Mickeys Surf School

This was my first time doing surf lessons as well as our two kids 8 & 10. Mike is an amazing instructor and is very knowledgeable and patient. He took great photos and videos of our trip in Waikiki. Mickey is a fantastic surf instructor! The day before my lesson, he sent me a few tips to prepare for the day that made my first time surfing seamless. I never thought I would be able to stand on a surf board, but the tips he sent over, the practice drills on the beach, and his guidance with when to paddle and where to stand on your board resulted in me standing on my board on THE FIRST TRY. I went back for surf lessons 2 more times because he was so helpful in his coaching. He also helped record a GoPro video and it was awesome to have my first run at surfing be documented so closely. I can't recommend him enough for your surf lessons at Waikiki!

I've taken a few lessons from Micah, and he's fantastic. He gives clear instruction about safety before heading into the water, makes sure you have foundational knowledge about where you should be on the board and about how to "pop" up (in my case, step up), and then helps you put it into practice on the waves. Emphasis on the swimming technique (90% of surfing is swimming on your board!), where you want to be in the water on a given day, and wave-spotting / timing - all things that set me up to catch waves by myself later in the trip!If you're looking for a true surf instructor, not just someone to push you into waves for an Instagram capture - Micah is it, the real deal. (But he will get your picture for you as you're riding the wave he helped you catch.)

I've been to Hawaii before and done other surf lessons, and Micah's was BY FAR the most informative and unforgettable. He booked my 90 minute private lesson last minute and took the time to learn my current physical activity regimen and to teach me on the beach how to stand up on the board in a way that worked for me and my own capabilities. Once we got in the water, he taught me about how to judge good waves, surfer etiquette, and was the most popular person in the water! He paddled me out each time so I didn't get tired too soon. After his advice, I was able to get up myself multiple times (never been able to do that before) and as a young woman on my own, I felt so safe and comfortable the entire time. I even got great pics/videos. I cannot recommend this company enough, worth every penny and more.

Mickey is the best teacher I could have had for my first surfing session. He got me up and down on the board safely on my very first try! Mickey's teachings were always on point, he explains why certain aspects will work and why some don't. He sets you up for good habits of practice that make surfing a breeze. And, he connects it all back to the way of the land, which I love. So many surfers knew of Mickey because he was the one who taught them! If you choose Mickey, just know you're in great hands. I will definitely be sending more people his way. Mahalo Mickey for everything you have taught me, can't wait to be back on the waves again!

Saw Mickey on the beach this morning setting up. We were watching him yesterday giving surf lessons to other people. I asked him about lessons for my son. We got lucky and he was able to give my husband and son lessons right then and there. Mickey was the best, very knowledgeable and friendly. He gave my husband and son lots of good tips. My son had lessons yesterday with a different company. He said he didn't learn much and wanted a professional surfer. So today I got lucky and was able to get my husband and son lessons with Mickey. I highly recommend Mickey. If you're lucky enough to get him as an instructor. He books up really fast

Mickey is an amazing instructor! He takes his time explaining everything so well and making sure you understand what you're doing before you get out in the water. Super friendly and helpful to families watching too. We will definitely be back to take another lesson, and absolutely recommend Mickey to all of our friends.
