Came here before coming into work, one of my good friends recommended this place. Opens early with great selections! Definitely recommend getting the shoyu chicken and fried rice.

This is a tiny shop on Gulick Ave, very close to Gulick delicatessen.... It would appear that they are in competition because they serve pretty much the same okazuya type of food. I happen to like Matsumoto's just a tiny bit more because I like the flavors and the girl was super nice. It definitely feels more homey here. Also they're cash only. I ordered two plates and the prices are reasonable. I liked the fried chicken and the chow funn even though the noodles were a bit hard because it was cold. I also really liked the seafood roll. It tastes like something you'd get at dimsum. The shrimp tempura was just ok. The ume musubi was what you'd expect. The girl working the front was very patient and soft spoken. But she was efficient. I appreciated that she was so nice. There is no parking. I luckily got the one of 2 stalls in the front but I would have given up if I didn't get parking first time around. I like that matsumotos also has tables to sit at inside. I wouldn't necessarily stick around to eat, especially because I feel bad taking up a spot, but it's a nice option.

Been on an Okazuya Tear so I had to head up to Kalihi and hit up Matsumoto's Okazuya on Gulick Avenue because they are the verge of closing once they find a buyer. After ordering my food I overheard one of their regulars taking about when this place will shut down. One of the workers said that once they sell this place they will be there for a few months to help them on how to prepare the Okazuya Selections that they have on the Menu but as you may know the Food will never taste the same once the Original Owners leave. It's so sad to hear about these nostalgic places closing on the regular now but it can't be helped due to rising costs for food, supplies and even trying to hire working staff. So I had to at least support these guys till the very end. Here is what I had at Matsumoto's OkazuyaFried Chicken (2)Shoyu Chicken Seafood Spring RollKim Chee SausageChow Fun Ume OnigiriFurikake Spam MusubiPotato Mac SaladWhat stood out for me was the Fried Chicken,Shrimp Tempura,Furikake Spam Musubi and the Highlight was their Potato Mac Salad. What a generous portion and the taste was incredible. It was so good I might just go there if I have a Potato Mac Salad craving. The Young Female Worker in the front was a Sweetheart. I just love these Hole in the Wall Spots and I just hope you guys support places like this because they need our business -- at Matsumoto's Okazuya & Restaurant.

Everything is good at Matsumoto's! I have not been disappointed yet. I always hope I will run into Dan O., but I never do. Came on Saturday which is out of my norm, (m-f early morn) and prayed all the way here that there would be open storefront parking. I was blessed. Wide open! Today's order consisted of chowfunn, fried chicken, shrimp tempura, sweet potato tempura, veggie tempura, ume musubi, and hamburger.Matsumoto's never disappoints. Everything is always so yummy!Parking is challenging on the weekdays, but I take the chance and sometimes I get lucky. My coworker ALWAYS gets the stall right out front, and since she's been picking up the food, I've not gone in a while, but I'm determined to get that front row stall & get my grindage!

I was looking for bento places and discovered this little hole in the wall on Gulick Avenue. I ordered the Matsumoto Bento for $11.95. It had chow fun, ume musubi, fried chicken, hot dog, spam, egg omelette, teri beef, and shrimp tempura. Very tasty but maybe a bit salty. They have several bento options and a variety of okazuya. The gal who made my bento was friendly and answered all my questions. These bentos would be great to take to the beach or outdoor picnic. They also have a catering menu.

First time here but not last time. The guy working was very helpful. I got 3 Matsumoto's bentos to take with me to Cali. 2 for my "Uber" friends and of course 1 for me!!!! We talked a bit and he wrapped each bento so it wouldn't open on the flight. I got the chow funn and a piece of fried chicken to eat at the airport. Food was good and they went together well. Was lucky to get parking right out front! Can't wait to get to Cali to try the bento!!I miss these types of places living on the mainland.

Todd makes the best fry chicken, chowfun & gobo. Also love the Matsumoto bento. Prices are reasonable not expensive like the competitor up the street.
