My most recent visit to Leeward Drive Inn was not up to par with my last two visits and that is why I'm giving it 4 stars. Let me talk about the goodness of this place first before I elaborate on my recent order. The last two times I have come here, in total, I have ordered the chicken katsu. Loco moco, burger with fries, and fried saimin. All of these were really good and the staff that works here are so friendly and quick with their service. Food has never been an issue here as the food is always well cooked, even when you take it home. The chicken katsu has a crunchy outer batter and they give you a lot. But not only is the portion size great, but it's really a lot of chicken meat! Who can deny eating a yummy plate of katsu with that type of serving! The Loco Moco....omg....drool! Their gravy is on point, a good chunk of meat for the hamburger and of course, who can forget the runny egg. If you want a local dish, this is where it's at!The hamburger and fries...not only is it cooked well, but why would you even bother with a fast food joint? If you are a hamburger connoisseur, you definitely have to come here. For the fries, I'm more of a thin fries kind of girl, but i will say that these are well cooked that some or crunchy...but definitely you want to eat these before the burgers.Oh...and the fried noodles...talk about a blast to the past! I can't tell you how many times I have had fried noodles as a kid here. They are not oily, have a great portion of toppings (so you're not only eating noodles), and seasoned well. So yummy!!!Now for my latest order, which dropped my 5 star to a 4. I ordered the chicken katsu and machine chicken and from my previous statement, you can expect how excited I am to be eating the chicken katsu, unfortunately, this time around, the katsu was burnt, the chicken was thin, and it just didn't taste good. So disappointed...i couldn't finish it. Then I also got the machine chicken. Not too bad, but it was mostly batter (which was good) but not crunchy....almost as if it was sitting on the side or wasn't cooked all the way through. Although this was a bit disappointing, I'm not giving up Leeward Drive Inn...especially since they usually are on point. So give them a try and if your food is not that great...do give them another try. Could have been an off day...but not enough to keep me away!

Haven't been here for a maybe 30+ years but heard from a friend that their fried chicken was really good. She informed me to order "Fried Chicken plate, all noodles" so you wouldn't get the rice and salad. I ordered one plate to share with my husband...good move! It came with 3 very large pieces of chicken and half the plate was filled with fried noodles. My husband ate 1 chicken with some noodles and I ate 2/3 chicken with noodles for lunch. We had the leftovers for part of our dinner. The chicken was moist and the skin extra crispy...soooo good! They're also known for the fried noodles. I thought it was like other places I've tried but it was a little dry. Enjoyed the chicken a lot more.My friend also mentioned they're known for the fruit turnovers, coconut being her favorite. They ran out of the coconut so I ordered the peach for me and apple for my husband. Both were good... I'd order this and the fried chicken again.

Haven't been here for over 40years, I heard there a new owner. The service was excellent. The food was ok, sorry no taste at all. The Fried Noodles is what there's known for...Sorry no taste. I've tasted better in Wahiawa....Shige's Saimin. If you're in the Waipahu area and want to have a quick bite. Give this place a try. Aloha, Derek

12/22/24 We had a family member who gifted us a breakfast meal from Leeward Drive Inn delivered via Door Dash. So the review is just for the food since it was a surprise when we received it at our front door. We had an Ultimate breakfast plate. It was more than enough food for the 2 of us. From what I saw on their menu off the website, it was $12.49. Of course the Door Dash price was probably higher. This was an all meats type of breakfast which consisted of 1 Portuguese sausage, 1 bacon, 1 vienna sausage, 1 pork link, 1 spam, & 1 luncheon meat. A nice variety of breakfast meats. Not very many local places these days have vienna sausage or luncheon meat on their menu. In addition to that, there were also 3 slices of ham. I don't know if it was part of the plate or if it was a gifted side add-on. There were 2 fried eggs, about 2 cups+ of white rice, & one huge pancake that's bigger than your face. We also had 2 slices of white toast already buttered and with grape jam. We got 2 cans of Hawaiian Sun juice - passion orange. I haven't had that in a very long time, so refreshing! My hubby thought the breakfast was ok but didn't care too much for the pancake. I thought it wasn't bad at all. Grew up with luncheon meat, loved that. I liked how this plate had a good variety of meats for such a reasonable price. They did give a side container of pancake syrup & butter. Toast was ok, just wished they left off the jam & butter but included that separately. Eggs were on the dry side & cooked over hard. They gave way too much rice. It filled the whole bottom of the container. Pancake wasn't bad, it was more cakey tasting, sweet. Overall, a decent breakfast, reasonably priced, nice variety of breakfast meats. I hadn't been to Leeward Drive Inn in years since I do not live in the area. I remember the last time, we had their famous fried noodles & remember it being so ONO. They have a big menu with lots of choices. Give them a try, support local.

Happy 60th anniversary, Leeward Drive Inn!I wish I grew up eating from Leeward Drive Inn. I can only imagine how much better the food would be taste with nostalgia. I still think Leeward has some of the best fried saimin I've had. It's actually not so greasy, but still flavorful with choke toppings and noodles with a nice, chewy texture! Leeward is one of the best takeout spots in Waipahu. During my first visit a few years ago, I've already heard how popular the fried noodles were. Hubby and I didn't hear about anything else, so we took a chance and ordered a plate (all plates come with rice, mac/cabbage salad, and fried noodles!), but I can't remember which meat we chose. I do remember the fried noodles tasting amazing.A few months after our first visit, we went to a house "a hui hou" party to celebrate our friend moving to the mainland. The hosts of the party ordered a few party trays of our friend's favorite dishes from Leeward! Our friend is from Texas, but he didn't live too far away and would grab food from Leeward all the time. Out of all the trays, I only remembered seeing teri or bulgogi beef, spicy Korean BBQ pork, and of course, fried noodles. I remembered EVERYTHING tasted ono! When Leeward says "spicy BBQ pork," they mean "spicy!"A few days ago during lunch break, I randomly thought of Leeward Drive Inn and our friend's party. I called in my order for a spicy BBQ pork/teri beef mixed plate. The aunty who picked up the phone was so nice. I picked up my food and the plate was as tasty as ever. Hubby and I would come here more often if they had indoor seating as they only have a few picnic tables on their lanai. Leeward is still an awesome choice for takeout local grinds that so tasty and not so greasy! Waipahu seriously has great food options!Wishing you another 60 years, Leeward Drive Inn!
