This place is disgusting. Roaches, smells like mildew, right above a nightclub and shopping center w restaurants!!! Worst part is they surprise you with a $37 a night "resort fee" and $250 deposit on your credit card as soon as you get there. That added $350 plus the $250, which made this place more expensive than a 4 star hotel. So we left. Could not stay here. Didn't give us our money back for the stay. Still waiting on refund of the deposit. It's a straight up dump!!! We wouldn't have stayer here for free. Only thing good about it is the location if you want to be on the main road. So decent location. But def needs to be remodeled before they can rent it. It is the definition of slum lord, ghetto. Grabbed flash light as soon we walked in to find bed bugs!!!! No way. Don't stay here. Bed is a cot that folds out of the wall!!! And it was all torn and dirty.

Everything was expensive in Waikiki. Hotels were one of them. Kuhio Banyan was the cheapest on my internet search. The location was excellent. The room was spacious. It was convenient for me to go to ABC stores and restaurants on Kalakaua Avenue. The night was a bit noisy due to a night club. The hotel was pretty much vintage. Overall, I give 5 stars to the hotel. Other Yelpers complain about a lot of things. But this hotel is the cheapest in Waikiki. If I had stayed in Hyatt, Sheraton, and other 5-star hotels, I would have to compare Kuhio with the 5-star hotels. But I did not have money. I can not complain about anything at Kuhio.

BRING YOUR EARPLUGS AND BLEACH! Hotels are supposed to do only a couple things. House you safely while you are away from home and give you a good nights rest. This hotel fails at both. SAFETY: The black mold in the shower is concerning and the neighborhood it's in has a ton of drunk tourists. That said, they do have a security guard outside the front door which was a nice touch. The one star I give should be assigned to this feature. SLEEPING: The bed is a thin, Murphy bed and low quality which sinks in the middle, comes with rough, scratchy sheets and only one thin, scratchy blanket and two flat hard pillows. None of that matters however as it's currently 2:30am and the club below us is pounding loud bass-filled dance music that even with earplugs, make sleep escape me. Don't get me wrong I love bass but this is terrible planning or zoning or something. We had room threenineteen and not sure if other rooms are better but avoid this one for sure.Edited to add:music stopped at 4 so I fell asleep at 4:30 am and they have an early check out at 10am but someone is doing construction on a room on my floor so I got 4 hours sleep. Close to everything in Waikiki but...Not the best hotel, nothing fancy that overlooks the beach... you have to walk some 5 mins to the beach, nor does it face a beautiful scenery, in fact, our window view is a side street taking you to Ala Wai Blvd... but it's in a great location and because we were out and about every day away from Waikiki we just used this place to shower and sleep. We stayed here for 4 nights. The Cheehoo's! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯* room amenities: air conditioning, a small fridge, and a kitchenette* Located in Waikiki Marketplace - you're a hop, skip and a jump from some Yelp recommended 4-1/2 Stars food places: Donut King, Marukame Udon, EbiNomi, Matcha Cafe Maiko, and Sato Seafood (5-Stars)!* International Marketplace - across the street (Liliha Bakery on the 3rd Level)* Royal Hawaiian Center - 5-min walk on Kalakaua Ave (more shopping and food!)* Waikiki Beach - 5 min walk The maikai ole: ¯\_('~')_/¯ * No parking! - if you have a rental car you're out of luck. The International Market Place garage offers up to 24-hour parking for $50 but it says "No Overnight Parking" ... huh?* If your room is just above the Playbar Waikiki Nightclub... you'll be hearing loud music until they close at 4:00a* One small elevator - 2 people inside at anytime * when you let the Murphy bed down it blocks the A/C unit... hot, hot, hot :(* No housekeeping, unless requested * Entrance to the registration office is in the middle of this food court/marketplace*Oh, and don't lose that green key that opens the side door after 10:00p. If you do it's $45 for them to come down and open the door for you and give you a replacement key. This is different from the room key.* Read the other reviews... Just don't expect a resort w/ pool amenities etc. This was a last minute booking. 2-1/2 Stars.Review #2627

Affordable spot for families or those in need of two beds. Cafe with light and on the go breakfast options downstairs. Mountain view, which from Waikiki means the sun rises into your room but at least you're walking distance from lots of restaurants, shops, the beach, the zoo, the aquarium, etc

