I appreciate their story and glad they are able to open in Honolulu but let's be real about the food...It was bland, mushy, and a bit flavorless. I ordered the lengua burrito and the fillingl had the same consistency as the refried beans (and taste). They have 3 different salsas but honestly, they were underwhelming as well. The spicy ones were still quite mild and they all taste the same. If your appetite is decent, don't plan to have leftovers. The wait wasn't too bad and I do like that they posted up wait times for the busy downtown crowd on a time crunch.

One of the newest lunch shops to open in the heart of Downtown Honolulu in Pioneer Plaza is Lahaina Tacos. I was reeled in by the power of social media to check this place out. And since I work in the area and needed to get my steps in, I figured, well might as well head there for lunch. Upon arrival, there were a bunch of people surrounding the shop. There was a bit of a wait, but luckily they have a sign letting customers know the expected wait time - a plus for us Downtown workers!I decided to order tacos (birria $4.50 and chorizo $4.50) and ceviche de pescado (fish ceviche) ($12.00). The homemade tortillas held the taco together. The chorizo taco was a win for me as it was well-seasoned and flavorful. However, the birria taco was a little lackluster as there was not much flavor there. To accompany your meal, they offered 2 different salsas: 1 mild and the other spicy. Both were decent, but the spicy one didn't really hit that heat marker I would expect. The ceviche was also a win for me as it was very light and refreshing.Since it is a new spot and with the interest of a bunch of hungry lunch people, some items sold out quickly. For my case, it was the bowls and plates that were sold out by the time I got there. Plus parking might be an issue as it is in Downtown Honolulu.I'll give this place another go in the future as there are other things on the menu I would like to try and the staff are friendly. But I wouldn't say it's a must-visit just yet.

Generic street tacos. Single tortilla on tacos.I had a Asada taco and a Churrizo taco. Tasted dry and small partition. Plates were sold out.I will give them one more try for a quesadialla. They don't have enchilada or Chile relleno. No menudo. Try Maria Bonita on Hotel St. And or,Barrio on Fort Steet across bankruptcy courtI would also recommend downtown's to Aloha Tortilla Factory at Aloha Tower. Really good and fresh. It's a kiosk near HPU security office. Also for downtown there's Dos Jefe food truck on Bishop and across District Court.

Honestly a little disappointing. The food is not bad but it is not great and it is tough to compete as we get better Mexican food in Hawaii now. I would rate it a 3.5 compared to someplace like Dos Jefes, which i would rate a 5 for Hawaii. Note that my reviews are for just what i ordered. The biggest issue was the rice, which was bland and soggy/sticky. Mexican rice should not be like sushi rice and should be drier. The tortillas were soft and fresh and the chicken was good. If you are expecting a big doubled up, overstuffed burrito like you find in California this is not it. It is big enough for a downtown lunch but you won't have leftovers here. So i am happy that we have a Mexican food alternative downtown but personally, I will wait for Thursdays for my Mexican when the Dos Jefes truck is downtown.

Oh boy, we've been looking forward to this opening date for a while downtown. This place has a whole crew of legit Mexican employees and their food reflects the authenticity of the staff. I've only been here once and the line was long, but it was worth it. I had the Carne Asada burrito. It's 13 bucks and it was so delicious. The seasonings flavors are fantastic. It isn't huge, but it's well worth the price, and they have a little mini salsa bar with three options of salsa and pickled jalapeños. Can't wait to go back and try some of their marinated seasoned pork And their tortas.

I do love supporting local businesses, but I'm also going to write a honest review that the salsa and the tacos were pretty blend and flavorless. I think they could import the quality a little more. The tortillas were great as they make them fresh everyday, but the meat filling wasn't salty enough and didn't have much flavor. I used a lot of salsa too, but still thought it was blend. My coworker ordered a torta to try, but it looked more like a bahn mi, which was different from what he expected.

The food was super ONO! We tried the asada & pollo burritos, adobada torta and birria tacos. They have 3 different hot sauces for you to add, we loved them all. Really nice family run business, they are gonna do really good at that spot.

It is difficult to find good Mexican food on O'ahu, but Lahaina Tacos is one of the few that doesn't disappoint. The family who owns this small business previously lived and operated a restaurant in Lahaina, but had to relocate to O'ahu following the Lahaina fires. We tried the tacos, torta (they even bake their own bread!), fish ceviche, and quesadilla. Everything was delicious but my favorite was the carne asada quesadillas, which come with pico de gallo, guacamole and sour cream. Portions are generous and they also provide delicious sauces on the side, so make sure you add some sauce to your meal!Added some photos, but everything looked too delicious so most weren't taken until we had already begun enjoying the food!

Wonderful authentic Mexican food! Best in downtown for sure. I had a chicken burrito and my wife the birria torta. Even my 1 year old got in on the action by devouring the rice and beans. Definitely looking forward to more! Also, the family running the place are Mexican immigrants who are survivors of the Lahaina fires. Love supporting such a resilient family!
