We love visiting this little factory store where you can watch the workers make the little bites of heaven by hand. Workers are super nice and friendly. You can buy their mochi at Don Quijote but they are soooo much fresher and softer when you buy them directly from this little store. Parking can be a bit difficult here though. We tried the peanut butter (our favorite), pumpkin, red bean and plain. All were delicous. Both Kansai Yamato and Fujiya Hawaii have wonderful mochi. We went to six different stores to try the mochi and these were our two favorites. We couldn't decide which store we like better so we will just keep going to both!

For all you mochi fans, I have a mochi joint you should check out!Located at the Puck's Alley neighborhood center, there's a little mochi shop called - "Kansai Yamato". Easy to find, as this store is just by the private parking lot entrance of Pucks Alley. Or if you know where Betty's Burger is, Kansas Yamato is just next door. Kansai Yamato specializes in mochi, but what's special about this location is that they sell mochi with fruit fillings (which I believe you can only get it at this store).Sure, I've seen Kansai Yamato's mochi products sold at the various local supermarkets around Oahu, but the items sold in the supermarkets are the common items. For the unique items, ya gotta come to the Kansai Yamato shop. The workers at Kansai Yamato were friendly, and I must say that they're highly skilled at their craft.

It's a really small storefront so it can be easily missed. Delicious manju. The kinako ones could have been more flavorful because the peanut coating was bland. The other pieces were very good. You can see the workers producing the mochi-based desserts.

I'm obsessed with mochi and this is definitely the place to go in Honolulu! They have all the flavors: mango, taro, honeydew, strawberry, etc. My sister and I ordered a lot and they made sure we got the freshest batches and gave us some freebies. It was really lovely!

I've came here a couple times now. It is located in Puck's Alley right at the parking entrance. They do accept various forms of payment. This is their actual location where they make the mochi. You can see the ladies hard at work. The space is very small and only fits a few people inside. They have some mochi items for sale. Usually they have the same options. Not a lot of choices. However, we only end up buying pb mochi, so that is always there. Even though you can buy this in almost any supermarket, the mochi is so soft and fresh here! It is worth it to make the trip to the source if you want melt in your mouth mochi.

Mochi Mochi...Hello to Kansai Yamato and this Puck's Alley location is where it all happens and this Moiliili/University location is very cozy since obviously the kitchen takes up majority of the space but thankfully they do have some space to see everything that they make here.First you see a refrigerated display case filled with their fresh fruit items like Dango which are plain mochi on skewers with some coated with a sweet soy glaze or the Strawberry N Cream for those folks like me who's not a huge fan of the Azuki beans have many other options of mochi as well.In the back is a counter with the other traditional mochi like the Ohagi which is the inside out version of mochi, Sakura which has the actual sakura leaf wrapped the beautifully pink mochi along with many other traditional and flavored mochi for a fun selection to choose from. All these are treats that many of us grew up and loved for generations but is great to see the fun twist they come up with but don't forget to grab a drink as well to pair with your sweets though I really wished they had more tea versus coffee or sodas which I did get their "Blue Hawaii Soda" that was just too sweet for me and was done on the second sip.The staff is here is very patient and friendly as I couldn't decide and didn't even realize that the delivery was waiting for me as this single path entry was the only way in lol but thankfully I was done and ready to be on my way.Thank you!

I can't get mochi as fresh as this on the mainland. It's readily available, abundant, and with no wait lines. Normally in the Bay Area, there's a line and they always run out. So glad I found Kansai Yamato! Everything I tried was delicious with the perfect mochi texture and not too sweet. Fresh mango was especially good! I was greeted and offered help right away. We were surrounded by mochi so I know they are busy shipping them out by the boxes. I now know why! Highly recommend!

Planning one day ahead for Girls' Day, I remembered the delicious Stawberry cream mochi my friend had given us, and ran down to this new mochi place on University Ave next to Nijiya Market. Loved the free one hour parking in the lot and that I was able to run in and out. It's more of a mochi production room with many hands busily making mochi, which then get packaged and placed onto the counters for sale. I loved that they had cool items that I had never seen or tried before like the sliced strawberries on cream and azuki beans and mochi on a skewer. Both pretty and delicious! I mistakenly thought Ube crumble would have sweet potato in it, but the Ube is in the purple mochi outside and the crumble is chocolate cookie inside. I also grabbed the strawberry cream, a chichidango set with various colors and flavors, their popular peanut butter mochi, and a cute little Girls' Day 3 piece mochi set (with a sakura mochi, the pink, green and white diamond shaped mochi, and a strawberry mochi) in a heart shaped box. I was very happy that they stuck Girls' Day stickers on the boxes to honor the day. Their mochi is soft and thin and the cream is not too sweet. It met all my Girls' Day mochi needs!Service was friendly and patient as I tried to decide what to buy.

Ono for chi chi dango and mochi of all varieties? Then stop by Kansai Yamato. The products are sold everywhere, Sam's Club, Don Quixote's, Times Supermarket and more. I went to where they make the goodies here at Puck's Alley. If you want Mochi made just a few minutes ago, come by here!I picked up the peanut butter and chocolate mochi and chi chi dango. The ladies were busy making mochi when I entered the store. I was greeted by a friendly lady who took my order and wrapped up my freshly made mochi. She even gave me a sample of Warabi mochi to try! This place is small but full of deliciousness and all types of mochi and other goodies to try!Support local here!
