Since moving to upper-Liliha over 15 years ago, I pretty much have been coming to the Maemae School Family night every year. This one-day event is usually held sometime between late-April to early-May. Rain or shine I am here and still amazed of the community support for this event. Many alumni come here to support the school as well as the residents who live in this district. On the school ground this event has many games, rides, food booths, bake shop, country store, silent auction, face painting, school logo shop and more! Wait a minute, did I say food booths? One of my former classmates has been volunteering for the Family Night for many years now and she has been at the Spam musubi. This year they made over 1200 Spam musubis!!!!!! Holy Cow, that's a lot of Spam peeps! In the past I have volunteered at the Family Night for many years when my niece and nephew attended here but now that they have both graduated, I now come here to enjoy this event. The weather this year wasn't that great as it RAINED RAINED and RAINED pretty much all morning to the afternoon. Eventually it stopped so I came by at about 6pm to find muddy grounds! But it sure didn't keep the peeps away as there were many people in attendance. When you go late they have bargains and announced 50% off at the bake shop. I was tempted to buy some goodies but made a promise to myself and my personal trainer to eat in moderation so with my will power I passed on this great deal. Last year I was able to purchase produce and plants discounted heavily but also passed this year as there weren't many things left of my interest. For the silent auction there were a lot of gift certificates and cool items. I put a bid on an umbrella I really wanted only to lose to a very aggressive lady who ended up purchasing 4 of the 5 locally made umbrellas. There was one left and I almost bought it as the staff thought no one bid on it but come to find out it was won by fellow Yelper Ashley S.! Overall, this is a great event to support the school in my district and look forward to this every year.

I so look forward to this event! We aren't able to join the festivities until about 6:30 pm, but there are still plenty of things to do: - the silent auction usually closes around 7:30 p.m. and has two rooms of awesome gift certificates, alcohol (there were some pretty cool japanese whiskey sets available this year, but I didn't win!), and other random items (e.g., signed basketball last year and this year). pretty happy with my wins this year! - we scored some pretty great items at half off from the country store - salad dressings, hawaiian marinade sauce, and beansprouts! - the bargain bin at the cafeteria was selling empty paper safeway bags for $5 and we could fill it up with whatever we wanted! At first, i wasn't sure, as I only saw a carter's 4t denim jacket with tags still on that I wanted for my daughter, but once I had that bag in my hand, the bargains filled them up! I found another top for me with tags still on, a couple more nice tops for my daughter, and a bunch of really cool books - my husband warned me that he'd be super embarrassed if the bag broke, so I had to leave! - we got two malasadas for $1.50 (scripts only). the other food looked awesome (should've tried the fried noodles and mandoo!) but we were too concerned about buying stuff at the other booths. - our daughter loved playing on the playground. It's a great fair and we're always happy to support our community school!
