Okay. I gave them a chance but this is getting out of hand. I don't know about other parents but this is not okay for me. When a kid makes a mistake, I understand that you should do something to punish them but stop kids from having snacks and make a kid lay their heads on the table while everyone eats is not okay. One of the teachers seem like she doesn't like my kid and it's obvious.

We love this school! The teachers and staff are amazing & their curriculum is top notch imo. My daughter is so gregarious & outgoing that she is well known around the school. I am humbled by the kind words from other teachers, faculty & staff members, & parents about her where ever I go. My kids thrive & flourish here & this school contributed to that. The teachers do a great job in communicating expectations & keeping parents informed on their children's progress. They respectfully address any of my concerns & respond in a timely manner. They have great field-trips & host many family/parent & child involvement activities. I really like how Hawaiian & Japanese studies is incorporated into the curriculum too. One of the best public schools I know. I am so proud and glad my kids are a part of the Mililani Mauka Golden Eagle family.

This is an awesome elementary school for grades junior K thru the 5th grade. One of the first high tech schools in Mililani. Yes, they use iPads too!!Very clean, well organized and the staff from teachers, custodians, educational assistants & administrative operations, do an excellent job in making this school a blue ribbon school. Every morning & afternoon, various staff help to load & unload the children in & out of the vehicles at drop off & pick up. Organized and so much safer for everyone! The curriculum more than meets the standard, in fact it surpasses it. With having had experience at the rival school, Momilani Elem. in Pearl City, I feel that Mililani Mauka is better prepared to teach all children, wether your child excels or is the average child. You don't sense favoritism or prejudice. Everyone is treated equally. And each staff member involved with your child is attentive and caring towards them and their needs. I can go on and on, but I'll stop here. This is a top school and my children are happy here and are proud to attend this school!!

My last child has finally finished at this school. My daughter loved all of her teachers and her experience at Mauka. The funny thing is, she was never in the "teacher kids" class, until her 5th grade year- lol!! If you go here you might figure that out. Let me explain: the teachers who teach here place their own children in these teachers classes. Well, she got a citizen of the quarter award every year except for 5th - any guesses on who got it? My poor son on the other hand, ended up in the teacher kid track and got 1 award for his class throughout his entire stay there (he really sensed the favoritism in each of his classes and would verbalize it, impacting his desire to even try for anything "extra") But that doesn't negate the fact that they loved most of their teachers, administration, counselors, the opportunities, and experience. Too bad the background politics exist, they should really look into this practice.

Our daughter attended Mililani Mauka Elementary School. We have found that the faculty have been exceptionally helpful throughout her years there. From getting out of our car, to acknowledging you when you walk to school, to quick attention when small fumbles on wet grass occur. This team of educators, counselors, administrators, custodians, and cooks have helped our daughter through the years. Since leaving for the Middle School she still remembers each teacher and their words of wisdom and the ways they showed her how to be the best she can be without making her feel less then. She enjoys the rare occasions when she is able to return to her teachers to say Hi. I will always have fond memories and nothing less then Praise for those individuals that created such a perfect place of education for our daughter!Thank you Mililani Mauka Elementary for your service to our community.

I absolutely love this school, the teachers, the staff, the students, the campus, just everything! Both my daughters have attended this school and my oldest still misses it now that she's in middle school, she has great memories, she's never had an issue with bullies or heard of anyone else having issues. The teachers really care about each student, they offer many programs like PE, Hawaiian Studies, Japanese Studies, Chorus, Track Team, etc..., and many support systems, special education, Jr. Kindergarten, counselors, tutoring, etc..Mililani Mauka has always been voted in the top 5 best public school in the state of Hawaii. Every class has central air, enclosed hallways/doorways and carpeted classrooms.

Children, first (and always). School / Board of Education agendas, second. Though hopefully there is rarely a conflict between the two.Of course agendas, like rules, are necessary; esepcially in the day to day operations of a large institution or organization that is comprised of many, many differing individuals with differing needs - no argument there. However, those in charge cannot be so bound by agendas and rules that they react (or worse, retaliate) whenever there is any pushback. The ability to absorb, contain, critically analyze input and potential outcomes, apply that critical analysis, consider and then reconsider and finally be flexible if/when necessary (perhaps even "not sweating the small stuff"), should be an integral part of a profession that deals with children (and their parents!). Push and pull will always be a part of a child's development - and is always present in any sistuation that involves more than 2 people. An inability to flex or let go (when a little "give" is in order), or being held inside the confines of a box (of "standards") -- this should be a problem confined to those 6-11 year olds, not adults in the field of education. Also: if you ask for solutions, be prepared to present your own.But here is a grain of salt to take with the above comments: MME school is a very good school, so, hence the solid 3 stars. Perhaps approaching 4 stars(but YELP has no option for a half star). This school probably deserves the top tier ranking among Hawaii elementary schools, as well as the 4-star ranking on GreatSchools.org. At the end of the day, all Hawaii schools (as is true of any school in ANY state) are, to a great extent, a product of the Board of Education. So any critique of a individual school may be better directed at the BOE. Though this cannot account for the negative experiences in the area of direct family/child-to-teacher/administration interactions that some have had (as are described on other websites like GreatSchools.org). This issue is school-specific.Most websites and journals rank schools according to a multitude of parameters (each parameters given a score and/or a "weight" in the overall score or ranking). The value of "well-roundedness" aside, academics is paramount to me, as a parent. The overall ranking of a school is, of course, a useful tool and good to have - but many of the components of a school's ranking involve components that (IMO), long range are not as impactful / important (with regard to long range outcomes for the child such as future academic performance and eventual post-school "success"); for example: "parent satisfaction with resources available". Some may give a "10 out of 10" based largely on the fact that MME school employs the use of iPads. The use of iPads is not, in itself, particularly impressive to me (though I am grateful to see any school step into the 21st century, technologically). Results (academic) speak louder than most items on parent satisfaction surveys. So, in this regard, MME school is top tier. The way forward: personally, I would like to see some more "humanism" (?), if that's a good way to describe what I want to convey. I sometimes get the sense that being able to say, "we are following all the guidelines and all boxes were checked today; our rates of this and that and out scores on this and that are within target range or superior to other schools" is more important than knowing the individual student or connecting with the parent(s). Comments by other parents on other websites reflect the same concerns as mine. I suppose to the school's defense, I can relate to the pressure to stay within set parameters and to meet guidelines. This is happening in the corporate world, medicine and many other lareg-scale institutions. Not only do schools have to answer to a "higher God" (the BOE) but they must also walk the fine line between the BOE and trying to satisfy hundreds of parents.I hope this critique is taken constructively - but you will notice that IT IS written ANONYMOUSLY (for a reason! I do not want my child to become a target and suffer as a result!).
