I have been going to this place on and off for 20 years. Tbh I always going to level 1A. It's gentle and teacher are always very nice. Yes some people have been coming here a long time but it's ok, they will always try to help you. I tried other yoga but always coming back here. It's good stretching and for me it gets rids of my back, leg and foot pain.

I've walked along Koko Head Ave. countless times and missed the chance to practice at this Dance Center, until this summer. With more and more yoga studios popping up in Kaimuki, and platforms like yelp that allow you to drag the map with intention, you can find a gem even when it's elevated from view. This place can easily get missed as it's beyond foot traffic. Walk to the back of the building and two sets of chocolatey stairs lead up to this jewel. The instructors are wonderful! We started off with the 3-class pass (expires 30 days from purchase date) that allowed us to try a few different time slots and styles. It's a great deal as the drop in rate is $15 and taking advantage of this deal allows you to explore at $10 a class. We got to meet Ann-Marie, Katherine and Glenn and all instructors were so well endowed with knowledge of the anatomy, the practice as well as such gentle guides. On our second visit, a man walked by me and said, "What're you doing here? You're too young for Iyengar!" It was said playfully but I looked around the room and did notice a bit of an older crowd. But, please don't be mistaken, Iyengar yoga is good for anyone who is interested in developing their yoga practice, for anyone who sees yoga as more than "just a workout." A desire that can be found despite one's age. From my experience, yoga takes precision, sequence and proper alignment to fully benefit from the practice. Iyengar's use of props really helps with the above mentioned! If you haven't taken an Iyengar yoga class, I encourage you to visit this jewel. Poses you've probably done time and time again, are practiced with the use of props! You'll get to experience the common pose in a whole new light, and get to know yourself a little better, too. You may just get into some pretty precarious positions, like hanging upside down on a steel chair, but I haven't felt so safe stepping into the unknown. Like I shared, these instructors really know what they're doing to help you through each pose, even the seemingly uncomfortable. The thing about yoga is what you learn on the mat can help you move through precarious spaces even beyond. Step boldly with some foundational classes at Iyengar Silent Dance Center.

Silent Dance Center is the best yoga studio on Oahu, hands down. And even better its an Iyengar studio. There are two locations, one in Kaimuki and one in Mo'ili'ili on King close to UH. You can sign-up for a monthly membership and take as many classes as you want or you can take single classes. There are a huge variety of classes from level 1A-3, and they even teach pranayama (yogic breathing). Though all of the teachers are great, I love Evelia and Jim, especially for more beginning type yogis. For more advanced classes, I'd stick with Ae and Glenn . Personally, my favorite class is the Thursday morning Level II classes with Ae, a class that most of the teachers attend.

I'm not a yoga expert, but have been consistently attending classes at both SDC locations for a year now. I really enjoy yoga here because a) it is unpretentious -- no one cares if you just bought your clothes at Lulumon, b) they have all the props you could possibly need, and c) the instructors are great at pushing you to do all you can, and even further, with being cognizant that a beginner class is for beginners, etc.The locations are calming and both are an oasis in the middle of urban Honolulu. I always feel restored and recharged after a visit.

I LOVE the Silent Dance Center for a multitude of reasons some, of which, I will attempt to describe. First off, they are the oldest yoga studio on the island and probably one of the oldest in the US. Several of their teachers have been teaching for over 25 years! I like that they have two different locations to chose from and over 50 classes/week to offer. What I think I love the most about SDC is that they have 15 certified Iyengar instructors to choose from so it's so cool to learn different things from different teaching styles. One of the reviews below (Kara, one star) went to one of my least favorite teachers at the center who happens to be very popular and has a huge following. Everyone has different tastes in teaching and SDC offers so many options. SDC has all the props you need and they welcome all levels without a hint of yoga/gym/workout pretentiousness. The Iyengar style of yoga is known to be very attentive to safety and awareness. I love this place. I hope you'll check it out!

I love the Moilili SDC. The price is decent. You can either take one class for $10 or 4 classes in a month for $30, but there is also an unlimited option. There are several great instructors and times so you can pick your favorite or switch around. I also like Evelia. All the props and mats are provided, and in Iyengar yoga we use a lot of props. The studio has no frills, just a big breezy room (unless there are Kona winds) with wood floors and open windows. No harsh lighting, no air conditioner and no heat-just the way I like it. http://www.yogahawaii.com/

The Silent Dance Center (SDC) is an excellent yoga studio, with lots of very experienced, well trained teachers and a number of classes at two studios in Honolulu. Most of the teachers are Iyengar certified, meaning they have passed a rigorous training and testing process. They can teach you yoga correctly and safely, even if you are old and stiff (like me). If you are already an accomplished yogi, they will be able to challenge you and help you progress. They teach in the Iyengar tradition. (cut and paste the URL below to find out about the Iyengar method) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iyengar_YogaI've been going there for 27 years and it has been an important and cherished part of my life. Check 'em out.Aloha

The teachers here are excellent and deeply committed to teaching and practicing IYENGAR yoga. They really care about their students and nurture their yoga journey while also teaching them to avoid injury.I'm very grateful for 10 years of practice with these gifted teachers and the warm yoga community they've created.
