Kiani's Original Guava Chicken

Kiana's is the best Guava Chicken on Island, the Staff is friendly and always welcoming.

We lucked out when we went on 12/20/22, they only open until they sell out of stuff, go early in the morning before lunchtime. Sometimes they sell out before they are "closed" so we missed it the last time we were in the area. The chicken tastes like huli huli style, and the guava cream sauce is so good! Chicken was moist and juicy, sauce was just right. My son said it's the best chicken he's had in a long time! My daughter never got any because we ate it all before we even got home.

Small business owner! Not open for dine in due to covid restrictions.Would def recommend to get togo when you are in the area. Such a sweet lady and the food portions are HUGE! Easily can be shared with 2 people.We tried guava chicken with salad + mac/cheese side. The food was made fresh to the order and delicious. They accept cash only. Park in gas station across the place or street park.

Got the Kalbi Short Ribs & Guava Chicken mixed plate and the Guava Chicken & Shrimp plate. You get a choice of toss greens or Mac salad. Both were good. Kalbi was tasty but wish it were thicker and more tender. The chicken was tasty but was just a tad dry. The shrimp was good- just wished there was more of it. Nothing really major to complain about here. Good eats!

Updated review. I Had to delete the original review of this place. No don't recommend this place. Very rude owner. Street Parking sign said 2hr parking starting 0700. Long story short. Walking back to my vehicle he asked if it was mine and I said yeah. Next thing he said was "gtfo of here". After that, nope. Glad friends on social media and troops from my unit listened to me and now they won't go here.

My buddy was okay with letting me take him around to places even though he lived here. Kiani's was the one place that he insisted on take me to because he said it was the best Guava Chicken. We parked on the street and waited out front and someone came by to take our order. I went with the large chicken plate with the rice and mac salad and then it was the waiting since everything was cooked to order. While we were waiting Kiani came out to talk story with us a little bit, his eyes still red from the smoke in the kitchen. The food came out a few minutes later and with no other places to eat it we went back to my friend's truck. I hear guava chicken and I think overly sweet/syrupy like Orange chicken, but I was wrong. The chicken here was moist, slightly sweet and with the mayo? Thumbs up. My friend wouldn't shut up about the mac salad. I've had mac salad in Hawaii before but I have to say that he was right, this was some of the best I've had and everything went so well together, the richness of the mac salad, and the slight sweetness of the chicken with greens and rice to mellow it all out. Good choice.

So to start they actually close at 1pm not 2pm and they are usually sold out before then. We have called a few times around 1215 and been outa luck.The mahi burger is so good!!! The Mac salad is on point. The rice is made to perfection. The guava chicken is absolutely perfect.... Who knew considering it's in the name!The garlic shrimp was perfect as well.Great food, great service, and great prices! Everything pictured was $36. Not bad at all.Stop by early and give this place a try you won't be disappointed!Cheers.

I would fly to Hawaii just to come here. The food is fantastic and the people have that aloha charm. The restaurant is not fancy or upscale - just down to earth non pretentious. It is almost hard to find nestled between auto shops. We stopped by after a visit to Dole. There are 5 tables inside and 22 chairs. The dinning room was filled with navy people so we knew it had to be good. Meal options are on the board and you order at a small counter. Guava chicken, is the specialty. Shrimp scampi is a popular north shore dish and they also served a beef dish. They offer small and large entrees. We selected two large for three of us to share. We selected the guava chicken ($10) and shrimp ($15) dishes. Meals come with steamed rice and choice of salad or macaroni salad. We took one of each. The sofa options range from $1-2 and are in cases in the dinning room. We selected Hawaiian sodas.The food took awhile to prepare and our anticipation grew as we saw others receive their meals. The chicken dish came out first - served in a styrofoam box. The boneless chicken was plentiful coated with their special teriyaki sauce, tender and grilled to perfection. It was like candy. Delicious. The shrimp came out a few minutes later piping hot. I was so excited that I forgot to take a picture. The shrimp were colossal served in a garlicky butter sauce. What's not to like? My taste buds were in heaven. The rice was topped with the garlic sauce. The macaroni salad was equally incredible. Creamy with bits of carrot. The chef came out and engaged in friendly banter with us and welcome us. The Hawaiian charm was plentiful. You need to get there early to get a table but people are friendly and will sit with strangers. So you need to go by a ticket and fly here now and drive north about a half hour from the airport. A truly wonderful experience.
