Mahina Hawaii

Our tour wasn't perfect but we still had a great time. Pros: 1. Our guide was full of interesting stories. 2. It was cool going to more hidden spots. Many of the places we went to, we were either the only ones there or there were just a handful of others. I really appreciated being able to experience places that we would have never found on our own.3. Some of the activities were beyond our comfort level, but the guide always gave us an alternative that we were more comfortable with. We did push ourselves beyond our comfort level, some more than others in our group, and I have to say that in itself was a rewarding experience that I will treasure, even more than some of the sights we saw. It was terrific bonding experience.Cons:1. There was less communication than I would've liked before the tour. Our guide said he would follow up the day before but he never did. I had provided general input on what we preferred but none of it was confirmed ahead of time so we really had little idea of what the day would include. As a result, we weren't exactly sure how to dress or what to bring, and there were parts of the tour we would've been happy to skip.2. The guide didn't bring any life vests. Most of us weren't comfortable swimmers and this really inhibited us from enjoying the water activities to the fullest extent. I would say this was the most disappointing part.(Note: If you hike through any tropical areas, wear bug spray -- no matter what anybody tells you!) Overall, it was still a memorable experience that I will reminisce about fondly. I feel like we got our money's worth and we'd try Mahina Hawaii again.

Where to begin?! From the booking to the end of day drop off, Ryan and Beccy were beyond amazing! Booking: with COVID, we wanted to ensure our booking was 100% refundable if someone in our party had a positive result. The cancellation policy doesn't have a COVID contingency so I called and asked if they could accommodate and asked to have that sent in email as a confirmation. Ryan was more than accommodating and immediately emailed us with the modified cancellation policy and even told me to call to book versus online to avoid online fees. Booking was easy and Ryan asked great questions to understand what type of group we were and what interests we had to ensure he created the perfect itinerary for us. Day of: Pick up: Ryan called before pick to let me know/confirm the activities for the day. Ensured he had what he needed and that we packed what we needed. He was picking us up and was even 10 minutes early to ensure we were packed and ready to go right at 10 am! First stop: Snorkeling! I have been snorkeling several times but this was by far the BEST I've done. The weather was perfect and sun shining and water was crystal blue clear. The fish and coral were beautiful. We saw a pod of dolphins, a seas turtle, sting ray and so many different type of tropical fish. There were some great underwater statues/ structures and Ryan shot some great photos/ videos. Beccy was wonderful with my youngest daughter (10 years old) and ensured there was a surf board to hold into when she got tired. 2nd stop: mermaid caves! Right up the road from the snorkel spot and such a cool/ beautiful spot we did a little bit of exploring, took some great photos/videos and went to our next stop. 3rd stop: Waterfall Cliffs! Brief hike through lush forest to a cute hidden gem of a waterfall. There were ledges 8, 25 and 35 feet high that you could jump from. Most of my party jumped off one or all of them and it was amazing. Ryan took great photos and videos to capture the memories. 4th stop: Lunch at The Smoking Boar and the Coconut!! OMG, great recommendation by Ryan. The place is a family owned restaurant (Ryan and Beccy's neighbors in fact). Everyone in our party (8 people) absolutely LOVED what they ordered. I even tried a few bites of others too and everything was absolutely delicious. Even my youngest, who is the pickiest easter eva could stop eating hers and kept saying how it was the best rice she ever tasted. 5th stop: Surfing the North Shore!!!! Only two people had done any kind of surfing and Ryan and Beccy had everything we would need. Down to the surfing clothes to avoid any rashes. The waves were perfect and everyone got up on their first try! Great instruction and really attentive to ensure we caught the wave and had the best experience. Ryan took photos and videos of the kids surfing and we got some great family photos at the end in front of the surf boards. Becky went tandem surfing with my youngest and she was AMAZING with her. My daughter didn't want to stop. In transit: Ryan and Beccy were great conversationalist and the drive didn't seem long at all to each stop because we were having so much fun just chatting. Overall: I would book them every day if I knew how amazing the day would be. My girls and the rest of the party said it was the best day of the trip. Even if you're only here for a day or two, BOOK THEM! You will not regret it. If/when we come back, we will definitely be booking them again. Mahalo Ryan and Beccy for an amazing experience and day!

