Joyce Shih Piano Studio

As a child, I would always giggle when I seen professional pianist play and their entire head would move up, down and side to side.  After taking lessons from Joyce for nearly a year, I now understand why.  Playing the piano is more than just hitting the correct notes, there's dynamics, pedaling, playing the bass line softer or a phrase softer, and most importantly, producing a clean sound by ensuring your fingers are completely off the key before playing the next key.  She is technical and will teach you or your child techniques that will allow you to progress quickly, assuming you practice everyday.  She also has recitals at her house with two beautiful grand pianos.

Dedicated and reputable piano teacher in the Hawaii Kai area for many years. She accepts new students without experience and takes on others wanting to further their studies. My son noticed that in such a short time his pieces have increased in difficulty in the short time he has been taking lessons. This is due to her persistence and patience. He also understands there is work and time in practicing that needs to be invested in order to improve. He is enjoying his pieces now and is excited about playing a duet with another student in preparation for a recital!

Ms. Shih is provides instruction at a level that is not common any more. Your keiki needs to have some level of attention and respect to get the most out of lessons.

Recently we moved here in Honolulu from mainland. And luckily we found Ms. Shih. My daughter has made a tremendous progress ever since she has been with Ms. Shin just for a short amount of time. Ms. Shih loves what she is doing, very patient with her students and meanwhile has a very high standard for her students. She not just teaching her students how to play piano, also she teaches them good habits from the beginning. She emphasizes technics to make her students achieve better results. We are very happy with Ms. Shih.

Joyce really stress on finguring and techniques and she sees the potential in kids. My daughter is 10 and has been with the studio for almost 5 years, she recently show cased at chapel service at school and got great compliments. My kids learned so much in such a little time. Ms.Shih is a wonderful person, who is gifted with love, passion and patience for her students, and for her art. We couldn't be happier. I would recommend her for every new learner, and for those who want to continue studying classic music.

My daughter began about 2 1/2 years ago with Joyce and we couldn't be happier with the results. Joyce is a wonderful teacher. She truly enjoys teaching which makes it a wonderful environment for the child. Joyce is highly skilled, talented, patient and encouraging. We know we found the right teacher through word of mouth. Her other older students play so beautifully, so we can see where we are headed. Joyce is also very well known in the musical community. She organizes many performance opportunities for her students to play at Hawaii Kai retirement homes (which absolutely delights the seniors) as well as progress recitals. She has depth and connections with her long musical background. She constantly shares opportunities for concerts, visiting artists, as well as other professionals in the industry. This exposure has enhanced my daughter's musical appreciation and enjoyment. I highly recommend Joyce Shih.
