I just want to say that the 30 years of experience that the captain has, shows. The boat is well equipped, well kept, and clean, which most of the charters I've been on usually has a little grime to them. We were able to catch two ahi tuna and one mahi mahi and the captain cleaned our share of the meat. He filleted the mahi mahi beautifully and we were able to bring it home and cook it-- Mexican style. There was one thing that stood out the most to me though: the relationship between the first mate and the captain. The first mate worked so hard. He ran around the boat, cleaned the fish, set up the baits, sat on the top deck and looked for jumping fish. He seriously made catching the fish a seamless experience and you could tell, the captain trained him well. When we first hit the waters, I sat on the top deck with the captain and the first mate, and you could FEEL their passion for fishing when the tuna jumped. It was refreshing just watching two dudes bonding over their love for fishing, and sharing that passion with my husband and I. My husband said that this was the best charter that he has ever been on and my friends who cooked the fish, said that it was the best mahi mahi they ever had. "We ate like kings!" I can't recommend this experience enough. When we come back to visit our friends, we plan on hitting the waters with Shannon and Dusty. Until then, keep that passion burning! Mahalo!

Capt Shannon does it again right for myself, family and friends. What a way to celebrate Presidents' Day. The weather was great the moon was perfect and the Marlin were biting! We arrived at 6:00am so no traffic foRom Honolulu. And out we went. The Capt and his first mate his son did all the hard lifting caught bait for about an hour but that was fun in itself. We caught a good number of Ōpelu (Mackerel Scad) from 11" to 16" to use as our live bait. The big ones are perfect for Marlin. Started out slow but picked up a striped Marlin about 9;50 am. He was about 125 lbs. then we got a large 45 lb SHORTBILL SPEARFISH (HEBI) which was a beautifully colored fish. Then by 3:09 pm had landed two blue marlins one about 170 lbs and the second about 200 lbs. we were all beat but a great fishing outing. It's been since Dec 2016 when I last went out with Live Bait and filled the boat with Ahi. I highly recommend them. Shannon's a great individual and professional seamen and fisherman. Well done to the Livebait team!!?

We heard about this spot after a buddy caught a 300 lb Marlin...obviously we had to try our hand at it. We had a great time with Cap'n's Shannon and AJ on our excursion. The trip starts off relatively early about 15 miles outside of Ko'olina. We had to meet the guys about 6 am at the marina. Google maps will get you there, but it's a bit obscure so just be aware. Half and whole day trips are available - just spend the extra and go the full day. If the fish aren't biting early, they'll likely be around later, plus catching bait takes a while. The first bit of the trip is spent trolling for bait. This can go quick or take couple hours - it was the later in our case. Good time to watch the sun rise over the water if nothing else! After securing some vittles for the catch to be, we set course for the more open water. The day gave new meaning to why it's called fishing and not catching....If only Chuck Norris was there with us!We spent about 6 hours trolling before we caught up to a big school and were getting 3 and 4 hits at a time for a couple hours. In all, we caught something like 17 Tuna, most of which were in the 15-20 pound range. The waves weren't bad, but even so, it's never a bad idea to grab some Zofran or Dramamine before heading out. The boat was excellent! Good amount of space, small cabin to hang out in or plenty of sitting/sleeping space outside. There were 4-5 lines at all times and we just took turns reeling stuff in - after all, you're basically along for the ride with these dudes! We got back in around 4:30 and they let us keep a couple fish. In general you can keep one or two that are under specific weights. Also, they won't cut up a big catch, but they'll take plenty of pictures and really, you're after the social media post!Worth the trip, worth the money, nice dudes, solid fishing and a very memorable day!

Do not go here. We booked an 8 hour trip. Showed up 15 minutes early and were told "Well hurry up and get on the boat so we can go!". Before launching, we were given a 30 second speed talking briefing mostly saying to not puke in the toilet and "You will have to pay to fix it because we just told you." There was no conversation. No asking were we are from or what we want to catch.Once we left, the boat went 6 or more miles out and trolled 5 marlin-sized lures on top water for 8 straight hours until we asked to be taken back. We got 3 bites and landed one 200+ lb. yellowfin tuna. The lack of action was partially because they didn't make any attempt to adjust depth or color after the early morning run. Amateur fishing.Their rules were that we keep 40 lbs of fish and they can't let us keep anything over 100 lbs because it will be sold whole at the market. Since we only targeted 100+ lb. tuna, this trip was essentially a ride-along while they tried to make money. Zero effort was made to catch any fish we could keep. We just sat on a vinyl mat for 8 hours in 6-10 ft seas baking in the heat and getting thrown around the boat. When we got back, all of us made a point to remain polite, but the captain was very short and seemed offended. He mentioned pictures, but we realized he meant pictures for their advertising. We asked if the three of us could hold the fish and he sharply said "no". My brother asked if it was because he thought we would drop it and he again sharply replied "yeah". My brother sensed the attitude and said "alright man, chill". The captain then asked "What's your problem?" My brother said nothing and that he was being rude. The captain said "Alright, lets take this picture and get you guys out of here." Again, he meant their picture. We managed to take one of our own before he could get his camera. Finally, they didn't care to unlock the gate. They were more interested in going back out to fish again. We had to grab the captain to get let out. They hurriedly took off in the boat as we walked away.

By far the worst customer service I've ever been a part of. We spent $400 to transport our group to the dock and were treated like idiots, and were convinced to cancel our full day excursion. Absolutely look for another guide service if you want to be treated like a human being. I've been on many guided hunting and fishing trips from British Columbia to New Mexico, and these were the most unprofessional guides I've ever encountered. Never again, and I hope you don't make the same mistake. Customers deserve better than this. I'm truly embarrassed for this company. Live and learn.

The boat operator AJ is pompous, arrogant and dishonest. The website states that you can keep fish but when I asked AJ about keeping fish he told me that the owner Shannon doesn't allow it. The motors leak diesel exhaust into the cabin so you have to hang out on the deck. The seating is on thin vinyl pads on top of the hot engine compartments. Not very comfortable for a Hawaiian fishing trip. The worst part though was the operator. He lied to our group about the fish and when asked about the possibility of targeting other species he blew up in a diatribe about how I should be thankful that we had caught Ahi tuna and that No! There were no Ono, Marlin or Mahi Mahi to be caught. He obviously had one way of fishing in mind and damn paying clients who would suggest he do something else. It was embarrassing watching how poorly AJ treated his deck hand, yelling at him for the most inconsequential things. As paying clients on a sportfishing charter it made everyone uncomfortable listening to AJ verbally abuse the deck hand. Don't waste your money! Their are many options for sportfishing charters in Oahu. After having spent 2 days on the Live Bait, and having some reasonably good fishing but getting screwed out of a promised share of the catch, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ANYBODY CHARTER THIS BOAT!
