Our boys team volunteered at this place as their team bonding on 2/1/25. Great place to give back. Noticed lots of club teams and non-profit groups come out to help out this lo'i. But the kicker at this place is that they do sell some fresh poi, kulolo, steam laulau, steamed Talo, and even desserts too...I hear their kulolo crunch is to die for. I did buy their poi and kulolo...omg, this is the best kulolo I ever had. What's soooo good about this kulolo is that its sweetness is perfect...not too sweet and I love the texture that it has that grainy texture of the Kalo. Very fresh and so delicious...perfect for poke. I noticed lots of locals they pull up just get the poi and whatever they sell as I mentioned earlier. They also have some nice gears. They do take credit card and Venmo for the gears. Staff are very welcoming and very nice. Can't wait to go back for more fresh kulolo and get some of the kulolo crunch and poi as well.

I go here to help with maintaining the lo'i. The work is hard but, there is allot of satisfaction when you see the work that's completed. I'm usually there with friends and that makes the time go by faster. I also rather be there when it's overcast and there is a light rain. You're going to get dirty so rain will help keep you cool.If you have the chance this might be something worth trying. It's not easy but very rewarding.

So much fun!!The last time I had been to a lo'i patch to volunteer was four years ago with the YMCA, and it was an amazing time of getting down and dirty. I wanted to come back to volunteer on my own, but COVID (....) happened and so did life... but my schedule recently cleared up to help out at this one!Reserving a slot to volunteer was easy on their sign up genius link on the website. Lo'i workdays happen on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, and the first Saturday of every month. I came on a Friday morning. The group was assigned to plant lo'i and clear out auwai (water channels). I loved mucking around in the mud, talking story with those around me, and truly being one with the 'aina. It reminded me how vital doing this was- it helps to perpetuate Native Hawaiian culture and practices, helps Hawai'i become more self-sufficient with its food supply, and it helps to center/humble you. I'm super excited for my next workday with Kako'o 'Oiwi! Message me if you wanna join!

We ordered two poi bags, 3 mountain apple trees, and three pigeon pea trees. The pick up was quick and organized. The seedlings are healthy and poi delicious! Great value!!!
