase you have to spend a minimum of $20. No way ain't happening! So I ask the lady where else do they carry it... times, Safeway, etc.. I was all around the world and nothing. What a waste of my time. So unless your gonna spend $20 at the store that'll be your best bet. It's located behind the Tobacco shop on Beretania right next to the laundromat.

As soon as I entered the tiny shop tucked away off S.Beretania St. I felt like I was in a sitcom. But nothing funny about it. The lady behind the glass divider did not look up, no greeting at all. I quickly pulled a few packets of orig poke mix from what seemed like display racks, when I realized there's no cash register and no prices listed anywhere. So I stuck my head into her office and asked "these are for sale right?" She held her finger up without making eye contact and said "just a minute" because apparently what she was working on was much more important than catering to a peasant off the street taking up air. Literally a minute or two of awkward silence passed. Long enough for me to look around and notice this place doubled as some kind of unit rental business with keys hanging off a pegboard.Clearly that business took priority over my needing a few poke mix packets to bring to my brother in California. When she finally acknowledged my presence she replied "yes but you have to buy a minimum of $45." Excuse me? What? When I asked how much each one cost ($7.95) I had to figure out quickly whether I needed to buy 4, 5, or just bolt out of there with no ogo for my brother because I clearly was getting the message that customers aren't actually welcome there. I bit the bullet though, grabbed 4 packs of original poke mix and one other kind and went to pay. Turns out the other mix was $27 or something more than I'd spend on pounds of fresh ahi so that one went back on the rack. This wasted another minute of Important Lady's time. So after another awkwatd waiting moment, I handed her my credit card which she ran in silence, wiished her a happy holiday, and left that shop of unhappiness never to return again. Someone in her life, please give her the hug she needs. The poke mix is ono though!
