Honolulu Music Lessons Workshop

I found this music school during a google search when I was looking to start taking guitar seriously. I had been playing casually (not very well) self taught for years until I signed up for lessons with Hans Fahling. I was blown away by Hans's teaching method as he was able to tailor lessons to my goal of being able to finally sing and play guitar at the same time. He is an incredible teacher and though I am taking a brief haitus due to career demands I look forward to resuming lessons as soon as possible and cannot recommend his lessons enough. I improved drastically at guitar with Hans's instruction. Hans incorporates theory and form exercise in his lessons while balancing those core concepts with playing along to songs that you are interested in learning to keep learners engaged. Worth every penny. Mahalo Hans!

So far so good! Actually, better than good . . . great!My older twin daughter has been taking drum lessons with Scott Shafer for the past few months and she's loving it!The owner (Landon???) responded to our inquiry for drum lessons the same day and got us in touch with Scott right away. We were immediately provided with options for lesson days and times and literally set up her first lesson for the next day. She's been going weekly ever since and has shown no signs of wanting to stop.I like how I can pay per lesson/week to week to gauge her continued enthusiasm and interest. When my other daughter took violin lessons (at another music school), we had to pay for a whole session (8 or so lessons). So when she decided violin wasn't for her, she was forced to stick it out for the remainder of the lessons we already paid for.Honolulu Music Lessons Workshop also offers lessons for voice, guitar, ukulele, bass, piano, violin, viola, cello, bass, etc. Conveniently located at the Varsity Building on University Ave. Lots of parking.

Our daughter's flute instructor was very patient, knowledgeable, and friendly. She learned new techniques and tips that helped her at school.

The owner was responsive and listened to my concerns. He offered a refund along with other options, which is professional and it made me reevaluate my experience. I wish it would have worked out.

The only music school I could find for my daughter. Mel Kay worked with my daughter who's a very energetic child and yet quite shy. Signed up for 4 sessions and despite our crazy coparenting schedule my daughter enjoyed her time with Mel. She allowed my daughter to be herself and grew her confidence. Each lesson she walked away with something new that boosted her self esteem to sing more even if it's car-karaoke. Thank you for making her experience an unforgettable time.

We've been taking lessons with Hans for a few months now and he's been above and beyond our expectations. Although he's been teaching for many years, he comes to every lesson with a ton of energy, excitement, and expertise. I've tried teaching myself online and other online classes, but in person lessons with Hans has really thrusted my guitar development forward. He's got a very clear and comprehensive curriculum / philosophy, and takes time to walk you through a good balance of music theory, technical exercises as well as learning pieces that keeps you engaged. He's able to break down musical concepts into digestible chunks while keeping you challenged and pushing you a bit forward every lesson. He's been able to tailor the lesson to our current level and provides granular feedback when necessary. I feel like I'm in good hands.

Update 5/5/23: Landon is a consistently GREAT music instructor. Son has been going here for years. We're happy with the instruction and progress. Landon has a good set up, helpful too. Son has moved on from acoustic to electric. Landon helped son set up (plug in) amp, describe/adjust controls... and we're off to electric guitar music! Mahalo Landon for helping us enjoy this ride!!!

I had a great experience in 2023 with lessons with Mel Kay. She was an excellent voice teacher and also very encouraging and sensitive to my needs. She was one of the most kind teachers I've ever had, and very professional. I also took piano lessons with Brian and he was awesome as well!!

My son has been taking piano lessons from Mel for about 9 months now. He always enjoys his time with her and I've seen a good amount of growth since he began (even with our infrequent practice at home lol). Mel is always kind, patient and flexible with our family. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking to learn the piano!

Mel was TOP-TIER! highly recommend to anyone wanting to learn how to sing or about the art of music in general!
