If you self-park at the hotel, be careful when handling your parking ticket on your way out. If you use a restaurant at Mara, use the parking payment machine on the floor where you parked. Do not use the first parking payment machine at the elevator on your way out. There is a notice on the parking machine with this warning, but some people may not read it. This time, I visited with a friend who has been to this restaurant many times. I recommend going with about four friends. For the appetizer, we had hummus served with fluffy oven-baked pita bread.Zucchini chips with special sauce. For the main course, you can choose the cooking method from aqua pazza (tomato, olive, caper), Moroccan (olives, preserved lemon, chermoula), and Greek "Island Style" (lemon and olive oil rasolemono sauce, oregano).I consulted with the server and chose scallops and Greek "Island Style".My friend ordered scallops and aqua pazza. Moist, oven-roasted local chickenSide dishes included roasted potatoes, smooth fire-roasted eggplant with esme (Turkish dish), and an eggplant dish that was delicious.I enjoyed a lemon cream pavlova with delicate meringue and yuzu-flavored Kula strawberries. For dessert, I recommend sharing the large one with 3-4 people.

3.5 starsI recently dined at MARA in Honolulu, and overall, it was a so-so experience. The ambiance is definitely a highlight--modern, airy, and perfect for a casual night out or a relaxed date setting. The decor, with its ocean blues and warm lighting, adds a nice touch of sophistication. As for the food, it had its moments. The tasting trio appetizer with house-made flatbreads was fresh and enjoyable. However, some of the dishes felt a bit underwhelming for the price point. The flavors were good, but nothing really stood out as memorable.Service was a mixed bag. While the staff was friendly, the attentiveness could've been better. There were noticeable delays in getting our orders, and it felt like some details were overlooked, which slightly took away from the overall experience.MARA has potential, especially with its vibrant atmosphere and Mediterranean-inspired menu, but there's room for improvement in both service and food. Not bad, but not exceptional--just an okay spot if you're in the area.

Simple Mediterranean fare at lunch. Salads, kebabs, a sandwich. The tastes are fresh and clean. Today a group of seven gathered at 11:30am. Since the offerings were few, 4 of us opted for the fresh fish plate, 2 for the prawn kebab plate, and 1 for the chicken. Everything the same except the kebab choice which included seasoned rice, pita bread, tzaziki and chopped vegetables. The star of the show was the citrus beet salad (entree portion). Salad consisted of golden and red beets, pickled red onions, mandarin oranges, and a housemade feta, shared by the table. Seasoned with a light vinegarette, black peppercorns, and cumin, I would come back for that salad alone!Service excellent as one would expect from a place of this caliber. Self parking at lunch was validated and free of charge. Located in the Renaissance Hotel on Kapiolani Blvd, the property is convenient and right across the street from Ala Moana Shopping Center. A cute little coffee shop sharing a wall. Am looking forward to trying that place soon.

Delicious spot in Honolulu and great for groups or a nice dinner for two. The staff were friendly and attentive. Menu had something for everyone and a lot of flavorful dishes. My only complaint is I wished the server was a bit more honest about the portion sizes...they're huge and we ordered way too much Favorite dishes were Grilled Octopus (mezze), Whipped Burrata (spread), Brussels Sprouts (side), and Kabocha (side). I'm still dreaming about that Whipped Burrata dish and how it incorporated the roasted beets. So so good and the unlimited pita bread too!

We visited Maya for the first time recently to celebrate a birthday with the family. Reservations were easy for a weeknight evening, and free validated self-parking is available at the hotel (valet is also an option). We could not be seated until at least 3 of our 4 diners were present. We started with the tasting trio with pita and dips which was beautiful and delicious! The pita was warm and fluffy and refills were plentiful. We also ordered the zucchini chips (basically thin sliced zucchini in fried in tempura batter) based on reviews, but I thought it could have used a bit of salt. For our entrees, the lamb dish available for the evening was a lamb curry/stew served with yellow rice that wasn't on the menu. We also ordered the hand-cut shrimp pasta. Both entrees were very yummy but took a very long time to arrive. Also a bit on the small side for the price. Thankfully we had endless pita in the meantime...For a complimentary birthday dessert, we were served a scoop of dragonfruit gelato with a candle! Smooth, creamy, and delicious!Overall, we enjoyed our experience. Would probably return for happy hour and just get the tasting trio though!

We ate at Mara with a party of four with a 6:45 reservation on 01/20/2025. This was my first time at this restaurant, located in the Renaissance Hotel.Overall, our service was great. We had a very attentive server, as well as a in training server, and there were no complaints about serviceThe atmosphere is nice, and it is as dressy or casual as you want it to be.Our table started with the tasting trio which included Hummus, Tzatziki and Burrata. It was so yummy. For my entree, I had the scallops prepared Moroccan style, which was a generous portion for the price (particularly in Hawaii). I also had some of the sprouts, which was shared by the table.Overall, I give this experience a 5 out of 5, and I would return again.

Went to Mara for a special holiday meal with family. First off the food was delicious! There was not one thing we did not enjoy. The bad, as many other reviewers have mentioned, is the service. We had to wave down our server a few times for water, to remind him of orders, and finally to order dessert and get the bill. The scallops were surprisingly small for the price, but others were well sized. It was very odd. Great food but overall the experience was pretty meh, so likely would not be back.

1/5 service 5/5 food 2/5 priceWe had the pleasure of trying Mara's Mediterranean brunch menu, and it was a flavorful journey! For just $46, the prefix brunch menu offers an appetizer, main, and dessert--a fantastic deal that left us absolutely stuffed. Here's what we tried: Appetizers: Beef kibbeh nayeh (so fresh and flavorful) and abi crudo (delicate and bright). Mains: Shakshuka (perfectly spiced and hearty) and a crispy, satisfying fish sandwich. Desserts: Greek yogurt soft serve--tangy, creamy, and the perfect end to the meal.We also couldn't resist the tasting trio to sample even more! While the service was a bit slow (likely due to understaffing), the quality of the food made up for it. If you're considering a visit, the prefix menu is definitely the way to go for value. Otherwise, be prepared for higher prices with the à la carte options. Worth it for a flavorful Mediterranean experience!

Today we went to Mara. We were there when they first opened and they had an amazing Jidori Chicken sandwich. The chicken was deep fried and there was an incredible sauce that clung to the chicken. It was divine. Today we ordered it again and this time the chicken was grilled and had no flavor at all. It was a huge disappointment. We talked with the wait staff to voice our concerns. They let us. know they had given the new chef this feedback as well, but they are convinced that people prefer a healthier option. We actually went to Mara today as a cheat day on our diet and were disappointed to find that we were spending $80 on a chicken sandwich we could easily make at home. I asked how to get this message to the chef and it was recommended that I leave this review here and on Yelp. So to the Chef - please bring back the original Jidori sandwich it was divine and well worth $80 and our cheat day.
