First review if 2024!I brought my kids here just days after they saw the movie ' Migration'! They absolutely loved being here at the springs, I know, because they didn't even want to leave when I offered to take them to the playground just across the street. They looooved seeing the ducks and koi fish most! The pigeons were a bit much. We had sat in the little bleacher looking area, but had to move because all the pigeons started pooping after some kids fed them... I brought then to the Kunawai Springs specifically because I knew about the ducks, although I hadn't been here before! We had so much fun though! We're doing a 1000 hours outside challenge this year, 2024, so I've been looking into different outdoor activities for our family to partake in! We'll definitely be coming back here, the kids enjoyed it so much.Coming here brought back so much memories for many of our family members. I brought the kiddos here, took lots of pictures, and when I posted them, they all messaged me that they used to all come here when they were younger, and used to even swim I the pond?!?!Anyways, lots of fun! We'll be back!

My kids loved it! They enjoyed feeding the ducks, chicks, pigeons, and fishes. They especially had a blast playing in the playground. It was clean, not busy, and it was toddler friendly.

A small park with a duck pond and massive koi in the middle. The state does a good job of maintaining the trash cycling, so kudos! I come here often for my puppy to enjoy the scenery and tranquility of walking around the pond. I feed the koi and ducks some oatmeal which is a healthy diet for them, please don't feed them bread, koi pallets and oatmeal only! This is also a residential area so please be respectful and quiet. There are also a lot of pigeons so watch out for bird poop falling from the trees! This is such a great place to enjoy my Sundays.

If you are interested in Hawaiian culture and history, you may enjoy a visit to this park. It's about one block off of Liliha Street. This isn't a huge park like Moanalua Gardens of Kapiolani Park. It's a small area (maybe an acre of so) with sprawling trees and vegetation. Basically, this is an urban park centered on an ancient site.A rock wall at ground level surrounds a fresh water springs that gives the park its name. Ducks roam around and koi and other fish circle the springs. A bronze plaque opposite the springs gives a history of the location. This used to be a place of healing. The waters were said to cure various ailments. These springs nurtured the crops that Hawaiians grew in this area. There is nothing flashy here. It's not scenic like Diamond Head or 'Iao Needle. It's more a tranquil spot where you can contemplate what life was like long ago in Hawaii. There is few tangible remains of Hawaii's original culture. The temples, walls, fish ponds and paths from pre-contact times were mostly paved over or torn down, especially on O'ahu. It's nice to get out of a mall or off a highway for a while and appreciate something that has been here for hundreds of years.

Love love LOVE this park! Perfect place to entertain little ones for free, with a great duck pond (fed by Kunawai, the natural spring that the park is named for) on one side of the street, and a great playground right across the lane! The duck pond is super cute and ALWAYS has ducks--not to mention the completely uninhibited pigeons--so bring your bread crusts & crackers to share! We've also brought koi pellets before, and the ducks and fish seem to enjoy those as well. If you plan on using any of the benches around the park, be sure to bring some old newspaper, empty bags, or something else to sit on...did I mention there are pigeons??There is a small plaque near the pond, that explains the history and significance of the spring (native Hawaiians used it as a place of healing), and every once in a while, you'll see a handful of Japanese tourists here, on some kind of "hidden Hawaii" tour. NOT busloads of people, thank goodness...& the park itself is actually so small & simple, I doubt that that will ever be a problem. On the upper side of the park (with the playground), there's a big grassy area where you'll often see people walking their dogs...also a plus for little ones. And if you look along the rockwall border of the grassy area, you can follow the little stream--it's so small, I'm not sure you can even call it that--up to the source of the spring. We've seen tadpoles & teeny tiny frogs (about one inch long), made "boats" with seedpods from the trees, played with sleeping grass...so many fascinating things to see & do! I'm especially glad that the grounds & play structure are very well-maintained, and fortunately, we've never seen any "unsavory types" in the dozen or so times that we've been here. The play structure itself is just as fun for toddlers as it is for elementary-aged kids, and you'll usually see at least one or two little ones playing here, at any time of day. I'm guessing it gets busier after school gets out, but we generally go in the morning. Important to note, there are no restrooms here, no shade over the play structure, and maybe only one small water fountain that we've never used. There is a basketball court that seems to be pretty well-maintained, but I've never seen anyone use it (in the mornings). All in all, this cute little gem of a park has everything you could want for your kiddies, if you're looking for something outdoors & "no-tech" to entertain them. That said, I hope it never gets crowded here...but I couldn't keep this place a secret any longer!

This is my old stomping grounds from back in the day! Ever since 6th grade I've cruised here even waded in the green brown water back then. I remember throwing a cat inside for kicks. Oops yeah I was a mean kid. My sis and a friend also had a paper route on this street we used to make $300 a month! This tiny park has a mini waterfall if you can even call it that lol. The water has since been cleaned and purged I'm guessing since it's much clearer. I've seen several families of ducks and ducklings, pigeons, doves, guppies, small koi. Only street parking I want to say about 8 stalls. Months ago there was these 3 younger group of guys and one guy goes in the water to try catch the fish (not supposed to go in water) an older gentleman scolded him and almost turned into a fight! The older man said he's been cleaning up the place and these punks are the ones ruining what's left of nature. It was a sight to see. The young guy was hard head and didn't listen kept walking around in the water contaminating it. Ugh come on people grow up!Went back few more times and no punks, drunks, drugs, homeless.Hope it stays that way!

Its a nice and peaceful place. The local kids in the neighborhood hang out here. Families in the neighborhood bring there children to play and feed the ducks. 4 stars because the parking is limited, the park is small and there are no bathrooms here. Which also means, it won't be crowded here. LolI will come back again. A local lady from this area watch's over the ducks and came over to talk with us. She said some of the kids throw rocks at the ducks and she needs more eyes out here to help watch for that behavior. Now I'm a local babysitter when I come here.
