My boyfriend and I reserved the submarine scooter activity for our anniversary. It was such a neat experience, even those without strong swimming skills like me. The meeting location is located at Keahole St, behind the McDonalds. There are stairs you go down, and you meet up at the picnic tables near the boat. While boarding the boat, the crew offered us free snacks (chips) and water. It's important to stay hydrated since you will be going in the ocean. The crew took us to Koko Head, it was beautiful even though the skies were looking a little gloomy. They told us the ropes, and showed us the hand gestures we will be using while we are under water. While other groups are boarding the submarine scooters, the other groups that are waiting can snorkel around the boat. The snorkel gear are disinfected in a bin full of solution, and you rinse them with water in a bucket next the bin. Great sanitary measures! Unfortunately, the ocean currents were strong so it was pretty hard for me to navigate around without freaking out. This was my first time jumping into the middle of the ocean, let alone snorkeling, so I don't think it's ideal for a beginner. The water was also slightly cold since we went in the beginning of March, but the crew provided wetsuits. When it was my turn for the scooters, it was a little bit difficult for me to get into the bubble/bell helmet, but the crew member that helped me was very patient and guided me into the helmet. There will be a crew member with you at all times, including a professional scuba diver. They will guide you to the area and will push down your scooter about 10 feet below the water. You will have to equalize the pressure in your ears. Under the water, a crew member will come by and take photos of you/and your group together. They attached my scooter with my boyfriend's so we can have our photos taken. They will also attach a metal mesh bag with food to feed the fish! It was so cool having the fish swarm all over you. We even saw sea turtles! Coming back to the boat was easy, and dismounting the scooter is not difficult. A crew member will help you along the way. Once back onboard, you can towel off or continue to snorkel. Sadly it was too cold and the currents were too strong so no one wanted to snorkel at the end! But overall, it was such a neat experience and I highly recommend this activity to anyone that is visiting Oahu. The crew members were so patient, kind, and funny. They were awesome, so be sure to tip them well at the end of your activity!

Worth every penny! As soon as my boyfriend and I started booking activities in Oahu we immediately put this to the top of our list. I mean underwater submarine/scuba scooters?! How cool! We did the earlier morning session and had a fabulous time. I was worried about the water being too cold but it was fine! A few days prior, Island Water Sports sent clear directions on how to get to the boat and park our car. You wouldn't really suspect the boat to be where it is (behind some shops in a shopping center), but we had no troubles locating it. They also ask everyone to arrive 30 mins ahead of time so that they can check everyone in. Check in was smooth and we were given a colored wristband which they use to keep track of all the groups and the photos. Overall the boat had about 40 other guests on it in addition to all the staff. Everyone was SO nice and friendly. They went over all the safety measures on our way out to the main boat and told us what to expect. We drove out to see for about 5-10 mins and met up with their other boat which had all the equipment and remaining staff/divers. My boyfriend and I were actually the first 2 to go in for the day. At first I was nervous about getting my head in the helmet but it was extremely easy, essentially just had to swim under and pop back up. Once you're in the helmet you can breathe like normal and the diver starts taking you down. They placed me and my boyfriend next to each other underwater and we got to drive around our area freely. The scooters were actually surprisingly easy to drive and they put little bags of fish food on the front that the fish can't resist - so smart! The fish were so close that I got to touch them too. We also saw some sea turtles pass under us. The air pressure can fluctuate a little bit, but as long as you swallow/yawn like you would on a plane you'll be fine. I did feel like the scooter part went by too quick. It felt like we were only down there for 10 mins :( After we got back on the boat we had about an hour and a half to hang out. They provide snorkel gear if you wish to do that and they also have water & snacks :) Every party gets their photos and video taken too throughout the experience and you can purchase them after ($40 for just photos and $60 for photos+video). We got both! I highly recommend booking this activity if you are in Oahu!!

This place is awful! I told them the day before that my friend has gotten very sick on a different water sport and I asked them if they could refund us. My friend is a veteran they didn't care. They refused and would not even refund one of us told us to take Benadryl which she is allergic to. They basically kept $340 and we got nothing for it. Be very careful if you book with them and the owner the lady I booked won't is rude. They also have some scam in place where they override the TripAdvisor policies.

EPIC. That's the only word to describe this sub-scooter experience with Island Water Sports!! It was kind of hard to find, since there's no designated signs, but they are located close to the McDonalds behind the Queen's hospital (the smaller Queens Hospital, as there are two). After checking in, they give you clear instructions on what you're getting into. They make sure that you know that a diver will be with you at all times when you are under water and will guide you as well. They provide you with water and chips and they go about a mile out before you start diving.I was kind of nervous since I'm not a strong swimmer, but you don't even need to know how to swim to get on these scooters. You just hold your breath for 5 seconds, go inside the helmet and voila! The divers are young kids, but don't let that scare you, they're very experienced and know their stuff! They also take pics and vids of you while you're down there (for a price $40-$60) and on our trip we even saw a turtle!! (the place you're diving is actually a turtle feeding area!)We went 10 at a time, and when you're done (while the other batch goes) you can snorkel or just chill and tan on the boat (they have snorkeling gear, flippers and wetsuit tops available for you to use)Absolutely excellent service, we felt safe and we had so much fun. Mahalo!

I did the scooter experience and it was amazing!!! My traveling partner is a none swimmer and they were so encouraging and patient with her! I would say the whole boat was encouraging. They provide chips and water which was nice to snack on while waiting for your turn. You get about 20 minutes below which is more than enough time . My guide/diver was Hoku( I hope I'm not butchering his name too much) but he was amazing so nice and I felt super comfortable with him . He eased any worry I had and had a warm personable spirit. When doing something so scary that goes along way. I will recommend them over and over I had such a good time and incredible experience:)

This was a really amazing trip, and this is coming from somebody who doesn't really like the ocean or going underneath the surface, but being able to sit on your own little scooter in a dive helmet, and feed the fishes and see some sea turtles was actually really amazing, love it I would highly recommend it.
