Glad we were referred by a friend to check out Lil' Spikers. I was looking for my girls to try volleyball but I really wanted to find something on a Sunday since Saturdays are pretty busy for us. We registered online when they had open registration. We then received an email closer to the start of the session. When we arrived for the first time, the girls were provided shirts and they got their name tags and got right into it. It's definitely a little harder with younger ones since their attention span isn't always there but they do try to keep them engaged and easier to call them when they have their name tags on. They are separated into three different groups. The beginners, returnees and most likely the better bunch. I don't know how they categorize it but that's just my guess. We attend the ages 5-8 group so I'm not too sure how the older classes work. For an hour and a half session, I feel that the money is worth it! I'd recommend it for anyone looking for an activity for their kids to try it out!

This is such a great place for the kiddos to learn volleyball skills and fundamentals in a clinic-like format. The kids are split into smaller groups with individual drill coaches. They start with warm-ups then go into skill drills. Safety, spacing, and capacity are not an issue during pandemic time. Parents are allowed to watch as long as you show proof of vaccination and pass a temperature check. Children, coaches, and parents are required to wear a mask. Coaches do allow water and mask breaks (with proper spacing). Coaches are professional and everything is organized. My daughter LOVES coming here and has so much fun. This is our second, 6-week session. I highly recommend!

If you are looking for a kids volleyball class/clinic then you really need to check out L'il Spikers. It's for ages 5-10. The clinics run for 6 weeks on Sundays. Then are off for about a month. There are three sessions on each Sunday with three groups each. Each group has 2-3 coaches so the kids get a lot of attention. They do a good warmup and then fundamentals. We've been to several other well know clinics in town but they don't give as much attention to the kids. The gym is nice, they provide coffee for parents and otter pops to the kids. All the perks aside Stephanie played for UH and coached at the high school level. They use different tools so it's not boring and keep things moving along. Check it out, everyone seems to love it'

I admit I may have exhibited tiger mom tendencies when it came to my first child. It started with classes at the aquarium and expanded to music class and swimming. By the time she reached 5, she was enrolled in gymnastics, piano, swimming, and on the wait list for hip hop. Since she wanted to drop gymnastics, I thought it was a good time for her to pick up a team sport. Her BFF from preschool was enrolled at Lil' Spikers Volleyball Academy, a clinic designed for ages 5-10 focusing on developing basic volleyball fundamentals through age specific drills that emphasize speed, strength and coordination. I immediately signed her up. She's in her second year and really enjoying it. The 6-Sunday sessions are hosted by Fiona Nepo-Fonoti and Stephanie Shigemasa at Pearl City High School Gym where they keep a 1:10 coach to athlete ratio. The kids learn the basics as they move through the levels: passing, setting, hitting, serving and digging. In the higher levels, they learn drills, court recognition and are introduced to team play. The coaches emphasize core, coordination and strength training. As a parent, it's super satisfying to see her progress especially since she's on the shy side and needs to experience being outside her comfort zone. I don't expect her to be a star athlete, but I want her to have the chance to experience being a part of a team. And the Lil' Spikers team can't be beat.

I found Lil Spikers from one of my son's preschool buddies. His mom posted on facebook and I had been looking for a volleyball league/team for my son. I played volleyball and loved it. I did the soccer and football thing...team mom, coach, etc. I ended up doing more work than my son and he was really just enjoying running around. This place is great!! Very enthusiastic coaches and they focus on the fundamentals of the sport verses the competitive aspects. There are no games and the parents get to interact a little during lessons. So happy I found this place and will be going back for the next session.
