A couple of friends and I came to Market City Shopping Center last month to get breakfast during lunchtime last month. It was on a weekday. Parking lot was pretty crowded. Well, it's a popular location for a lot of things. I also came here for the convenience. When we used to live in Waikiki, my hubby and I drove from downtown and get off at S King Street and across Kapiolani Blvd. Either we keep going and turn to Kapahulu Avenue to go home or stop by at Gina's BBQ to grab something quick or Foodland to grab something to cook. Turning into the parking lot has to be fast. Look both in front and right side to make sure no one else is turning into the parking lot. Oh, speaking of looking in front of me, the parking lot can be backed up with cars waiting and flowing into the street. So, turning could be an issue. I remember we used to come here to do grocery shopping on weekends. That was not easy to park on the Foodland side of lot. It's either wait for someone to pull out or walk at a distance. Back then (about 20 years ago), there were not many restaurants on the other side. Now, I could see it's more crowded. It was really hard to find parking. Still, I love to patronize at this shopping center. There is another parking lot in the back or down there in front of Ben Franklin Crafts and Kaimuki Self Storage. But I have only parked there a couple of times before. When I was much younger, I could walk up the ramp to go shopping. I couldn't do that anymore. I just have to find the right time to visit Market City Shopping Center.p.s. I uploaded 22 photos to go with my review. You need to use a computer see them all https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/market-city-shopping-center-honolulu-20?userid=jwPVqdHpVHCBfAe4pZBbgA

Shopping and dining in Honolulu, Hawaii...Located at the intersection of Kapiolani Boulevard, Harding Avenue, and Waialae Avenue, Market City Shopping Center has gone through many changes over the years. I remember when Fun Factory was one of the anchors. It changed into Walgreens and currently, it's vacant! On the far end, the stable anchor is Foodland. It's quite the busy grocery store with Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf at the furthest left wall. There's a lower level that's accessible via connecting road or two driveways on Kaimuki Avenue. This strip houses businesses such as Ben Franklin Crafts, L&L BBQ, and Fujioka's Wine. The upper level has a lot of action. The shared free parking lot sometimes is really crowded. I miss Cloud 9 and Anytime Cafe. I've been to Cafe Kaila, Fun Station, Nabeya Maido, Win-Spuntino, Donut King, and EARL. I think I should revisit Gina's and Duck Lee... And try The Best Pho! I'll be back!

Interesting Fact: On May, 1948 Sully opened the first modern supermarket at Market City Shopping Center which people called it Foodland.Located at the intersection of Kapioloani Boulevard & Harding Avenue, it is Hawaii's oldest family-owned shopping center serving the Kaimuki & Moiliili communities. It has come a long way since its humble beginning as a vegetable patch in 1946.In the current days, MCSC is still thriving the best to serve the community and able to stand strong with the help of different merchants renting the place. Personally, I hate it before because of the traffic it caused & everytime we come up in here we had difficult time finding parking coz its just too packed & parking spaces are tight. All of these changed though, as I read & searched further this shopping center. Now I have so much respect to this place esp. its history before it was called Market City Shopping Center. We barely come in here unless we really need a certain business.Mahalo for reading & happy juandering fellow yelpers.

In recent months due to Foodland and some of the smaller stores and restaurants, Market City Shopping Center has become one of our go-to places to run errands. It's a great older shopping center that feels more like what you'd find in a small town rather than a city. Everything here is deceptively large. It's two levels with most of the first floor stores extending under the upper parking lot. As the lots were designed a long time ago, there are often traffic jams on entering. With patience, you'll get in and find a spot in no time. The upper level has the anchor stores of Foodland and Walgreens on each end, with small stores, banks, and restaurants in between. Highlights are Cafe Kaila and Nabeya Maido, plus Donut King and Gina's BBQ. Prices vary, but overall many places are more affordable than expensive. The lower level has its own parking and entrance. Ben Franklin Crafts is down here, plus a gourmet cheese shop, a wine/cigar/beer store, and a self-storage facility. You can easily walk between the levels with a safe staircase inside Walgreens, free to use for anyone. Restrooms are available for customers roughly in the middle of the mall, plus the larger stores have their own. Overall we enjoy coming here as it can be a one stop shop!

Foodland, Walgreens and Ben Franklin cuddle fun restaurants from morning to late night dining with snack breaks in between. The parking can be difficult in the upper level. The lower level's parking distance can make it difficult with bags of groceries.Beautiful lit up tree in middle of the upper parking lot in the evenings.

You can find a good variety of restaurant options in this small shopping center, many of which are very popular. There's also Foodland, Walgreens, and downstairs Ben Franklin's Crafts. The shopping center itself is old and unkempt. The parking fluctuates between being empty and jam-packed. Drivers regularly get into accidents and arguments in the parking lot. If you try to contact the management in charge of the shopping center, no one calls you back.

Excellent small local business shopping center that has food land supermarket, donut king, walgreens, and duck lee roast duck and chinese food to go. It's unfortunate that Market city center no longer have that El Toro to Mexican restaurant and Fun Factory. But overall, great small local business shopping center.

I like this little shopping plaza which houses Foodland, Ben Franklin, Walgreens and whole bunch of restaurants. The great place to try the different restaurants. The problem here is a parking. It's hard to find parking in both upper and lower parking lots during peak periods. They don't have enough security here. In fact I haven't seen one in quite awhile. So please be careful especially at night because there's hardly any lights in the parking lot.

This is specifically for the parking lot. The stalls are way too tight. It is almost inevitable that the car next to you is over the line. On any given day, there are at least a half-dozen stalls where no one can park in because people are parked over the line. Having a security there is of no help. They just sit on their stool and watch people literally in front of them park over the line and say nothing. I just had a conversation with several neighbors who refuse to go to Market City anymore because of the parking situation. Dings on our car doors, stories of having to enter the car from the passenger side. We have witnessed elderly and people with babies having to reverse car and stick out in lane to let passengers out and take out/put in car seats. They need to redo the parking lot and widen the stalls! Market City has many elderly patrons. At the very least, have the security get off their butts and actually patrol the area and have them park in the stalls. Definitely ruining business for the clients there.
