"Da Parade is Back!"Another sign that normalcy is trying to make comeback during these still trying times. The 2022 Kaimuki Christmas Parade marched off on December 1, 2022 to the delight of hundreds- the crowds stretched from 3rd avenue to Koko Head ave, along Waialae avenue . Marching band units, trolly units, local schools, community and business marchers all came to give what the public had missed for two years. While not as fancy or elaborate as many parades, the Kaimuki Parade embodies that neighborhood feel and is one of the oldest Christmas parades in Hawaii. The highlight of the parade is the tree lighting above Kaimuki fire station which takes place after the end of the parade. This tree can be seen as a beacon to Kaimuki town and will be viewable till the end of the year. A beautiful night for the parade, no rain, the air was crisp. It was a night for enjoyment for everyone. Welcome back Kaimuki Christmas Parade.

Hawaii's oldest parade 75 years young.Lots of businesses, school marching bands, dance troops, ROTC and of course Santa! There are commentators and singers dotting the Waialae route.A real family affair geared toward the little kiddies. A chance to dress up in your X-mas gear!Only downside is Waialae Ave is not closed down completely so there is still 2 way traffic traversing next to the paraders. Also, only one side of the road is the main audience to the performers.

The Kaimuki Christmas Parade. It's an annual event that draws many residents to this time honored tradition. This Christmas Parade showcases many of the local organizations and schools that make up Kaimuki town and proud to have seen it since the 1980's, when I myself was apart of the parade, so many moons ago. It was when Liliuokalani Elementary school was still existing and they had a spot for us in the parade, but that time has long since past us by.The Kaimuki Christmas Parade has long been with the Kaimuki community as long as I can remember. Being a kid doing the parade route, it's always been a special thing for me, after all these years, it still is one of those things where it will remain with me till I get old and senile. It's usually on the 1st Thursday of December, where the community of Kaimuki at large helps usher in the Christmas season and bring a generous dosage of love, prosperity, and the good ol Christmas cheer to everyone and everyone. The Christmas parade is older than many folks in the Kaimuki town community. It usually starts at 6pm and winds its way slowly up about 1 mile or so before finishing up around 8pm. It starts at St. Louis high school / Chaminade University shared campus and goes north towards Koko Head Avenue. It ends somewhere there, although I've forgotten where. Over the years, it's always nice to see this display of good will and Christmas cheer within the local community of Kaimuki. I do love to come back and witness the community and the local kine spirit that Hawaii provides. You can see the streets lined with many families who love to see Santa and the many people who put on the parade possible. While there are not fancy floats or anything that fantastic, it's a community coming together to usher in the Christmas and holiday season. Many people were out in force on the latest incarnation of the parade, which was held in 12/1/2016, a Thursday, which was a nice night for a parade. I was glad that it did not rain for once. Since any and all public parades are for the community and community pride, you don't have to worry about admission fees, so it's completely free! As far as parking goes for the parade, your best bet would be to come early! Like really early. Like before 5pm early, just to secure prime parking spots in the local residential areas. That will be your best bet, since many people will come during that time or after you, so it's good to get there early, so you won't miss out on your prime parking options. It was cool to see Santa Claus in past years, riding on top of a big Fire Engine. He was usually at the tail end of the parade route, but this year, I didn't see him. After seeing the St. Louis football players walking by, I saw the police car sweeper mentioning that the parade is over and have a good night. I didn't see Santa in his usual glory, giving candy to everyone and anyone who believes in him. I'm sure he was there, but not in a fire engine like I had anticipated him to be. Oh well. I was on the opposite side of the street watching the people go by. It was a festive scene, with many people cheering and shouting out friends who are marching with the parade itself. I bet he was still there in some capacity, but I didn't see him. Wish I did though! That is always a good thing to have that community sense of pride going and it makes me happy to be apart of the Kaimuki town community. Having lived here for over 30 years, this community has brought out the best. Over the years, I always enjoyed the Kaimuki Christmas parade and I look forward to the next one in 2017.It's sponsored by the Kaimuki Businesses Association. 5.0 stars for the community involvement who makes it special year after year.Support local!A+

This community parade was such a nice surprise! It was our first time going and it did not disappoint.Although the parade was going to start at 6:00 pm, we planned to get there early to find parking, eat, and find a good spot to watch. We parked by around 4:00 pm and headed east on Waialae Avenue to find a place to eat. Zippy's chili was on our mind and we were on a mission. As we made our way down Waialae, a lot of people were already staking out their spots with mats, foldable chairs, etc. to get the best spots for the parade viewing. For us newbies, we were wondering why people were only lining up on the Makai side of Waialae Avenue -- only the East-bound lane is blocked off for the parade participants; contraflow lanes are on the opposite, mauka-side of the street. After eating our fill at Zippy's, we realized that our seats were a prime spot to watch the parade. It was around 5:45 pm, so we decided to sit tight and see what we could catch from inside. We ended up moving outside closer to the street to hear the music and the participants. It made more sense why everyone picked out their spots close to the street as soon as the local businesses, financial institutions, and community members walked down Waialae Avenue. Many of them were handing out holiday candies and goodies out to parade viewers. The coolest items that we saw being given out were a flashing finger light from Aloha Pacific Credit Union and 3D-like glasses from Central Pacific Bank that made any point light source into snow men!The length of the parade was surprisingly pretty long, and you can tell how much Kaimukians love their community! It was such a nice and laid back event and I'm glad that we decided to go this year. Overall, a fun, festive, and family-friendly event that's totally worth checking out if you've never been before. It's also a great opportunity to explore the Kaimuki community!

Kaimuki Christmas ParadeIt's the most wonderful time of the YEAR!!!!!!You have to hand it to little neighborhoods like Kaimuki, the businesses and community show up in force to make sure that keiki have a wonderful time even when we live in Hawaii were we do not have snow- we still have great holiday cheer for all.The parade closes the 'up on the hill' area- where all of the great restaurants are- but it more than makes up for it in the amount of people that put their time and energy into making a great event for kieki to enjoy- parents enjoy it too.Traffic is redirected and parking is a bear but for those of us in the area it is so much fun for 1 evening.

Got to get here early for parking. We found parking around 4:00pm. The parade does not start until 6pm. Decided to get zippys during the wait. When the parade started, zippys was a good spot that was not over crowded. The parade was simple, long, and fun. I like how the people in the parade gave out cool items.