When I was looking for excursions to book, I had researched so many different places and it was all the same...tour bus with a bunch of strangers...do one excursion and drive around town...that's it!! I wanted a customized itinerary that fit our needs and stay away from the crowds.Since I was limited on time, I wanted to do as much in one day as possible and do what I want with my level of comfort for me and my boys. So when I stumbled upon Mahina Hawaii it checked everything I was looking for!! I'm telling you...this is your one stop shop with a private tour guide that tailors to your wants and needs!! Ryan, the owner and I talked a few days before my trip to get to know me and my family and asked for our top things to do. I thought that was soo cool so I listed what was what we would like to do and he delivered!! He showed up on time with a van full of paddle boards, snorkel gear, snacks and water!! When I tell you that we did everything, I mean we did EVERYTHING!! We hiked to a small waterfall where my son jumped off cliffs with no one around! We then drove around while Ryan gave us insight on the island and we talked as if we were friends for years!! He is soo patient and personable! We then drove to Northshore where we paddle boarded, saw a manta ray, jumped off more cliffs, snorkeled, and then he took us around and stopped whenever we wanted to for pictures!! Did I mention he was also our photographer??? And sends you all the photos and videos for no additional charge!!! We ended the day with a stop at Leonard's for the world famous malasadas and he dropped us off back at our hotel!! It was by far the best part of our trip and we are so thankful we did it!! We had a fantastic experience. Nicole planned the day based on what we wanted to do and our skill levels. We packed in paddle boarding, snorkeling with turtles, a short hike to a great view of the shore line, including seeing a pillbox for the first time and another short hike to a waterfall. It was our best day of the trip!I would highly recommend Mahina!

There is so much to do and see on Oahu and this was, by far, the best use of our time and money. You can get as laid back or hard core as you desire. They have activities for all ages and fitness levels.If you were to unpack this experience and attempt to do it all on your own, without knowing the island, you would pay more and not come close to what Mahina provides. And remember its private, only your group, not you and a van full of unpredictable strangers.Our guide Evan was so knowledgable about the island, its history, and all of the best places to go. My family of four stopped at Leonards for some malasada's, got to jump from Waimea rock, snorkel in Sharks Cove & another beautiful location, and that was all before lunch. After lunch we went stand up paddle boarding for an hour and stopped at another spot to swim with turtles. We were exhausted, in a good way, to stay the least.The entire experience was captured by Evan on his GoPro (at no extra charge). We have so many photos and videos to capture this once in a lifetime experience.Book a full day with Mahina, you will be so glad you did.

Our tour began with a waterfall hike followed by cliff diving. Eight year old stayed at 3 foot level at first but then progressed to 6 foot level. Twelve and thirteen year olds were excited to try 3, 6, and 20 foot levels. After our wonderful tour guides, Conner and Chace, jumped from 33 feet, our 35+ males had to do the same! Our guys couldn't master the back flips however. Since we were newcomers to the island, the tour included several stops with brathtaking views! Connor and Chace taught the beginners how to snorkel and body board. Our tour guys ensured everyone was having a good time. Our age range was from 8 to 75. We all loved the experience and came home exhausted! Definitely highly recommend to everyone of all ages!

Oh, Sweet Baby Jesus! If you haven't booked a private tour with Mahina Hawaii, you are missing out. We had THE BEST DAY EVER with Connor. We snorkeled at Electric Beach (saw a turtle AND got immersed in a school of Hawaiian Sergeant fish), hiked through beautiful Banyon and mango trees to a waterfall where the brave at heart ones in my family cliff jumped, had lunch at some food trucks on the north shore, then did stand up paddle boarding and kayaking on a river where we saw even more turtles. Finished the day with shave ice before heading back to resort. Seriously, best day of our trip. We would have never done so much had it not been for Connor. It was my favorite part about my vacation I loved it it was definitely a trip that I will remember just because of this one of them it was an embrace full day when we did lift jumping snorkeling and we went paddle boarding. It was so much fun not only that but there's so many more activities I enjoyed it so much and I would 1010 recommended to everyone I could because it is amazing.

Chase was fantastic! He planned activities like he had known us forever. A hidden waterfall, cliff jumping, great conversation and a sprinkle of history, the best food truck for lunch, SUPing with turtles, a river rope swing, off the beaten path beaches, and a view from heaven. We could not have asked for a better day. It was worth every penny!

Outstanding!!! We had an awesome full day adventure with our guide Connor. Totally customized to our interests and abilities. We took on a more adventurous route and experienced water falls, swimming holes, a challenging ridge line hike, a river/ocean kayak, perfect lunch spot for Poke (lunch not included), snorkeling and plenty of other surprises. We normally do half day excursions but were happy we went with the full day so we could explore Oahu and get out of Honolulu. Great for an active small group that are wanting 1) to avoid a slow tour group and 2) to explore in a manner that was respectful to the island and people that both live here and are from here.
