Price was a little steep but this was some of the best poke I've had in a while. Ahi was fresh and the service was really quick. Popped in on my lunch break and was out the door in under 3 minutes. Small little shop located in China Town. One poke bowl + 15% tip came out to $23 but you are paying for what you get.

So they do have limited hours but believe me, it's worth it. They are super nice and down to earth -- but let's talk about the FOOD! Had a poke bowl with shoyu ahi and spicy ahi (would have had the Kahiau Special but they were very sadly running with no limu today). I normally don't get spicy ahi because I've never been impressed with any spicy ahi I've tried elsewhere but decided to give it a try here just so I could try more of this place's offerings. Plus salmon isn't an option here. Okay so the spicy ahi poke was really, really flavorful and I greatly enjoyed it. They use something different, I think a sweet chili aioli or something to make it spicy and it WORKS. My only quibble on it is that the flavor is a wee bit too much for just one scoop of rice. The regular shoyu ahi poke comes with the shoyu separate in a small container with lid which lets you see how fresh the naked ahi is. That is to say, really fresh! Not much to say about ambiance as it's a takeout place but how they've arranged things seems to work. There's also a great bakery next door which can help to cut through the saltiness of the spicy ahi poke.Thank you, Kahiau Jerky Co., and I'll be back for that ahi limu poke -- count on it! And that spicy ahi poke too, yeah, I'm a convert now.

I usually see a line when driving by this place so I wanted to try their poke out. The poke shop is located right across the street from Smith Beretania park. It is a small shop that is a grab and go place, no indoor or outdoor seatings. I got the poke bowl with Kahiau special and spicy ahi. The Kahiau special is like the shoyu poke with limu and onions. It was good. The limu was crunchy but there were quite a lot that I had to pick out a few. The spicy ahi did have a fishy taste that I couldn't ignore. It didn't taste as fresh so I had to throw away the rest of it. The spicy sauce was alright. Overall, not the best poke bowl I've had. The owners were really friendly and service was very quick.

Found this place in a pinch while roaming around Chinatown. I had the salmon poke which was delicious. I was really craving some laulau so I got the pork laulau with it. I thought it was a little bit dry and the small plate of one scoop rice/poke/laulau totaled 20$. This selection was simple but overall I felt like it was a hole in the wall gem. Would return to try other items.

Thank you yelpers for helping me find new places to try! I was craving poke and I have my favorite go to place in Oahu fish market, but thought I'll give someone where else a try. Well shucks I went at 1:30ish and they didn't have any poke left but the friendly lady (owner?) said she could make me some. I figure I'll just try the Imari bomb they had and of course I picked up a bunch of other things to try - lau lau, picked ogo, and kimchee cucumber. Inari bomb - I don't know if they were supposed to season it after I ordered it and forgot? It was fresh fish but there was no seasoning on it. I was a little confused when I bit into it. It seemed be like the left over fish scraps from making the poke but it was plain, besides the sweet inari and rice. Lau lau - I'm such a Hawaiian food snob because my grandpa made it from scratch. I mean he made kalua pig too using a traditional imu in his yard. First bite I thought I was slightly salty, but once I mixed it with hot rice (didn't realize they sold poi too,Next time!) it was perfect!! There was no fatty pieces and the meat was chunky pieces with the right balance of healthy yummy green laulau leaves. My new go to place for lau lau!!!! Ogo - man this one is hard. We've been eating fresh and picked ogo for years and so I associate a specific flavor with picked ogo. This wasn't quite it, but again I'm highly biased to a specific taste. I added splashes of vinegar to give it that taste. The ogo itself is perfectly soft but crispy and crunchy! Super good and fresh!! A really nice chili kick too that is perfect. I would order again and just keep adding some apple cider or Japanese vinegar to it. Kimchee cucumber- again I have a specific way I like it and the only place I loved it closed during covid. It's not Korean style but more shoyu (?) based without the chili kick. I love local business and there are more things to try here!! I will be back to keep sampling :)

Cutest little poke shop! I asked for a recommendation & they were super kind, it was delicious! We got there right before they closed, we lucked out & they gave us the spicy poke bomb to try. 10/10 ( I could be totally wrong on the names of items but every single thing was soooo good!)

Been seeing quite a few posts on this place and I am always looking for another good poke spot so I dragged my daughter out of the house for a little adventure. The place is tiny and the street parking is a bit difficult but there is parking. They have a very small shop and the display case just has about 5 selections of poke. We decided on the Kahiau Special and the spicy ahi. I wanted to try the little poke bomb things but the elderly gentleman in front of us bought the rest!!! 8 trays!! So I'm convinced they're good! I also got a container of fresh poi. Might just be my new favorite poke place for the Kahiau special. I like to taste how fresh the fish is, and not so much the sauce so this was a winner for me! The poi was so fresh and smooth! If you're in the area it is a must try! They close early so get there by lunch.

It's a small location but it packs a punch. The service was quick and the line didn't take too long to get through. The poke is quality and their poi is delicious. Dried aku is a favorite of mines and they have some of the best. Next time I'm gonna try their plates. I look forward to coming back!

While there are many options for poke in the Waikiki area, you would be making a mistake not to stop at Kahiau. Our family always makes it a point to stop at least once (or twice) when we're in the area. The poke is fresh and delicious, and the service is above and beyond. Please do yourself a favor and make a memorable poke experience by stopping at Kahiau.
