TL;DR- Good vibes for an above average pa'ina with friends or family- Above average cuts of sashimi, loved the Dark Dragon roll and your standard appetizer choices like a crispy shiso leaf- The parking lot is shared with the gym and Hawaiian Brians so you gotta walk through 24 Hour Fitness to get back to your car after you've grubbed which isn't the most pleasant experience Bestie and I were looking for a place to eat (as all good stories start). We landed on getting sushi but hitting up Genki's just felt too... basic. This was my bi-annual visit home to Hawaii and I already went did my usual dash to Yanagi Sushi and Doraku. Get plaaany places for pa'ina but I guess we were just looking for a certain je ne sais quoi that fit the vibe and had good food-- and it seemed like Kanoya fit the bill. I like to think that our experience at Kanoya was like Yanagi but make it more happy hour and more cozy than what you'd expect at Doraku. The music in there was definitely on the louder side but I couldn't complain because they were playing 2000s R&B bangers. The servers were friendly and attentive. Here's what we got:- 2 Oysters Shooters: Your average oyster shooter, was definitely heavy on the mirin so it was a little salty but nothing concerning- Shiso Crisps w. Sashimi (1 order comes with 2):Wasn't as crispy as I was hoping but the sashimi on top was really good- Dark dragon roll:Satisfying roll! The spicy crab meat with the unagi sauce was delicious! Good pairing. This was also our only rice roll so it helped cut through all the protein we were having - Ocean sashimi platter:Sashimi itself was average. I wish the menu listed out the fish included in this. The menu just states, "5 pieces of assorted sashimi, served w. white rice." Also, this was definitely not 5 pieces. It was 5 different cuts with 3 pieces each-- not a complaint just wasn't expecting this much food. The presentation was also so pretty. When it came out, bestie and I felt like we were on a first date lol!

Came here in a group of 3 on a Wednesday night with reservation and was seated immediately. Parking is same as 24-hr fitness, up the ramp. You need to take stairs and walk through the gym a little. I paid $12/3 hr. Honestly, the sushi here is okay... Not good, not horrible but okay. Because I consider it "okay", I think it is well over-priced. But considering the location, I am not surprised at the prices. Our table ordered the shiso crisps with sashimi, oyster shooters, misoyaki butterfish, angry dragon roll, firecracker roll, and kanoya roll. I wanted to order nigiri but my 2 friends who have been there before already gave me a heads up that the nigiri was alright and to just order rolls. Shiso crisps were not crispy at all. Tasted like they were sitting out. Hard to tell quality of oyster shooters since they come mixed with a sauce but I did like it! Love it? No. But I liked it (: butterfish cooked well, tasted as it should taste. Rolls were mediocre... I've had better at same prices. If you're new to sushi or not a big fan but want to try, sure, this place is ok to try. If you're not new to sushi, I would pass and try a different place instead. Ok on to other things, overall place was cute, nice decor. Service was good, friendly. Food came out timely.

My daughter ordered a sushi roll and some seaweed salad. I ordered the beef teriyaki. I'm not into seafood or sushi but my daughter enjoys it. We both agreed that this was place just "ok". We have had better Japanese food in the SF Bay Area.

My wife and I made reservations here for Valentine's Day dinner. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted right away. They had explained that a lot of people were running late so the schedules been pushed back. We were fine with waiting, we were early anyway. The gentleman then asked if we wanted to look at the menu while waiting and he could take our orders so that our food would be ready by the time our tables are ready. We were impressed with the staff's customer service , informing us on updates as well as time efficiency. We only waited for about 15 minutes, we were seated right on time for our initial reservation time. The food was so delicious, it is now my favorite sushi spot, fresh quality sashimi. We ordered the Boat sushi for two , California hand rolls and shrimp tempura. Also an A+ for presentation.

In a crowded market of Japanese food options, I feel like this place might struggle. We thought we'd give it a chance knowing that this spot turns over often and needs a following for establishments to last here. Even the venerable Odoriko couldn't make the location work. Food options here lean towards tourists, I think. Lots of unusual/odd sushi combinations and unfamiliar flavors. Green salads are only served with one dressing option, a scary sounding "fruit dressing" which was totally indescribable. Very thick, very odd. We passed on the furikake chicken appetizer as it apparently came with a "coconut condensed milk" sauce. Hmmm. The shrimp tempura sushi roll was fine but had lettuce wrapped inside and a good unagi sauce drizzle on top but also a sweet flavor that I couldn't place at all. Odd.The pork tonkatsu ($30) was THIN and coated in so much black pepper that it was actually spicy. It wasn't right IMHO.We may have just ordered wrong or been here on an off night. Kanoya's not for me but the place was pretty busy on a Friday night so I think they're doing just fine.

Honestly felt it was A-OK sushi! We shared the Dark Dragon Roll which was spicy crabmeat and avocado inside; topped with seared salmon, eel sauce, spicy mayo, and crunch - our favourite of all the rolls we got. We each got a lunch set and I got the sweet potato roll, spicy salmon, and spicy tuna roll. I felt it was just okay sushi, was expecting more tasty and fresher fish. The miso soup was good and the service was really nice. There weren't that many people there when we went for lunch.

We went for our anniversary on a Friday night and we were so shocked how empty the place is! Because of that, service was quick and very friendly but it just felt so empty. Parking is alittle weird bc you park by 24hr fitness and walk into the gym and downstairs but there's signs and people are usually nice if you look lost! Ordered lots of sushi, wouldn't get the calamari again, it was just alright. But would definitely come again!

My eyes were bigger than my stomach when I ordered from here on postmates so I couldn't finish it all but everything was delicious! Sushi sashimi combo was so fresh and the house gyoza were bomb! If I'm ever back in Honolulu I'll definitely be back!

We ordered the Kani Salad, French Fries, Shrimp & Vegetable Tempura, Hamachi Wonder Roll, Masago & Tobiko, and the Ninja Roll.I enjoyed everything we ordered because the quality of fish and food was great and friendly service. I love when I don't have to ask for water refills! The music was also a bonus because I love R&B vibes. I would definitely be coming back here again. The parking was super easy to find and is right in front of the restaurant, but has a very limited amount of stalls.
