A delightful cabinet of curiosities, Hound & Quail is a charming shop of carefully curated gifts, cards, art, stuffed animals, bugs in lucite and so much more. There is some serious attention to detail going on here and items in price points that will appeal to everyone. If you're interested in decor or gifts that run...shall we say...far left of center...then this is the place for you.

This review is for the private champagne tasting that took place here. When I first walked in, I was in awe of this unique and curious place. Everywhere you look there is something interesting to see. I especially enjoyed the antiques and the vintage portraits. The owners and staff were very nice and helped make the evening memorable. Liane led the champagne tasting and provided key details on the origin of champagne. We got to taste 7 different bottles. We were also served crostini, cheese, salami, chips, and the popular caviar spread. Ended the evening with chocolate covered strawberries and almond chocolates. I would love to come back and purchase some items that caught my eye. While speaking with some friends we saw a 1920's newspaper. I also saw honey in an enclosed glass case. If you are looking for a special antique shop come visit! Location is on nuuanu street, DT. Street parking or there is close garage parking nearby.

It's amazing that a place like this even exists on Oahu and I'm so glad that it's here, because I felt like I stepped into the old Bone Room when it was on Solano Avenue in Berkeley, California. The Bone Room sold many fine items, like Gothic Alchemy jewelry, bug specimens, home decor, minerals and rocks, antiques and incense; Hound and Quail has all that except the Gothic Alchemy jewelry and human/animal bones. They do have some taxidermy, antler horns and a hanging (fake) skeleton, which caught my eye and lured me into the store. As soon as you step into the store, you feel like I entered a portal into a past time where old Victrolas ruled, steam trunks were the "in" luggage, men's swim suits looked like women's, when skeleton keys actually worked, and when people had to actually write letters and wait for a reply! If I were on Instagram, I'd tag this store with the following words: magical, curated goods, historical goods, household decor, old, antique, men's, taxidermy, leather, man cave. I actually did not want to leave. I wanted to stay there all day, and even possibly the next day and maybe the day after that. One of the owners, Mark, was super nice and attentive and genuinely happy that I was enjoying their taste in curated goods. It's pretty epic, you gotta go check it out yourself!I parked in the Chinatown Municipal Parking on Bethel Street and it was pretty cheap at 50 cents an hour on a Saturday.

In the heart of Chinatown or the International District depending on your perspective, this one-of-a-kind hole in the wall is definitely worth a stop. I was waiting for my Dim Sum takeout order, see my review for Mei Sum Dim Sum, and I stopped by, intrigued by the items in the window. This is one of the most interesting assortments of items old and new I've seen locally. I picked up some unpolished gems and crystals and a few sterling silver religious necklaces. Everything was inexpensive and they'll make great gifts. I had a few questions and as it wasn't too busy the store owner looked up several items for me, the writing wasn't in English and we found translations. I appreciate this kind of personal service and I'll be back. It's a bit like Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe on the waterfront in downtown Seattle. I can't wait to see what is there next time?

Cool stuff! So many antique things to look at and buy. You can easily spend a great time just looking through all the different things like: old cameras, old photos, frames, military badges and more. If you love and appreciate things of the past, then you'll definitely enjoy browsing around. They even have a separate shelf of classic literature that you can read or just admire.

I went downtown Tuesday to look for things for my unkos birthday! He loves old things and we joke cause he is old. The prices were pretty high but a few things are reasonable. Th young guy working was busy helping another lady in Japanese which I thought was cool but then he saw me and helped me find things in my budget. Lots of old haoles treat it like a museum, gotta buy things! If I make more money I'd buy more.Thank you

The store is cool, the dude working - not so much. I was going to purchase some bugs and didn't because that dude sort of sucked. It seemed like we were a bother coming into the store.

I've been to quite a few antique stores in my 23 years of life. This is by far my favorite. It's aesthetic. It's pleasing. It's all of the good qualities you would like in an antique store. The collection is perfectly curated & matched with the most reasonable prices. If you're ever looking to "shop old decor," this is the place. Or simply stop in & just enjoy the atmosphere & have a nice browse. You won't regret it.