This hotel is a scam;If you think this hotel is cheaper than others definitely you're wrong . When you are booking this hotel it seems the most cheapest hotel in the area but that's not true because you think it is total price but unfortunately it is not your final payment. If you have a nonrefundable cancellation reservation you will end up paying $40 each single day + $250 deposit + $5 for towels. SURPRISE elevator doesn't work that is the last information when you singed everything and paid all. I have a knee problem and I have to go upstairs every day fourth floor. I asked them change my room and of course they never have anything available.Asked other guests they told me elevator is broken since they checked in too.I brought all the bags to upstairs - no towel in the bathroom called front desk and I asked towel. They send me a house keeper and she wants to go in the room and check the bathroom if I have a towel or not. And guess what i found out they change for towels to beach that is why you need a prove you are a lier or not.it's not done yet, -bed is super uncomfortable and itching all night (hope not got bad bugs) - nothing is working in the room -if you need a hairdryer you have to go downstairs to pick it up, but guess what it's not working. Then you need to go across the street and buy hairdryer from target because them hair dryers from 1970s.. Wait not done yet. They don't have a reception service after 8 PM, if you lost your room key, you have to pay $50 if your room key doesn't work after 8 PM you have to pay another $50 to open your room door. Everything is old and dirty. And unfortunately, the worst part about it when I went to explain all these things the maneger told me whatever they do they cannot make me happy because I'm trying to create problems :) No "sorry " at all. Because guess what it was our faults we didn't read all those bad reviews. If you charge hotel service fee you better at least try to give a service. Definitely I don't recommend.

The staff were friendly and informative. The location was excellent for proximity to dining, shopping and beaches in Waikiki. No club noise on upper floor. Well stocked kitchen- dishes and utensils. The bed was not comfortable. The windows don't open. But the worst thing is the air conditioners. They have strips of old carpeting on top of them to catch the water from the units above. It's growing mold. Inside the AC unit we found black mold and fungus growing. So we didn't use the AC. All the AC window units we saw outside were moldy. If it weren't for that issue we would have been happy for the price but one of us got sick from the mold with a sinus infection. Staying Waikiki is fine for one day, but if you want a Hawaii Vacation you need to get a room with a balcony and ocean view or stay at a more rural location. This place is straight up downtown. You wake up, you're in the city. Period. It's a convenient and cheap place to stay but next time I'd get an Airbnb.

To me it felt like I was staying at a friend's apartment; the amenities aren't perfect, but it was comfortable and had everything we needed for the price. I'd definitely stay here again for the ideal location and the friendly service. Some cons: I usually stay at Hampton Inn or Comfort Inn, and in comparison this definitely wasn't as fancy. It was a bit of a mixed bag. There was no parking which was a major bummer. We had to use an expensive parking garage at a hotel down the street - and we got lucky that they even allowed us to stay there given we weren't guests at their hotel. They give you a set of keys to open the door to enter the hotel, and then a keycard to access your room. Definitely an adjustment when you're used to just using a keycard for everything, and since you have to use the keys to open the hotel each time (and the lock is a bit finicky), but you get used to it. It's a bit like opening your front door at home. Checkin ends at 10 PM, so if you need to check in after a certain time, you need to call the front desk ahead of time. They'll give you special instructions on how to get in. In regards to amenities, some of the aspects that made it feel more like a friend's apartment than a hotel were due to the fancier elements were lacking. For example, no complimentary hotel soaps, shampoo, or conditioners are included in the bathroom. There was hand soap by the sink which is good, but there was also a hand soap dispenser in the shower... which was a bit odd? The shower head wasn't the best, the water takes a while to heat up, and the handles were super squeaky - but eventually it warmed up and the water pressure was good. Pros:First, the location was incredible. Everything was very walkable. There's a wide selection of foods in the plaza out front, a mall with a large food court and shopping options right across the street, and stores on every corner. It's also very close to locations that we planned on visiting, like the Honolulu Zoo and Pearl Harbor. In regards to amenities, it had everything we need, even though it wasn't fancy. It seemed well cleaned, there was nice lighting, and there was clean fresh bedding and towels. There was also a kitchenette with a small stove, microwave, mini-fridge, dish soap, paper towels, plates and dishes to use, and a coffee maker with teas/coffee. There was also a table and chairs, two couches, a pull out bed, and a flatscreen TV. Additionally, the service was great. Friendly front desk staff, room service was attentive to our needs when we needed extra towels, toilet paper, or needed to take out our trash. Overall, I'd absolutely stay here again just for the location, and because even though it's not perfect, it gets the job done, and the service is good.
