Lunch in Kaka'ako, Honolulu, Hawaii...On the first and third Sunday of the month, a pop-up named "Mi Casa" makes its home at Fishcake on Kamani Street. There's free street parking all around! There are no meters on this street.Enter the Fishcake building and mingle around the various vendors if you like. I just focused on Mi Casa...The menu changes each time. On 6-18-23, I chose the Baja Fish Tacos and the Jamaica Strawberry Agua Fresca.I asked for "no spicy", but I think the chef forgot. I powered through the Sriracha mayo sauce because it added a nice color contrast to the pink pickled onions, the pale tortillas (double layered), and fried beer batter on the fish. The Mexican rice on the side was filling and hearty! The Agua Fresca helped to wash away the spicy feeling and had a refreshing, almost tart flavor. The thinly sliced fresh strawberries on the top were a nice touch! The cup rim was trimmed with chamoy... It was challenging, but made for a better photo! LOL!If you have a chance to have lunch here, it's a real treat! I felt like I had a personal chef because each plate is made with special care! Both Chef Eddie and his wife, Ayaka, are very welcoming and friendly!Sitting in the renovated, air conditioned garage is a unique experience. I should have wandered around to the back, but...I'll leave it for another day when I return!

Mi Casa is owned by Chef Eddie Gallegos and his lovely wife, Ayaka, who came up with the name, Mi Casa, which means "My House". Currently a pop-up on Sundays at Fishcake in Kakaako, they create and serve unique, comforting, homemade and handmade Mexican dishes. I had the pleasure to pre-order a dish they called "Poblano Pasta Tonkatsu" ($16) which married the Mexican and Japanese cultures of the co-owners. The tonkatsu was a thin breading over tender pork and the pasta was especially wonderful made with poblano peppers, garlic, onion, cilantro, cream cheese, salt, pepper and olive oil. The coolness of the side of salsa complemented the spiciness of the pasta, making each bite of tonkatsu, pasta and salsa pure bliss.I can't wait to join Chef Eddie this week at his cooking demo where we will be making smothered red chicken burrito!Parking for Fishcake at 307 Kamani St. is on the street if planning to stay longer than 15 minutes. Otherwise, there are a few stalls directly fronting the building off Kamani St. for those quicker pickups or deliveries.

Mi Casa at Iolani Palace...Kama'āina Sunday is certainly an eventful day along with having Mi Casa was a nice surprise as it was a sign to satisfy my cravings I've been having for tacos lately.Their De La Casa plate consists of Tacos De Carnitas (pork) or Tacos De Pollo (chicken), along with Spanish rice and beans and yes not really a beans person I got just rice along with choosing pork.Though their Agua Fresca looks refreshing I had my eye on another sip and got just the tacos and it's a good thing I took the time to take some pics because next thing I know they were gone! These cute street tacos was loaded with all the yummy usuals was just so flavorful it was just the right amount of everything and I was happy!I've been meaning to visit them at Fishcake where they seem to be on every 1st and 3rd Sundays since February but running into them here was a lucky surprise. They staff is delightful and helpful with my questions and it was just a nice environment to be a Kama'āina Sundays and hope to see them at many more future events.Thank you!

New Mexican eatery with huge potential.Vibrant freshness meets bold flavors. The street tacos showcasing well seasoned, juicy shredded pork with a picante salsa. A squeeze of fresh lime brings the flavors together nicely. The enchiladas de pollo, extremely well seasoned, slightly spicy finished with sour cream and more of the zesty, bright salsa. Pairs well with the sides of minimally seasoned beans and rice. Both pair well with the cucumber limonade.Part of the Fishcake cafe incubator. Popping up every first and third Sunday from 11:00 - 15:00.Self service dine in or takeaway.Cards through Square.Park perpendicular blocking the entrance to Fishcake.Follow on IG for menu and special popup dates. One to watch.

Mi Casa is only found every other Sundays at Fishcake/Kakaako. I've been waiting several months to try them out since i'm usually never off on the weekends. I've also heard from several people that their food is really good too, so the anticipation to go was very high. If they're not at Fishcake on the Sunday they're supposed to be there then they may be at Iolani Palace for Kamaaina Sunday which is usually once a month. You may want to follow their instagram to see where they will be just in case. There is several stalls (15 mins each) in front of fishcake. Street parking may be a challenge depending on the time you go. What i love about Fishcake is that they're super dog friendly! i've come here multiple times with my fur-son with various vendors here. Today I tried out the Melon agua fresca which was so flavorful and had some melon chunks in there too. I love that it doesnt taste like water with a hint of fruit. I also tried out their chicken enchiladas which was on the spicier side, so the melon agua fresca totally helped with some of the spice. The entree came with a side of beans and rice. We really enjoyed everything and hope to try other items in the future. Micasa is also a husband and wife team and they were so friendly and sweet. How can you not want to support them?!

Stepping into Mi Casa at Fish Cake Hawaii feels like a warm embrace of northern Mexican food in the heart of Hawaii. Amidst the polished interiors and lively chatter, Mi Casa stands out for its commitment to authentic and healthy Mexican cuisine--a rarity in the Hawaii. From the refreshing agua frescas, birria tacos, savory burritos, frijoles charros, to signature soups --every dish at Mi Casa is showcases a dedication to fresh, quality ingredients and the artistry of Northern Mexican cuisine.Nestled in a quiet corner of Kaka'ako, Hawaii, Mi Casa operates as a pop-up twice a month at the Fish Cake, an upscale Japanese chic furniture and art store that houses a test kitchen so you can explore art while eating. This is the food of Eddie's childhood. The dream began: to gift people the opportunity to "taste the home-cooked meals of the eldest generation of a small town--that's where the beauty of the flavor is shown the most."The Owners Eddie and Ayaka are fueled by a shared passion for their respective heritages, adds an extra layer of depth to the dining experience, promising not just a meal but a celebration of culture and love. We can't wait for Mi Casa to open a fully fledged restaurant and see their dreams unfold. It'll no doubt become a top restaurant in Honolulu.
