We were there for character breakfast. First you can valet your car with validation at the restaurant and you can park for 2.5 hours without Extra payment. The resort is amazing as always for Disney standard. Expectations are well met. Decors are all on point and amazing as always! The place is so beautiful! Then we went down to check in for our breakfast, we were about 8 min late but they were very welcoming still and friendly, they asked about if we have any food allergies. First thing we did is go to take pictures with Mickey. I was so excited and so amazing. Then we came back in the waiting area and wait to be seated. About 2-5 min another server came back and got us to our seats. Then our server Joe came and took our drinks order and he asked about food allergies again. We got the menu and so it is a three course breakfast which will come with seasonal fruit and the malasadas and drinks which can be coffee, tea, juices or soda. Then you can pick your main entrees. I have choose Kalua pig omelet and my hubby got the Hawaiian style loco moco. My one is three cage free eggs with spinach, Malay pulled pork, tomato, Gruyère cheese in the omelette and then onions on top and then herb roasted finger potato on the side. A lot of food but very hearty breakfast. My hubby's one is different than normal breakfast, it is fresh ground hamburger steak with two sunny side up or scrambled eggs, on steamed white rice with Maui onion gravy. It is so good. But again very hearty. We did not have lunch that day which works out perfectly. Also during your breakfast, several characters came and visited us, we got to met with Minnie, Pluto and stitch. So much fun and so many memories built. Afterward we were able to walk around the resorts and checked out the beach area, the snorkeling area, the pool, the shop and the lobby even got a chance to check out the room sample before we leave. It is a definitely amazing experience!

While in Hawaii, we wanted to get into the Disney spirit! Back on the mainland, we always frequent Disney Parks at least 2-3 times a month. It seemed fitting to keep up with the Disney theme while on the big island! We headed over to Aulani Resort for the Makahiki character dining experience. As we walked on to the property, we were taken aback by the beauty of the resort itself. It's like a tropical oasis with a Disney theme. When we checked in, they had us step outside to take a photo with Mickey. He was dressed in shorts while sporting a Hawaiian shirt. After we finished posing for the photo, they scanned our Disneyland annual passes. The photo popped up on our photo pass for a preview. It was nice because we had a digital download after we purchased the photo.Once seated, we viewed the menu and made our selection. Of course they had Mickey waffles readily available! What I really liked was that they offered vegan sausage, yet it wasn't on the menu. I was glad that I asked for an alternative to the pork sausage. Characters walked around and posed for photos while patrons enjoyed breakfast. We met Minnie, Stitch, and Pluto! The odd thing is that as they visited each table, they sometimes forgot to come to the tables in the center of the dining room. So, some guests ended up waiting a bit longer to meet specific characters. It didn't bother us as we stayed for quite some time. Looking back on our experience, I can say that it was definitely worth the money that we spent at Makahiki! It's a spot that attracts tourists while bringing Disney magic to locals who may not have an opportunity to visit other Disney resorts. Service was awesome as they were very attentive and quite friendly. We plan to come back next summer to stay at Aulani for a couple of days! Mahalo!

We reserved a character dining breakfast for my son but really it was me and my husband who was really excited. My son didn't really care about the character, he was more interested in chasing the birds. I requested if we could sit outside best to the koi pond because my son love looking at the fish. I also explained that since my son is autistic it might be better so we don't interrupt others. They were very accommodating. Between the birds and the fish my son didn't notice anything else.Food wise everything was good. I loved the malasada as the starter. It was very yummy! Probably the best malasada I've had in a while. I ordered the loco miso with Portuguese sausage fried rice. Again probably the best loco moco I've had. It's not oily like some other places. My husband got the omelet which he said was really good. Our server, Tony was very friendly and attentive. I kept apologizing for my son running around and chasing the birds. But he would always say don't apologize cuz our son was helping to keep the birds away. Even before we left he gave us some chocolate covered Oreos to take back with us.Will definitely be back again.

Service was really good and it was nice to spend time with some characters. For the price, I was surprised it's not a buffet anymore, I remember the food being great and the ability to get "seconds". I think I paid $55 for an omelett, fruit and potatoes. Omelett was boring and potatoes were potatoes. No one was super impressed with pancakes either.Goofy, Pluto and Max made their rounds to each table and you get a shot with Mickey going in but would be nice for the price to have another character or two.

I can't speak highly enough about Makahiki restaurant at Aulani. Service. Food quality. Convenience. Ambience. All boxes: CHECK.Every year, my parents spoil me and my sister's family to a weekend at the Grand Villas at Aulani. With that comes the anticipated character breakfast and dinner at Makahiki. We even have our go-to server Norman who has taken care of us for years with memorable dinner services. If there is one suggestion that all should note, it is to MAKE A RESERVATION ahead of time. We usually call one month in advance for our party of 10 to ensure a smooth morning/evening.The children's dinner menu is more extensive than what the paper lists. Keiki can choose mac and cheese or sliders if the prix fixe items don't appeal to your kiddo. Service is prompt for both day and night. Be sure to take pics with Mickey and friends if you sign up for the Character Breakfast! My boys love the Mickey Waffles and the Loco Moco was the crowd favorite for the grown ups.I am so impressed with their dinner menu. For a resort restaurant, I am in love with their Caesar salad, Filet Mignon/Ribeye Steak (depending on season), and warm chocolate toffee brownie with vanilla ice cream. I will eat EVERY LAST BITE with nary a crumb left behind. Norman is fantastic and as a bonus, takes amazing photos of your group if you ask politely. Not only will he willingly take your pic, but he took us to FOUR different backgrounds just so our family can choose the best of the best pics. Unreal! We love Aulani and have made memories that will last a lifetime. You cannot put a price on that kind of joy. Thank you to Aulani and the staff for bringing the happiest place on Earth right in our backyard. We will gladly return!

I have gone to the character breakfast many times pre-covid and was a little worried about it now because it's no longer a buffet. But for 50$ you get your entree, fresh fruit, a malasada, and drinks included. My favorite thing is that you do see characters more often than when it was a buffet. Absolutely amazing service and still such a great ambiance with the aunty/ uncle entertainment. One tip, if you are celebrating something go to the front desk and ask for a button there, they do not have them down by the restaurant anymore! Then you can take pictures with your pins :)

A very well rounded experience that won't disappoint. You get the best of both worlds of decent food and a character photo opportunity. We got the traditional Hawaiian breakfast of loco moco and the kalua pork omelet. I prefer the loco moco a lot more. All in all, highly recommend for good food and experience for the ultimate combo.

The food was absolutely amazing! EXCEPT, the pineapple was SUPER sour! My daughter had the red velvet Mickey and Minnie waffles with fruit, and bacon. I had the French toast with fruit and bacon and my aunt had the Belgian waffles with fruit and bacon. We started off with MALASADAS and Fruit and i had Pog. For the price we paid, it would have been nice if we had more selection of drinks including filtered or full 8 oz of bottled water. All the characters visited every table in a pattern that they must follow. My daughter and I both danced and did the hula with Minnie and Chip or Dale. The ukulele singer was so friendly! We will be back in April! Aloha!

If you're used to character dining experiences at Disneyland or Walt Disney World, this is definitely something to go to and try. This was breakfast character dining. It isn't a buffet but it was a great amount of food to keep you full. There were three of us and decided to just share each of the entrees. Each person gets a bowl of fruit and one malasada. Our waitress was really nice and the Hawaiian ambiance mixed with Disney magic was chef's kiss. It was about $50 per adult but I do recommend going here to at least try.
