I am participating In Aquazumba classes with instructor Kii Kahalewai. Kii is the most engaging, energetic, positive instructor and really makes me feel happy to be there. He is such a positive staff member, always smiling and from the very beginning he welcomed me so warmly which I really appreciated. We need more people like him!

I absolutely love this YMCA! It is because of the staff that really engages with members. They remember your name! Most of the workers are young adults and they are so respectful to all member! They worked and work so hard to keep our place safe. This is the best place to go for exercise and nutritional information. Very Ohana style. YouWon't regret it.

The YMCA staff here is amazing. They did a lovely job with our students for the SPLASH program that lets elementary students come and take swim lessons for a week. They watch the kids swim and place them in groups to teach them on their level. The kids had a lot of fun, and it was cool to watch them make so much progress in just a week! Some of the kids who couldn't make it 5 feet could then swim across the pool. They also taught the students about pool safety. Some of the instructors were from other YMCAs and come specifically for this program. The staff also entertained the students that needed to wait until it was their turn to swim with chants and Zumba. The staff took care of our kids and made sure the students were safe when an incident with another member occurred.Basically, come here because of the great staff!

This has been my second family for the past three years and I'm so very sad to leave because it has by far been the best "gym" I've ever attended. (I've been a member at every gym on the west side and this one excels beyond the rest. ) It has it's typical gym perks (ample equipment, variety of classes, child watch, etc.) but what makes it so awesome are the people. These awesome people include, but aren't limited to: Judi M., Deborah T., Charles D., Butch, Jocelyn, Luanna, Brandon L., Gabby, Aude, Lyndsey, Sheldon, Michelle, Betty, Crystal, Theresa, Byron, Rob, Marisol, Drea, Lynn....okay okay, pretty much the whole frigging staff! They're all wonderful! They all have different roles, but all serve one common purpose: to serve the members of the Leeward YMCA by making them feel welcome, like family, and to make sure you are comfortable. They fulfill their purpose. There is no judgement here on what you can bench or how fast you can run. Your fellow members are wonderful as well, courteous and respectful. The Leeward YMCA is just an overall good place to be. It's not your typical gym. Everyone is warm and friendly. My kids have grown socially as well as physically here, growing close with the staff and members. They have had the opportunity to attend swim classes and participate in many of the programs the ymca has offered during the year. (One of their favorites is every third Wednesday of the month bingo and potluck with the senior members. )As far as the other things that are important to people when selecting a gym, the Leeward YMCA meets those requirements: good hours, updated and sufficient amount of equipment, variety of classes, clean showers, child care availble (24 hour reservations required), nearby parking lot, playground on site, lap style swimming pool, and towel service. Other perks: book loan service, coffee station, swim/music/dance/martial arts classes available for children as well as adults. If you're looking for a typical gym where vulgar music is blasted, meatheads walk around intimidating newbies to run away so they don't have to share weights, some women are more concerned with being made up and coordinating workout outfits than working out, this is not the place for you. If you want to be somewhere where you are encouraged and motivated by staff and fellow members and fit in like family, then welcome to the Leeward YMCA. I'll greatly miss you all! !!!

I really enjoy going to the Leeward YMCA. It is so family oriented and everyone is so friendly. I attend several different classes several times a week and each is unique in its own way. They offer a wide variety of classes with several different schedules depending on the day of the week. The instructors are so awesome. They truly care about their members and their health. I especially enjoys classes that Lindsey's, Chrystal, Jocelyn and Jo offer. These classes are no joke. Be prepared to get you #%*! kicked. These ladies mean business and will bring it every time. I have taken many classes and have enjoyed the pain of every class the Y offers. Their are many classes to choose from depending on your pain tolerance and modifications are offered for those needing low impact moves. The classes are never boring because every week these instructor will mix it up.If you are looking for a gym that you can be yourself, meet great people and train with awesome instructors the Leeward YMCA is the place for you....

So Leeward Y is still awesome on my book. The big change is there is no more free towel service. I was bummed at first, but when you think of the bigger picture, they aren't a corporate gym with billions of dollars backing them up. But, it's no biggie. It's a little more better to bring your own towel and not share germs. Some fab changes have happened! They have a lot of new equipment that came from Central Y. (The sweatbox is here!!!) They also have implemented a LOT more classes, meeting groups and kid programs. (Ballet, choir, Dance etc...) What I really want to give kudos to is the staff. I think we had a THOUSAND questions when we starting a new workout routine which included weights. They are so helpful and knowledgeable. I'm so glad they have people that are there to help you with form and to show you how it's done correctly. I would have hurt myself for sure. So overall, I still enjoy the Y! The staff are super awesome. And if you really want a challenge, take the spinning, TRX or the total body conditioning class. It will kick the fat out of you! Lol!

YMCA has made such a positive impact in the community and it continues with their fitness facility in the old Sugar Mill in Waipahu. With tons of free weights, machines, cardio machines, swimming pool and classes, there is no excuse to be bored at the gym. I guarantee you the staff will make you feel like family. There is ample parking on both entrances and you can always feel safe in the area. The facility is located at the Sugar Mill with the old smoke stack intact. The top floor has the free weights, cardio and machines. The second floor includes the classes and the lower level has a swimming pool with another small fitness room. They also provide clean, white towels during your workout. You will find many classes available from Spinning to Zumba which invite all age and fitness levels. They are open: Monday-Thursday 5:30AM - 9:30PM Friday 5:30AM - 8:00PM Saturday 7:00AM - 6:00PM Sunday 9:00AM - 4:00PM During the month of February, please help donate to the ASC (Annual Support Campaign) to provide financial assistant to the community and their fellow members. The YMCA's core values include: 1. Caring 2. Respect 3. Responsibility 4. Honesty

Who doesn't love the GYM? I've been coming here for years, never put my gym card to dust lol. The staff is awesome, meaning they're friendly with big smiles. They also make conversations time to time which eh that is something good yah when you come in for work out. As of today I am so happy I finally can say I lost my weight that I been struggling for years & I'm so happy with the body I have. Thanks to this gym, thanks for my diets & a big pat on my shoulder for sticking to it. YMCA is the best. Especially Waipahu's one!!! Ps! I figure yelp it. Hopefully more people would join the Y instead UFC or 24 hours fitness. Best decision I made yet.

I called this location at 4 p.m. on a Monday. A recording said I was 7th in line and to wait for assistance. It has been over 2 hours and 15 minutes and I am still on hold. Why??!! This is ridiculous.
